Editor’s note: Michelle Faul, the AP’s chief of African news says that Meles Zenawi and his entire gang are among those considered possible targets of the court for war crimes and crimes against humanity they are perpetrating in Ethiopia.
Joe Michael (6 March 2009) Ethiopian leaders are screaming loud at ICC against the recent warrant it issued to the Sudan leader. They alleged that the warrant would destabilize peace in Sudan. The truth is - they don’t care about Sudan at all. They are against the warrant because they are worried about themselves knowing that they are next.
Al Bashir has committed serious crimes in Darfur. More than 300,000 people have been killed; human beings were cut into pieces and burned alive; thousands of young women have been raped; millions of houses have been burned and the people were forced to leave, etc. The ICC has more than enough evidence that can attest the direct involvement of Al Bashir in these crimes. Legally, Al Bashir was supposed to be arrested and brought to justice long time ago.
Billions of people around the world condemned Al Bashir’s atrocities. The free world appealed to the United Nation through uncountable petitions and protests. Even as we speak, Darfur remains to be one of the dangerous places on earth for human beings. People are still dying, woman are getting raped. However, slowly, but surely, justice to those millions of Darfur victims is around the corner.
In light of such clear crime and atrocities in Darfur, the Ethiopian government, a government that has been committing similar crimes against its people became the first government to condemn Al Bashir’s arrest warrant. The condemnation is not a surprise either to the international community or to the Ethiopians who have been victimized by their government. Naturally, criminals never want to see other criminals brought to justice.
Since the EPRDF government took power in 1991, thousands of Ethiopians have been killed, arrested and tortured because they opposed the government. The government has also been engaged in several domestic and regional wars and committed serious war crimes. They burned villages, raped women, and murdered innocent civilians. Several political prisoners, including the main opposition party leader are still in jail in solitary confinements.
The shameless Ethiopian leaders have no motive for peace what so ever when they rejected Al Bashir’s arrest warrant. They are only trying to circumvent their own arrest warrants. What they should know, however, is regardless of what is going to happen to Al Bashir, they too are evidently criminals and justice will hunt them down.

The ethnofascist Meles Zenawi will have to have his days in court either in Ethiopia or at the Hague. The heinous crimes of Meles Zenawi should be well documented and secured for this purpose. Ethiopians with the needed expertise and resources should concentrate on collecting and documenting the atrocious crimes of Meles Zenawi and his TPLF thugs.
The removal of fascism (the ethnic dictatorship of Meles Zenawi) from Ethiopia should receive the top priority it desreves and all Ethiopians should unite for this grand objective. The supporters and followers of fascism must be aware of the fact that they can not escape from justice when the right time comes. Now is the time for them to abandon the camp of fascism and join the popular anti-fascist struggle of Ethiopians.

The number of the victims of the weyannes could be in millions including the ones liquidated in the bushes. Meles Zenawi has created a good machine for killing and liquidating his political opponents, Amharas (those he refers to as chauvinists) and others standing for and defending their Ethiopian identity. His army, police and security are trained, financed and equipped by the west who are also accomplices in his crimes against humanity. Meles Zenawi knows that he will face justice sooner or later and true Ethiopians will not give up their struggle for justice. In the advent of losing his absolute power in Ethiopia, Zenawi and his followers would opte for secession to avoid justice. They believe that the chaos they cause in Ethiopia would enable them to avoid justice and punishment for their crimes. True Ethiopians must organize themselves in all ways including forming Ethiopian armed groups or paramilitary to counter and foil the evil plans of Meles Zenawi. The west would support all the plans of Meles Zenawi including his final and desperate one of disintegrating Ethiopia. Ethiopians need to learn a lot from the fate of the former Yugoslavia which was organized along Ethnic lines and have disintegrated with the blessing and support of the west. The recent secession of Kosovo from Serbia has been the work of the west. Kosovo is a small territory which can not be a viable state and is still under the administration of the European Union. The west promoted and supported the secession of Kosovo because they wanted to punish and weaken the mainly Orthodox Serbia. Serbia is the European equivalent of Amhara whom the west consider as hostile and non-friendly. The Serbs fought against Nazism and are known for their heroic resistance through out.
The west have been regarding the Amharas and the Orthodox church as opponents and obstacles and support any force which attacks, kills and marginalizes them. I have not seen any western report condemning the Bedeno and Arbagugu massacres in any western media or reports dealing with human rights. This crime against humanity was committed by the forces supported and financed by the west, including the TPLF. So the west have turned a blind eye to it and whitewashed their regime in Ethiopia. Meles Zenawi as an ethno-fascist, will have to account for all these crimes when the right time comes.

The arrest of zenawi could happen only if the international community is carrying about human rights violation and justice. But this is not the case. They know that Zenawi is their servant even if a butcher. They care about their well being and benefit. Legesse will be arrested only if he is not in conformity with them not because he is continued to do what he has been doing. We have clearly seen that the Western countries even could help the dictators as long as they are there to serve their mission. So to me its less likely that Zenawi would be arrested at least under the existing circumstances.

Meles Zenawi and his TPLG thugs have every reason to fear and worry about. Meles Zenawi has been killing and destroying Ethiopian lives since his days in the Bush. He has the blood of the innocent on his hands and is responsible for the current crisis and predicament in Ethiopia. He has obtained around 40 billion dollars from the west in the form of aid and loan but corruption, famine and poverty have become rampant in the country. One can not enumerate the heinous crimes of Meles Zenawi but the documented massacres in Arba gugu, Bedeno, Gambella and Sidama constitute sufficient evidences to indict him for genocide. His reference to the Rwandan genocide is a wake up call for all Ethiopians since it shows his main intention in case he loses power in Ethiopia. Meles Zenawi is a neo-fascist and vengeful person who can unleash his genocidal forces at any time if his power is threatened. He knows he has little or no support base in Ethiopia and his last resort will be genocide and the destruction. In his final days facing defeat, Adolf Hitler was planning to exterminate the Germans themselves who he was proud of. Similarly, Meles Zenawi will not hesitate to exetrminate his own blind ethnic followers when faced with defeat and loss of power. Like Hitler, Meles Zenawi has openly expressed his pride in being born to his golden ethnic group. In their drive to ascertain their superiority, he and his ethnic followers are belittling the decisive role of other Ethiopians in defeating the Italian colonial forces at Adwa. They are unashamedly claiming that their ethnic group is the sole owner of this victory. This reminds me
of Meles Zenawi official statements in which he said that the Obelisk of Axum is nothing to the people of the south.
Now Ethiopian must leave Meles Zenawi and his ethnic followers to fight their EPLF rivals alone and solely claim the victory. Ethiopians should no more longer be used as cannonfodders in this conflict.

I can see many unfounded optimisim on the next move of ICC. It is clear for all Ethiopians how heinous were the crimes committed by Woyane and its accomplices. But the same can not be said of ICC and the West. Please, don’t see the verdict of ICC on Al Bashir as an act of doing justice, it is more of political and other vested interests. However, it will be wise to organise legally acceptable evidence on all the atrocities committed by Woyane since its ascent to power in Ethiopian politics. Let’s first make the evidences speak for themselves and put to test ICC and the Western society. But, in the end the fate of Ethiopia and the destiny of Ethiopians is in the hands of Ethiopians themselves. Never let that belief out of your mind.

ICC will not arrest no one from ethiopia or Eritrea since there is no interest(OIL) in Ethiopia. Beside, had that been the case ICC should start from Washington dc parking lot arresting those mengestu`s Amara generals who mass genocided millions of Oromos,Tigreans and Eritreans.

I think the most important issue should be whether we should wait until some kind of miraculous force drives Meles Zenawi and his TPLF thugs out of Ethiopia. There is no doubt that these guys are committing egregious crimes in Ethiopia and Somalia. Despite our verbal accusation and attacks, Meles Zenawi is still in power committing more crimes and damaging the interest and sovereignty of Ethiopia. I was wondering to see some Ethiopians celebrating the victory of Adwa and forgetting the neo-colonial rule imposed on the country using Meles Zenawi and his thugs. Celebrating the past victory is not enough. We should renew our commitments to remove the criminal TPLF gang from power and bring them to justice. I think they would face the wrath of the public before they face justice. We should not forgive them for the massacres they have committed in Gambella, Hadiya and Sidama. Their western masters and financiers should also be made to accout for their complicity in the crimes against humanity.

While this idea of bringing the TPLF leader to ICC should have been initiated by Ethiopian lawyers themselves about five years ago, it takes a long time for the same fate to happen with Prime Minister Meles.
Abugidainfo labled TPLF as invader for the first time, while the political reality in which Ethiomedia, Abugidainfo, ETN, etc. help create/promote can be described in terms of about five political models as I have stipulated before.
UDJP, conceived in prison, born in during the K-5 tour with the help of KIL-6, went back home and formed a party UDJP, which was fanned and promoted by the same media above. UDJP at first merged with dissident Kinijit members who joined the parliament against the wish of its constituents to work in collaboration with TPLF/eprdf. It materialized its initial agenda of forming a coalition with loyalist opposition parties, and the likes of Seye Abraha, Negasso Gidada and Gebru Asrat of Tigrai Harena, now Chairman of the Coalition/Medrek/Hibret? This coalition with Gebru Asrat of Tirai Harena, as a chairman puts the loyalist opposition parties, and UDJP the former dissident of Kinijit as teletafi parties of Tigrai Harena, the other side of the same coin with TPLF. What is Abugidainfo going to call this conglomerate of loyalist politicians and lame duck parliamentarians, and UDJP whose moto according to their press relase is “No change but durable democracy”, in a country where the theme is economic development before democracy in the style of East Asia.
Ethiopia is now at a cross road between now and 2010. It is not time to speculate on what is going to happen to Prime Meles Zenawi, it is not time to engage in some philosophical discussin on how to wire the Ethiopians in the diaspora with only one party in mind , nor to be side tracked in some side tracked essay whose topic sentence does not match its conclusion or to speek of humanity when we have to talk about Ethiopiawinet before ethnicity and coalece of common and major goals and the strategies to achieve them. The diaspora also need to openly discuss and scrutinize the leaders of the other four, meaning that current regime has already been exposed and having the UDJP in the last three years and lately the coalition as a buffer and an alternative replacement by UDJP and diaspora supporters and media.
The political issues in contention between the moderates and the hardliners, not in terms of democracy, but in terms of freedom with UDJP/coalition, sitting in between TPLF’s stand on scessionism and ethnic fedralism and the hardliners calling for one Ethiopia, one flag, one nation with equality and freedom (economic, political) for all Ethiopians engaged in class struggle in terms of land reform and ownership with the government, and in terms work relations between employee and employers, and ruled by the consent of the governed with the transfer of power through free and fair election at the ballot box. And this ultimatum to be achieved through the peaceful struggle, not by armed struggle.

What I want to add is in my view Melese is as foreign agent. TPLF as organization was the instrument implementing neocolonizers policy under their right-hand man, Meles. But people in TPLF itself are some of them Marxist oriented, some of them fanatic orthodox believers. # 1 priority for Melese/his handlers is creating animosity between Tigreans and Amharas who have been the back bone of Ethiopian history. By doing so, the two mortal enemies to the West can be neutralized. TPLF under Melese leadership destroyed effectively the bridge (Amharas) that connects Tigreans with the South.
At the end of the day (on the eve of Ethiopian disintegration), Melese will run to the West. The blind followers (the Marxists and fanatic Orthodox believers) will burn by the hell they created. You are preoccuppied in less important factors than riddding that country of tyranny and human rights abuse. The one important factor all political parties have to understand is that certain aspects of Ethiopian political dynamics have changed for good in Ethiopia. Out of malice to instill inter-ethnic animosity, woyane inadvertenly has introduced something interesting, such as allowing the promotion of local languages and some form of self governance. Agree with or not is a matter debates for generations to come. However, even the slightest attempt to strip it away from the people is impossible. What we should be discussing is how we are going to keep Ethiopia united and strong while individual ethnic groups continue to govern themselves. Some of you go bannanas when you hear the word Oromo, or Somali, etc. These are Ethiopians with a different view of what Ethiopia should look like. If we are not willing to listen to the more than 80% of Ethiopians’ view, we are talking about dominating others. Tigres are minorities in Ethiopia. So are Amharas. How are we going to build a democracy by suppressing the majority?

Some of you tolerate a murder of an individual. Why? Meles Zenawi has murdered many people, in cold-blood. In 1997 about 200 innocent civilians were executed by Zenawi’s direc order. The people demanded for fair election. What they got as answer was death by being shot. Some were executed in front of their families.
Mr. Zenawi should commit no crime whatsoever because he head of the country. No head of a state in Europe will be allowed to rule if he has murdered a single person. No person in US will be allowed to be a president if he had murdered a person or was implicated in such a crime. Even in countries like Iran, South africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, Morroco, Tunsia, Israel, Japan etc no head of state has a history of homocide (murdered or killed a human being).
Meles Zenawi is worse than a common criminal. If the common man spends his life for murdering one person, why should Meles zenawi go free for murdering more than 200 unarmed and innocent citzizens? Meles Zenawi orderd the shoting of citizens in Addis Abeba in 1993 and also in 1997.
The ICC should bring Meles Zenawi to justice for ordering the murder of more than 200 unarmed citizens. Otherwise the ICC is acting only for political domination of Sudan. Meles Zenawi has also collaborated with Al Bashir. The same could be said about Issayas Afewerki.
The ICC is acting to bring justice. It is not a colonial force. This has nothing to do with colonialism. For ethiopians and sudanese colonialism seems much better than the regime of Meles Zenawi, Issayas Afwerki and al-Bashir.

Meles Zenawi and co cannot be put on the same foot as Al-Bashir and co. Even compared to Isayas, Meles and co. seem to be less criminal. But why should we tolerate Meles Zenawi and co. for their executions in Addis and elsewhere? If we compare the prsent regime with Mengistu’s, we see much improvement. But still the present group of leaders shoots at citizens, harrasses fellow citizens and above all attaches itself to power permanently. There is no public participation and there is no trust to the public, as is demonstrated in the cesnsus of the ethopian population, where the Amhare are 3000000 people less. The fact is such dishonesty will make all other groups mistrust the government. If the moslems say that they make 90% of the population, why should we not believe the moslems for such statements - after all the government of Meles Zenawi is lying as to the nexact number of the population of the Amahara language community in Ethiopia? There is some news leaking from Addis that the deputy prime minister Mr. Addisu Legesse is under house arrest for opposing the misrepresentation of the actual census of the Amhara people.
The point is we should be able to trust each other and we should be able to have leaders who comit no crimes. Meles Zenawi and co. should resign immediately and give power to persons, who would rule this country with honesty and justice. Zenawi and co can not make things right any more. Development can not be realized if the population is being harassed and killed. Human Rights should be observed. This is simply making the people feel that they can say what they find right and for that they should not expect suppression and harrssment.
Why is so difficult for Zenawi to govern the people in harmony? The ethiopian people do not mind who rules. Zenawi is not opposed because he has unpopular policies. If the ethiopian public is happy with the policies the government promuglates and practises, the people will defend the government against any invasion or any internal uprising.

Addendum: Based on the existing political models, the analysis of diaspora supporters lends itself to clasification system rather a narratives presented by Pof. Alemayehu, Gobena Gudina. In line with the political models, there are the politicians in the inner circle, the security forces, the police forces, the judiciary and the clergy and their die hard supporters at home and in the diaspora. The supporters for UDJP and now the coalition are derived from the TPLF supporters seeking the better of two similar alternatives, those implicated with the current regime seeking to maintain the status quo, those implicated with self-interest with the current regime, and those taken away with personalities rather than substance and the core politicical circles, with mehal sephari and /or the unawares left in limbo. Lining up with the hard liners are all those remaining silent majority, that were evident in the 2005 election.
Basically, all the individuals in the above mentioned catagories owe their training on the back of the tax payers of the rural poulations of Ethiopia, not any one political party. Therfore, they need to align themselves with a party that aspires to keep Ethiopia as one organic entity, one of the greatest nation in africa and beacon for democracy and harmony among ethnic groups as a mosaic of many cultures in africa an equal but not subordinate and dependent partner with democratic and non-democratic nations.

Those dictators/tyrants particularly in Africa have to face the consequences for turning the fertile soil of Mama Africa/Ethiopia into mass grave. Do not forget this is the first time in our oromos history we oromos see an oromo president, this is the first time we oromos see colleges and universities built in our oromo region. This is the first tinme we oromos allowed to adminster our own region with total freedom through federal system.
In the past the Amhara dominated governemnts used to enslave and oppressed oromos , and the Amhara kings used to steal our oromos land and give to their own amhara tribe. There was not single college or university in oromo region during amhar era, all university and cooleges were discrminatively given to amhara region only to advance amhara mono tribal agenda.
The next step is to democratize ethiopias national language from Amhara minority language (Amharic) to ethipias Majority (Afaan oromoffiaa).

Yes, Zenawi has been in a panic mode all of his adult life, in fact niether he nor his accomplices in crime have a normal state of mind. Remember the confession of the nurse from South Africa who treated Berket for acute psychosis and anxiety disorder he suffers for ordering the killing of people for no apparent reason. There is no other person in Ethiopia whom I know who is deprived of his personal freedom than Zenawi, because of the fact he has commited such horendous crimes aginist his fellow citizens, comrades, and even personal friends to name few Seye, Tamerat, Hayelom etc…. through out his life. He has no friend, except paid people who will abandon him the moment he is indicted. He is so foolish, he chose to leave a vedio evedince of advance confession to the outrageous crimes he is going to commit on prime time on ETV while the world attenation was focused on Ethiopia. In a breach of his own constitution he single handedly declared martial law and threatened to cut the fingers of people who support Kinjit for flashiing the V signs. In the same speech he also told us that he has special force is waiting for his command to enter Addis to crash protestors and also the fact they were under his direct command. It is an open secret to everyone as to what has been accomplished by this ruthless force a member of which were only trained to kill people in cold blood. What is more interesting is the commission he handpicked to look into the post election violence and whitewash his crime, in spite of the persistence intimidation and threats, found his force guilty of using excessive force. Although the commission was only mandated by the rubber stamp parliament to look into the facts and come up with one type conclusion i.e. yes or no for question whether an excessive force was used. It didn’t limit its work at that, but in most unprecedented way it has documented in depth the details of the sequence of events and circumstances which led to the killing of 193 Ethiopians who lost their life in those dark times in the history of our country at the hand of the merciless force. For anyone who reads the report of the commission, it is crystal clear the killings were unprovoked, premeditated and the intent to kill in a brutal and random way was part of the design not unintended consequenses of the unfolding events. In fact the commison depected in writing that the initial riot might has been instigated by the ruthless dictator himself. Logically concluding, one can take these acts violence and extrapolate that to all other similar killings which took place across Ethiopia and across time. One only needs to read Tesfaye Gebreab’s book to learn the criminal behavior of these people. In a chapter called how Ato Derara was killed he wrote a confession of one of the members of the committee who picked Ato Deraa for killing. I was utterly devastated and depressed to learn how casual and random they were in picking up their victim. Someone here tells us a person with so much blood in hand is going to be a Secretary General of the UN. My advice to you is to go back to the planet where you have lived to this day where butchers can become a leader of the palnet, you should know by now the world has become less tolerant to people like your masters. For your masters there is no place to hide, he and his accomplices will be prosecuted no matter where they are and they know that very well. Otherwise they wouldn’t have opposed the arrest warrant of Al bashir with their hand and teeth.

Oromos were better off under Mengistu and under Haile Selassie. Alamaya University has always been in Oromo region. Under Mengistu Oromos had more priveleges. The war industry was under the control of the galant Oromos.
Tigres are colonial masters of Oromo region now. Even the head of Oromo region is a Tigre. Please stop insulting the intellegence of Oromos. The Tigres have allienated and isolated the Oromos by introducing the latin script instead of the ethiopic script, whcih makes for Oromos to have equal opportunities with Amharic speaking ethiopians.
Teferi Banti was the president of Ethiopia under the military regime. Under haile Sealssie, many Oromos had high offices. No Oromo starved to death under Haile Selassie and Mengistu. Now the Oromos are begiing for food. In general, Oromos are being cheated by the Tigre minority governmen. Infact the Tigres mistrust the Oromos and are harrassing them. The Tigres favour the smaller minorities like Gambella, Sidama , Adere etc

Even our oromos language been outcasted and banned within our own regions, in the mean time we oromos were forced to adopt and speak in amharas minority language, even though our oromos language represent and happen to be Ethiopias majority language.

Slumking! The talking points are the radicalization and ethinsization of the ethiopian society by TPLF and EPLF, as means of divide and rule as well as disintegration of Ethiopia. I do not blame you for a minute for standing your ground either as ardent supporter of TPLF, TPLF supporter looking for the alternative UDJP/Coalition of Gebru Asrat of Tgrai Harena as a chairman of the coalition. As far far as coming with rational thought with respect to understanding the crises Ethiopia is than any time before I give you zero mark. I am only presenting the major political factions and the catagories of diaspora that are lined up behind them as talking points, so that people will talk about the major causes to Ethiopian crises. It is not a question of asking for more political space as political space is not quantitave, is a question of economic and political freedom of all Ethiopians from the current regime. I am an Oromo and know what happened. Haile Selassie was good for Oromos. He was from Oromo. Tilahun Gesesses used to sing in Oromo. Kotu Oromos wer most wellcome in Addis for their beautiful dance and songs.
The Emperor wanted to build a unitary and was forcing us all to speak Amharic language , which was right. But Haile Selassie did not bring the economic reform and the land reform necessary to strengthen the unitary state. Under Haile Selassie more Oromos had ministerial posts than Tigres and Eretras.
TOla! You are not ethiopian. You are Shabya agent, trying to disrupt ethiopian discussion. The Oromos are very much aware of the racism of the italian colonialzed dogs from Aretera. I do not support the idea that ethiopian leaders being picked by ICC. Meles and co. will have to be dealt with by a national court. I am soory for Al Bashir too. But I am not a sudanese and the genocide or homicide in Darfur should have to be dealt with by ICC or by a sudanese national court.
As an ethiopian nationalist, I would not allow an european to pass any judgement on an ethiopian leader. Meles, Mengistu etc will have to be judged only by ethiopians and in ethiopian courts. The ICC is more political and is economically motivated. The Yugoslavanians were manipulated by Germany. Mulosovich, was an orthodox christian and from Serbia. Many other serbian nationalists were manipulated and revenged by the nazis in the German government. Serbia is known to have done great damage to Hitler and his nazi army. We have to be careful here.
I am personally sorry for what happened in Darfur and have reaacted emotionally to the news that Al-Bashir is to be brought to justice. Maybe Al Bashir was manipulated by CIA to commit such crimes as Saddam Hussein was misled and misinformed to wage war on Kuwait. ??????

Should Amharas return oromos stolen land, after all Showa province included FINFINE/ADddis Abeba is belong to oromos not Amharas, but Amharas still colonizing this oromos land. The land was stolen by the Amhara king (Menelike) and Haileselassie.
I am sure if Amharas return these stolen land to its original owner , OLF maight be forgiving.

Who died and made you the “decider?” What percentage of the Ethiopian people do you represent to dictate what our future should be? Ethiopia is a nation of numerous ethnic groups with a few major ones with major questions. I will ask you for evidence and I will expect a genuine answer from you, just for the sake of the discussion here. If Ethnic federalism is so undesirable by most Ethiopians, give me one example of resistance to such idea from any of the major ethnic groups except the Amharas. Show me one Oromo organization that has denounced it. Show me one ethnic group that has opposed the idea of self governance. The answer to my own questions is you don’t have one iota of evidence that ethnic self governance is rejected by non Amhara ethiopians anywhere in Ethiopia. That only leads us to an obvious conclusion, that is it is the Amharas who are trying to tell everybody that self governance is bad to them. As a matter of fact, in recent days, the tendency of Ethno centeric Amharas and EPRP agents is to spend a whole lot of time talking about re dominating the ethnic groups than on how to bring democracy to Ethiopia. The rest of us progressive Ethiopians will work on democratizing the nation without imposing anything or taking away the right to self govern. If you believe that Oromos will give up writing in their own language, you are wrong. If you believe Gurages will accept to be told they are inferior because they worked harder than everyone else, you are to a rude awakening. Nor will the Somalis accept to be treated the way they had been treated(as foreigners in their own country) for years. We have a lot of work to do to keep Ethiopia as a nation. One of them is to make people like you understand how complex the realities of Ethiopia are. Ethiopia can not be a united strong country just because some guys called Kassa and Belachew from Gonder wanted her to be. Some guys called Gemeda or Hassan from somewhere in Oromia or somalia region have to agree. Until you and your ilks understand these basics, no shit will go down the way it should.

Specially, don’t talk about the Guraghe’s, the Kambata’s , the Hadiya’s, the Wolayita’s and other group who are suffering the brunt of ethinicism whereever they are living. Many of you who are crying about Amharan domination are just jealous that your ethnic group had not been in such a position before. You are suffering from chronic inferiority complex. Frankly, I blame the previous governments of Ethiopia if they are the cause of this self-degrading and cynic behaviour we are observing in the most outspoken, so called ‘non-Amhara groups´. We can look at Woyanne, they from the start were disgruntled on the fact that they have not been in power. They were deluded with the unfounded legend of being descended from the Axumites. We have also seen the reality now, they formed a Tigre-dominated government that is most ethinic centered and corrupted government which is usurping it power in unforseen magnitude. What woyane gave for the like of you is the right to insult and supposedely degrade Amhara’s. The likes of you are just happy about that, Woyane is smart. The present federalism introduced by Woyane is not working, Ethiopians are still living together by the cohesion that has been built in the past. Presently there are first and second grade citizenship in almost every part of the country depending on where you are and from which ethinic group you are coming. If you are realy interested about democracy and unity in Ethiopia, you must start thinking about an alternative. Simply consider the democracy in other countries with diverse ethnic and cultural groups such as India, South Africa, Switzerland, etc.

I am mixed. I have Oromo, Afar, Tigre, Amhara and Gurage blood running in my veins.
During Haile Selassie, the Oromos were dancing and well respected in addis. Haile Selassie’s mother is from Oromo through her father. Haile Selassie is also from Tigray through one of his grandfathers. He was mixed (Gurage, Amhara, Gurage, Tigray etc)
Haile Selassie forced all of us to study and speak in Amharic. This is in the interest of Ethiopia as such. Haile Seallssie’s aim was to create a unitary state with one common language and one religion. The official language was Amharic and the official religion was the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Haile Sealssie was preparing Ethiopia to confront european colonialism in Africa, which payed off. But the slow economic reforms backfired on Haile Selassie’s regime. He should have built more factories, more schools, more universities and should have won the young generation on his side.
There might have been some limitation on Oromo language radio programs during Haile Selassie’s reign. But there was some Oromo music every where. Tilahun Gessesse sang in Oromo language. Ethiopia’s first album release contains a song from the Sidama region. I mean Ethiopia was not that bad for ethnies. Of course Amharic language and culture was dominant then.

I always wonder when do TPLFites stop trying to foam hatred among the Amharas and the Oromos. They should understand by now it is not going to work out. The events of the last 4 years have completely left them politically naked, everyone has instinct to sniff them a like a trained dog. Last week I have done an experiment with group of Ethiopian friends asked them to read and point out comments on one of the articles made by TPLF paid cadres, four of us picked the same comments by the same people who posed as amhara and commented against ormo and the other way round. The fifth friend of mine has picked more than we had on the list but picked everyone of what have picked. I guess we all had to go throuhg all these nasty pahses to reach this level understanding about the nature of TPLF and see them for what they are. My simple message to them is Ethiopians are uniting, your time is up. When the moment comes you will crumble like a house of cards.

Ethinic federalism is imposed on the ethiopian people. It is a neocolonialist conspiracy, which has been practised by Mussolini;s representatives. Ethiopia has been a unitary state for the last 3000 years of recorded history. The ethiopian state has been ruled by kings and queen coming from all ethnies. all kings and queens were mixed.
The issue is that of principles. If we have one common language and script, we can produce more, we can develop more. Our elites can work all over Ethiopia and will not limited to their local areas. It willl be easier for us as one nation to defend our country if we all communicate in one language. The Oromos do not want ethnic federalism. The Gurages did not want ethnic federalism and the Sidamas do not want ethinic fedralism because it is alienating them from their mainstream culture.
We have to be able to build one national ethiopian bourgoeis- One large ethiopian middle class of say 10 million people. We have to create the precondition for our people to mix with each other. This we can do if all live as one nation, speaking the same language and eating the same food and singing the same song. We have to identify ourselves with One Motherland. In a democratic unitary state, we have everything we need. Haile Selassie and Mengistu were unitary, but not democratic. The present regime is ethno-centred, but not democratic.I should say the prsent regime has made us be aware of our ethnies. But the way they are trying to solve the problem is against the strategic interest of all ethnies.
Elites from Amhara, Tigray, Afar, Somalia, Oromo, Gambella, Sidama etc stand for a unitary state because it gives the population more security and creates more wealth.
Equality and Unity to all ethnies in Ethiopia can be realized. In the past the ruling elites were insulting Gurages, Tigres, Afars, Oromos. This should be punishable if a group or an indiviual stands against the political and cultural or economic interests of an ethnie.

2. Gonder: many persons killed near Adebabai Iyesus church: their crime was listening to Abba Amha Iyesus whose preaching was not ‘nice’ to Melles and Co.
3. Awassa: many farmers killed when they demonstrated against a proposal to move the capital of Sidama Zone from Awassa
4. Addis Ababa, Bahrdar and other cities: 100s killed after the 2005 elections
5. Sveral places in Ormoia region: many students and other citiziens killed and arbitrarirly arrested because “they are supporters of OLF!!”
6. Dhedessa, Birr Sheleqo, Denqoro Washa, etc.: 10,000s put in these concentration camps under the most inhuman conditions. Many have died of disease and possibly eaten by wild animals!

It is not enough to say that ethiopia has been a unitary state for so many years because it hides the explicit and implicit oppression of many ethiopians by the elite and their supporters. The fact that many ethiopian ethnic groups were made to feel guilty because of their ethinic origins (because they are not from the Amhara) ethinic group was also a major flow of the system. Note that the amhara as a people did not perpetuate this oppression against other people. Rather it was the ruling goupe and principally the urban middle class and the elite. Thus you need to be careful when you say if the unitary historty (rather than the federal) of ethiopia has been useful to all its people and if it has any realistic future.

The Woyane trained OPDO and AADM and Shabiya trained OLF, ONLF and TPLF are causing havoc on our people.
What needs to be exposed is who is financing theses tugs. The way I see it criminals who use to work for Derg and Shabia turned liberation front must be scrutinized for their crime and face justice.
The cadres here are criminals who are covering for their bosses, any one who work for theses group must be dealt with in the country they live. There immigration status must be reexamine and charged for falsifying their true identity. I know TPLF cadres who killed thousands who sought asylum with a false identity. A task force should be organized to follow up on these individuals.
Be aware the cadres are diverting us in other issue to cover their criminality.

Talk about bringing the forseable scenario of meles and the other African dictators facing the fate of president Al Bashir of Sudan with ICC court. Removing the head from the system does not remove the ethnic-politics and economic strangle holdof Ethiopia by TPLF, because that political model will be either sustained and /or replaced by the newly formed coalition called medrek/Hibret? with Gebru Asrat of Tigrai Harena as Cahirman of the coalition. Therefore ethnic-politics and economic strangle hold will be well and alive, with no change but durable democracy, where economic development by TPLF and TPLF affiliated enterprizes will preceed democracy. You do not enhance democracy with economic developent by one ethnic group. Rather you need freedom to create a democracy, democratic intitutions and democratic governemt with checks and balances among judiciary, the Adminstration and the parliament. That will never happen under the current scenario. And there the burden lies in UDJP as the originator of the coalition.
