Let us give her a break,
We are the one who urged her to say what she said knowing the consquences and the truth that happened in the first place. After putting here in this precarious situation we want her to be the sacrifical lamb. Let us leave the decision to her political wisdom and support her afterwards. I hope it is for a season like this that a leader is needed. I hope she is smart enough to come up with a formula to confuse the government and convey the true message. Forexample, I would say this if I were her: ” Of course we signed the letters, that is true. What I said is there were negotiations between the elders and us. We have undertaken our part but something left with the government and the elders. Let the elders explain what happend in the process. If there is any confusion that I said we haven’t signed the paper that is misunderstanding and mistake”. I hope EPRDF is not naive to play politics with this. We don’t have time for silly things like this. It is high time for PM Meles to elevate himself above nostarter strategy. I hope this will be over soon.

My advice to Mrs. Birtukan is to take a well calculated risk that is to apologize to meles kzenawi (as ordered) and avoid that rat infested lousy jail. When the dust settles get out of the country quitely and join G7. Everyone was telling you about the danger of dealing with meles kezenawi at such a close range. Don’t even think about pride and determination here. If you stand by your statement, no matter how much logical and correct it might be, meles kezenawi will throw you back to kaliti and let you meltdown for the rest of your life.

I think W/T Birtukan should rescind her statement and avoid the trap of Meles Zenawi. She has made this statement during her tour in Europe to get support for her party. Other questions like the previous pre conditions of Kinijit for joing the parliament were raised but she and her colleague had shied away from these questions. She has understood the effect of these and other issues and has had to make statements against the pardon in order to gain support abraod. She can not avoid all the issues raised during the meetings in Europe. On the other hand, the woyannes can not go further than harassing her since they know that she and her party have taken a lot of compromising and reconciliatory moves. The woyannes know that this the group of moderates trying to be part of the woyanne power ensuring prcess by taking part in the elections and sitting in the parliament. Most of the leadership of the UDJP are not known for their anti-woyanne political stands and have entered into politics recently. The woyannes know that this party is faltering or falling apart and one way of saving this would be loyal oppositon is to harass Birtukan and earn her public support and sympathy.

Melese has lost all the incentives and the disincentives to keep the semblance of Democracy in Ethiopia. The May 2005 election left the emperor naked and his true character has surfaced to the forefront public life for anyone to see it. The vindictive nature of the rulers of the current Ethiopia is comparable to that of the people who lived in two three centuries ago. I wonder if the evilness in them is inherit to their nature or acquired through ruthless experience of the guerilla life. They showed their determenanation to stay in power by all means by killing innocent people point blank on their head back in 2005, thus showing the depth of their total disregard for human life and the absence of elementary decency. Therefore I think there is nothing that will discourage them from throwing the Great Bertukan to the Ethio-Gulag called Kaliti lock her for a long time again.

Succumbing to weyanes’s endless demands to humilate our people is not smart or struggle. Struggle asks for sacrifies and leaders are tested in the time of crisis. For me what ever Birtukan may say now, doesn’t really matter. She is a little rat put in a trap, in the eyes of Woyanne. Any time they can send her to jail, anytime they can kill her, any time they can do anything they want. And they perfectly know that no body can do anything to them.
Actually, the option to decide is provided not only to Birtukan but also to all Ethipians. I personally has long decided that there is no peaceful way of getting our freedom from Woyane. We have to fight them with what they actually understood. We all have to pay every sacrifice to our own freedom.

There are 2 possibilities as what Birtukan or her partie might do in the next days.
1. Say exactly what Woyane wants to hear.
2. Confront Woyane by telling the truth as we know it.
Both scenarios will not add anything to what we already knew. Because we knew that Birtukan or any Kinijit leader commit acts of genocide on Tigrayans. They did not even attempted to commit genocide. I absolutely agree with you, Sami. But, for several decades, we Ethiopians became cowards who never sacrifice but drive innocent people to death. How do we show that we are ready to fight, and be in front of innocent poor people in our struggle to this dictator. But, peaceful opposition is still a hope not because Woyane gives room to it but the people will make it.
I do not think the people will loose respect to UDJ if she rectifies as the nature of Woyanes is well-known. So, it would be better to do that and continue UDJ leadership.

We enjoy so much freedom here in western countries, but we fortget that our people in ethiopia live in a country full of nightmares. A Mafia government infested with Lies. We often also forget what transpired actually because the weyanes orchestrate every day new dilemma to our country. In the first place, Birtuakn has nothing to apologize for because the regime did not live up to its promises and release all the political prisoners. The regime did not reinstate the former Kinjit party. Instead Meles zenawi has destroyed Kinjit in very shrewed ways. The leaders never apologized to the regime. Birtukan has to take any consequences, that is the price she has to pay when she accepted leading an opposition party. Dear Compatriots:
I wonder why some of us are harsh against UDJ and Birtukan. I can not see any reason to attack Birtukan in person or UDJ as a party. I think that Birtukan and the other UDJ members are trying to do their best amidst a burning fire.
They are not against G7 and OLF camps. They are simply trying to fight woyane in their own way. They are only providing an alternative view and approach to fight against ‘Woyane’. No body can provide a single formula that can solve our problem. So, Birtukan deserves respect for what she has accomplished instead of condemnation. We should not waste time targeting in the wrong direction.
If we prefer one party from the other what we can do is just to shift our support to the party of our preference. Some times our demands from UDJ (Birtukan) are unbalanced to the real power entrusted to them. What we demand is too much. We should not think of UDJ as a party in power and of Birtukan as a PM.

I will support whatever choice Bertukan makes. She has already paid a huge price for our freedom. But let her make the choice on her own without us pushing her to be a cowardice.
Why do not we ask instead what Ethiopians at home and abroad should do to support Bertukan to live in her country as a free person who is not dragged to the jails of Meles? Why do not we strive to stop this rotten dictator from turning Ethiopia into his private prison where he throws citizens at will and with impunity?
Today Meles is telling Bertukan to admit guilt when he is the guilty one. And while it s Meles who should be on his knees begging for forgiveness, we are contemplating whether the victim Birtukan should be victimized again by asking Meles forgiveness. Bullies are strong only when others are afraid of them. They are empty and weak if others are not afraid of them. By refusing to respect this unjust order, Burte is telling the dictators that they do not own her life and she is not afraid of them. Meles should here this defiant voice more often and more forcefully. But we should not only encourage Bertukan and others to stand firm on their position, but we should support them. It is our responsibility to ensure their security by exposing what Meles is doing in our country and by working hard to end his political life. He needs to face justice be it through the international criminal court or at home in the hands of Ethiopians.
Meles’ excess will not stop here. He will continue with his devilish acts unless we stop him and stop him now. Tomorrow he will direct his attacks at other true sons and daughters of Ethiopia. Our discussion should focus on what we should be doing to support Bertukan instead of suggesting that she saves her skin and by doing that fulfill Meles’s deep rooted wish to destroy Ethiopia and humiliate and paralyze our leaders.

Our beauty political model should have known better, that the members of her leadership group, were using her pretty face to enhance their selfish political interests and satisfy their giant egos. Does this claim help us to see the change we long for in the coming new year? I hope we will see a change in the coming new year. Change is not bad, but the question is to what or which direction? I know Abeshas need a change towards UNITARY Ethiopia, with no respect for national rights of different nations in the empire. But to their Merdo, the change needed by Oromos is otherwise.
Here is the suggestion from Oromos on the issue how to live in Unity with Abyssinians. The whole message sounds: good GURBITINNAA is better than bad GAABICHAA!
Whenever we read Abeshas crying for unity, we need to ask them: before or after liberty (the mode of question patients ask their doctors)? For Oromos Unity at the cost of our national Liberty is unthinkable. But after being liberated, we can discuss the issue if we think the benefit of unity is more than its challenge!
Otherwise, here is the priority set up we want Abeshas understand. I think, to put things in priority, we need to live in the future together as follows:
1) in good GAABICHAA (symbol for unitary system till 1991), if the marriage is really based on love. As far as I understand, our “marriage” was based on XELEFAA (forced marriage), not on love. That is why the hitherto marriage is rather bad marriage, which definetly will lead to divorce!
2) in good DEBBAALINET (symbol for federalism from 1991 till now), if the “unity” we need is based on free will. As far as I know our hitherto “unity” is a forced unity at gun point, so that it will be lost at gun point!
3) in good GURBITINNAA (symbol for independence longed by oppressed nations), which is better than bad GAABICHAA and bad DEBBAALINET! It is better to live in peace as GOREBET than to fight each other to death by living in one home!
4) If the above three good options fail, the only alternative will be the last: MEGEDAADEL (be devided in clans and kill each other).
It is our all responsibility to avoid this last option and to try to forge one of the first three. I believe the marriage based on love is utopia. Yet optimal solution is UNION based on free will. If these two good options fails, good neighbourhood is better than the bad alternative aka killing each other whereas living in one common home! Can you people crying about YE IMIYE ANDINET agree on this??”

Birtukan, i think the bigger picture is how to continue the struggle. You are our respected leader. There could be time and CRITICAL issues that would require your sacrifice, but not this one. The imprisoned leaders of Kinijit signed that pardon paper. The moral and principle justifications are gone with it. There is no use to bring back that controversey. You signed the pardon inorder to come back, regroup and continue the struggle. Andinet started bold moves of organizing the Ethiopian people, opening offices all over Ethiopia, holding public meetings and coordinating other parties. That scared woyane to death. They want to break that momentum and they want to use your case for diversion. Why should you let the arogant mercinaries use you for thier game?
Come up with some sort of smart explanation and continue leading Andinet and our people to Victory. That is what i believe is the better choice. The Ethiopian people, i think, by this time understands the tricks of woyane and would not judge you negatively if you bend on this less important issue in the eye of the huge challenges ahead of us. It requires your wise leadership.
What ever decision or stand you take, i will be 100% with you.

Dear Editor;
Birtukan may retract her statement so as to avoid foolhardiness.But her stature as a leader will diminish.On the other hand,Woyanne being like that crude stupid animal will always find a lame excuse to devour naive people like her.
You know what the only way to challenge Woyanne is by thinking outside the box.Meaning;by rethinking seriously this anesthetic notion of “peaceful struggle.”Civil disobedience as I understood it from Henry David Thoreau includes to shun all stupid laws passed by oppressors like Woyanne.Of course,her mentor Prof.Mesfin may say that people like me advocate from a safe distance such as America.By the way,does the Professor to whom I have deep respect remember what he wrote to the economic professional association & later in his book YEKIHIDET QULQULET about the consequences if Woyanne wants to continue to rule without the consent of the Ethiopian people after the 2005 election?Whether we like it or not people’s patience have run out.And some of us whose entire family is abroad cannot afford to criticize others just because they called for a different strategy from abroad.What do we have to lose by throwing some jibes at Woyanne in old age?If I sound too rude,I am very sorry.But I know Prof who’s in the habit of calling a spade a spade can handle this.

መግቢያ
ከትላንታና ወዲያ የኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቭዥን፣ ወ/ት ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ በስዊድን ከእሥር ቤት ሕጋዊ ይቅርታ ጠይቀዉ እንዳልተፈቱ የተናገሩትን፣ እንደገና እንዲስቡ፣ ካልሳቡ ግን ተመልሰዉ ወደ እሥር ቤት እንደሚገቡ ኢሕአዴግ ማስጠንቀቂያ እንደሰጠ ዘግቧል። ይህንን በተመለከተ ወ/ት ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳና ፓርቲያቸዉ ምን አይነት ምላሽ ሊሰጡ እንደሚችሉ ለመገመት ያስቸግራል።
(የድርጅታቸዉ አቅም ምን ያህል እንደሆነ ስለማላዉቅ) ። በዚህ ጉዳይ ዙሪያም በፓል ቶክና በኢዔምኤፍ ፎረም ላይ ሰፊ ዉይይቶች እየተደረጉ ነዉ።
ከተሰጡት አስተያየቶች ዉስጥ ወ/ት ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ ኢሕአዴግ ለጠየቀዉ ጥያቄ ምላሽ እንዳይሰጡ ካስፈለገም ወደ እስር ቤት እንዲወርዱ የሚጠይቁ አሉ። «የፈለገ ነገር ይምጣ በጭራሽ ለወያኔ መሸነፍ የለባትም። ከተሸነፈች የሕዝብ ድጋፍ ታጣለች» ሲሉ ነበር አንዳንዶች ያስጠነቀቁት። ሌሎች ደግሞ የወ/ት ብርቱካን መታሰር ለግንቦት ሰባት ትልቅ አጋጣሚ እንደሆነ ሰላማዊ ትግል እንዳበቃለት የሚናገሩም ነበሩ። እነዚህን አስተያየቶች ሳነብ በጣም አዘንኩኝ።
የብርቱካን መታሰር ?
እርግጥ ነዉ ገዢዉ ፓርቲ በአሁኑ ወቅት እያደረገ ያለዉ እጅግ የሚያሳፍር የሚያሳዝንና ብዙ ኢትዮጵያዉያንን የሚያስቆጣ ነዉ። አገር በጋራ መገንባት ሲኖርብን ኢሕአዴግ ለምን እንደገና እየደገመ እየደጋገም ሕዝብን በጦር እንደሚወጋ አይገባኝም።
ለምንድን ነዉ ኢሕአዴግ ይህንን የሚያደርገዉ ብዬ ስጠይቅ አንድ መልስ ነዉ ጉልቶ ወደ አይምሮዬ የሚመጣዉ። ኢሕአዴግ የአንድነት ፓርቲ እያደረጋቸዉ ያሉትን ሕዝባዊ እንቅስቃሴዎች ከተቻለ መግደል ካልተቻለ ማዳከምና መከፋፈል ስለሚፈልግ ነዉ። ሕዝባዊ የተጠናክረ የሕዝብ ድጋፍ ያለዉ ድርጅት ማየት ኢሕአዴግ አይፈልግም። ዳግማዊ ቅንጅት በተጠናከረ መልኩ ለምርጫ 2002 እንዲቀርብ አይፈለግም። ስለዚህ በኢሕአዴጎች እቅድ ነገሮች ከቁጥጥር ዉጭ ከመሆናቸዉ በፊት ይህ የአንድነት ፓርቲ እንቅስቃሴዉ መገታት አለበት።
እንግዲህ ኢሕአዴግ ያሳሰበዉ የይቅርታው ጉዳይ ሳይሆን የአንድነት መጠናከር ነዉ። የይቅርታዉን ጉዳይ የተጠቀመበት አንድነትን ለመምታት እንደመሳሪያ አድርጎ ነዉ። ታዲያ ኢትዮጵያዉያን ይህንን ለምን እንደምንስተዉና ኢሕአዴግ ባዘጋጀልን ወጥመድ ዉስጥ ለምን እንደምንገባ አይገባኝም ?
የአንድነት ፓርቲ በሰፊዉ መንቀሳቀስ የጀመረዉ ገና በቅርብ ነዉ። ያለፈዉ ሳምንት በአዲስ አበባ የተደረገዉ ገና የመጀመሪያ ህዝባዊ ስብሰባ ነዉ። ገና ሕዝብ እንደሚገባዉ አልተደራጀም። ገና ድርጅቱ መዋቅሩን በሰፊው አልዘረጋም። በዚህ አመት ሊከፍት ካሰባቸዉ 127 ቢሮዎች 35 ብቻ ነዉ ገና የከፈተዉ። ገና የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ከፍርሃት አልተላቀቀም።
በዚህ ሁኔታ በመሪዎች ላይ የሚመጣ እሥር ትግሉን ክፉኛ ይጎዳዋል ብዬ አስባለሁ። በዚህ ሁኔታ “ወ/ት ብርቱካን ትታሰር» ብሎ ማለት በስሜትና በጭፍን የሆነ እንጂ ማስተዋልና ጥበብ እንዲሁም የሩቁን ያገናዘበ አባባል ነዉ አላልም።
የፖለቲካ መሪዎች የመታሰራቸዉ ጥቅም ካለመታሰራቸዉ ካልበለጠ በስተቀር በተቻለ መጠን ላለመታሰር መሞከር አለባቸዉ እላለሁኝ። አምባገነኖችን በድፍረት ከመግጠማችን በፊት አቅማችንን ማሳደግ አለበን። «መሪዎቻችንን ካሳሰርን እነርሱን የማስፈታት አቅምና ዝግጅቱ አለን ወይ ? » ብለን መጠይቅ ጠይቀንም መመለስ የግድ ያስፈልጋል።
ከምርጫ ዘጠና ሰባት በኋላ የሆነዉን መመልከት ወደፊት ለምናደርገዉ ዉሳኔ ጥቅም ይኖረዋል ብዬ አስክባለሁኝ። ቅንጅት ገና ከታች እስከ ላይ አልተቀናጀም ነበር። በመሪዎች አካባቢ ዉስጥ ውስጡን ችግር ነበር። ህዝቡ ኢሕአዴግን ስለማይደግፍ በግባታዊነት ቅንጅትን ደገፈ እንጂ ቅንጅት በራሱ ጥንካሬ ኖሮት አልነበረም። እንደ አንድ የጠነከረ ድርጅት ከገዢዉ ፓርቲ የሚመጣበትን ዱላ ለመቋቋም አልቻለም ነበር። የቅንጅት መሪዎች ሲታሰሩ ወዲያዉ ሁሉ ነገር ተፍረከረከ። ህዝቡ መሪ አጣ። ሕዝቡ በራሱ አነሳሽነት በግብታዊነት ተፍጨረጨረ። ተማሪዎች ባልተቀናጀ መልኩ ተቃዉሟቸዉን አሰሙ። ነገር ግን ኢሕአዴግ በቀላሉ የሕዝብን ተቃዉሞ በጉልበት ለማፈን አላስቸገረዉም።
በዉጭ አገር የቅንጅት መሪዎች ፓርላማ እንዳይገቡ ስንገፋ የነበርን ሰዎች እስር በርስ ተከፋፈልን። መሪዎች ታስረዉ እነርሱ ማስፈታት ላይ ሙሉ ትኩረት ሊሰጥ ሲገባዉ በትብበር ለነጻነትና ለዲሞክራሲ ዙሪያ ፣ በቅንጅት አለም አቀፍ ዙሪያ፣ በቅንጅት ካዉንስል ዙሪያ ስንጨቃጨቃና ስንነታረክ ነበር ያሳለፍነዉ።
ስለዚህ ያን ያህል ድጋፍ የነበራቸዉ የቅንጅት መሪዎች እንደነበራቸዉ ድጋፍ አንድ ቀን እሥር ቤት መዋል አልነበረባቸዉም ነበር። ግን ከ 20 ወራት በላይ ታሰሩ። ታዲያ ከሶስት አመት በፊት የተሰራዉ ስህተት ለምንድን ነዉ እንደገና ለመድገም የምንሞክረዉ?
ዳያስፖራዉ እርግጥ ለትግሉ ትልቅ አስተዋጾ አድርጓል። ዳያስፖራዉ የሚናቅ አካል አየደለም። ነገር ግን በዳያስፖራ ያለን አንዳንድ አካላት ነገሮችን በግርድፉ ብቻ የምናይ አለን። አገዛዙ ለምን እየወሰደ ያለዉን እርማጃ እየወሰደ እንዳለ አርቀን አናሳብም። ብልጠትና ማስተዋል ይጎድለናል። እንዲሁ በጭፍን አገዛዙን መጋፈጥ ያስፈልጋል እንላለን።
የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ አቅሙን ገንብቶ በሚገባ እስኪደራጅ ድረስ ወ/ት ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ እንድትታሰርበት አይፈለግም። የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ አብሮት የሚታገል መሪ ያስፈልገዋል። በዉጭ አገር ያለን ኢትዮጵያዉያን ለነጻነት የሚያደርገዉን ትግል እንደግፈዋለን እንጂ ነጻነትን አናመጣለትም። ስለዚህ ለትግሉ የሚበጀዉን የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ያወቃል። ለትግሉ መደረግ ያለበትን ከኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ጋራ ያለ የአንድነት ፓርቲ ያወቃል። በመሆኑ በወ/ት ብርቱካ ዙሪያ በገዚዉ ፓርቲ የተወረወረዉን ማስፈራራት ዛቻ እንዴት መመከት እንዳለበት ፓርቲዉ ይወስናል። የፓርቲዉን ድርጅታዊ አቅም ከግምት ዉስጥ በማስገባት የሚወሰነዉን ዉሳኔ በዉጭ አገር ያለን ኢትዮጵያዉን መደገፍ ነዉ የሚጠበቅብን እንጂ በዚህም ሆነ በዚያ ኢሕአዴግ በሰጠን የቤት ሥራ በአንድነት ላይ መነሳት ወይንም እርስ በርሳችን ሌላ ሙግት መፍጠር የለብንም።
ወ/ት ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ ለአገዛዙ ምላሽ ካልሰጡና ወደ እሥር ቤት ከወረዱ የኝህ ቆራጥ ሴት መታሰር ከዳር እስከ ዳር ሊያነቅንቀን ይችል ይሆናል። እስከአሁን የተሰራዉ ድርጅታዊ ሥራ ለኢሕአዴግ በቂ ምላሽ በመስጠት ሊቀመንበሯ እንድትፈታ የሚያደርግ ሁኔታ ሊኖር ይችላል። በተቃራኒዉ አንድነት ገና ብዙ እንደሚቀረዉ በአሳቢነት ተወስዶ ለድርጅታቸው ጥቅምና ትግሉ መሪ እንዳያጣ በማስፈለጉ ፓርቲዉ የገዢዉን ፓርቲ ጥያቄ እንደ አንድ ጊዚያዊ ስትራቴጂ አደርጎ ቢወስደዉ ደግሞ ይህ ፍርሃት ሳይሆን አስተዋይነትና ብልህነት እንደሆነ ማሰብ አለብን።
ይህንን ዉሳኔ ተቃዉመዉ ወ/ት ብርቱካን መታሰር ነበረባት የሚሉ በዉጭ አገር ያሉ አካላት ካሉ አንድ ጣታቸዉን ወደ እርሷ ሲቀስሩ ሶስቱ ወደ እነርሱ መሆኑን መዘንጋት የለባቸዉም። ፈርተን ሰላምዊ ትግሉ ትተን በዉጭ አገር መኖርን የመረጥን ሰዎች በኢትዮጵያ ያሉ ወገኖቻችን የሚወስዱትን ስትራቲጂካዊ እርምጃዎች የማንቋሸሽ ሞራል ኦቶሪቲ ያለን አይመስለኝም።
ዳያስፖራዉ መፍትሄ አምጪ እንጂ ችግር ፈጣሪ አይሁን !
ሌላም በዚህ ዙሪያም መጠይቅ ያለብን ጥያቄም አለ። ዳያስፖራዉ ዉስጥ ያለን «ብትታሰር ትታሰር» የምንል ከሆነ እንዴት አድርገን ነዉ የምናስፈታት ? ዲፖሎማቲክ ተጽኖ ለማድረግ አንድነቱ አለን ? በዉጭ አገር ስንት ቦታ የተከፋፈልን አይደለንም ? እስቲ በዉጭ አገር ያሉ የተቃዋሚ ድህረ ገጾችን ተመልከቱ። እስቲ ደብተራዉን፣ ኢትዮጵያ ሪቪዉን፣ ኢትዮ ላየን፣ የዳይስፖራ ፓልቶክ ክፍልን፣ የከረንታ አፌር ፓልቶክ ክፍልን ተመለክቱ ? እሲቲ በዲፖላምቲክ አንጻር የሚሰራዉን እዩ።
በአንድነት በጋራ ተመካክሮ በዲፖሎማሲዉ አንጻር የሚሰራ አንድ አካል እንኳን የለንም። በአንድ በኩል የአንድነት ድጋፍ ድርጅት የዉጭ ግንኙነት ኮሚቴ አለ። በሌላ በኩል የመኢአድ የዲፕሎማሲ ቡድን አለ። ኤች አር 2003 ኮአሊሽን የሚባለዉ አለ። የኢትዮጵያ ሶሊዳሪትይ ንቅናቄ አለ። ግንቦት ሰባትም የራሱ የዲፖላምሲ ዘርፍ ሳይኖረዉ አይቀርም። እነ ኢሕአፓም እንደዚሁ። እንግዲህ ሁሉም በዘርፉ ለግሉ የተለያዩ ማህደሮችን እየያዘ የአሜሪካኖችን ቢሮ ያንኳካል። አሜሪካኖችም ግራ ከመጋባታቸዉ የተነሳ ይንቁናል። «አይረቡም፣ አብረዉ መስራት እንኳን የማይችሉ» ብለዉ የምናቀርባቸዉን ጽሁፎች ወረቀት ወደ ሚቀዳድ ማሽን ይወረዉሩታል።
እስቲ ትግሉ ላይና ለአገራችን የሚበጀዉ ላይ ከማተኮር ይልቅ እርስ በርስ ለመጠቃቃት የምናጠፋዉን ጊዜና ጉልበት እዩ። ዳያስፖራዉ አንድነት ኖሮት ሁላችንም በጋራ ሥራችን ሰርተን ቢሆን ኖሮ በርግጥ በገዢዉ ፓርቲ ላይ ትልቅ ጫና ማሳደር አንችልም? ዳያስፖራዉ አንድነት የሌለዉና እርስ በርሱ የሚቧጨቅ በመሆኑ ኢሕአዴግ እራሱ ዳያስፖራዉን እንደናቀዉ ማወቅ ይኖርብናል።
ስለዚህ ዳያስፖራዉ በአፋጣኝ መተባበር አለበት እላለሁኝ። ኢትዮጵያ ዉስጥ በሚደረገዉ ሰላምዊ ትግል በአገር ቤት ላሉ ወገኖቻችን ድጋፍ መሆን አለብን። ኢትዮጵያ ያሉት ወገኖቻችን የበለጠ የተወሳሰበ ሁኔታ ዉስጥ እንዲገቡ ማድረግ የለብንም። «ደካማ ናቸዉ። ልደቱና በየነ ሆኑ ማለት ነዉ። የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ይተፋቸዋል» የሚለዉን አነጋገራችን ማቆም አለበን። የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ የገዢዉን ፓርቲ ማንነት ጠንቅቆ ያወቃል። የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ የአንድነት ፓርቲን ጠንቅቆ ያወቃል። እራሳቸዉን መስዋዕት አድርገዉ እየታገሉና ገዢዉን ፓርቲ እየፈተኑ ያሉት እነማን እንደሆኑ ያዉቃቸዋል።
ከዚህ በፊት «ይቅርታ ጠይቀዉ ወጡ» ብሎ ገዢው ፓርቲ ፕሮፖጋንዳዉን ሲነዛ የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ምንም አላለም። ይልቅ የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ የተናደደዉ በቅንጅት ዉስጥ በተፈጠረዉ ችግር ነዉ እንጂ። በቅንጅት ዉስጥ ለተፈጠረዉም ችግር አንዱ ተጠያቂ ዳያስፖራዉ ነዉ። በነገራችን ላይ አሁን አንድነት በይቅርታዉ ዙሪያ ያጋጠመዉ ችግር ዳያስፖራ ወለድ መሆኑንም ማስታወስ አለበን። እኛ ዳያስፖራዎች ወደፊት ከማየት ይልቅ ያለፈዉንና የፈጀዉን ነገር እየመዘዝን ባናወጣ ኖሮ ኢሕአዴግ አንድነትን ለማጥቃት ይሄን አጋጣሚ አያገኝም ነበር። ስለዚህ ዳያስፖራዉ ችግር ፈጣሪ ሳይሆን መፍትሄ አምጪ መሆን ይጠበቅበታል።
አንዳንድ የፖለቲካ ድርጅቶችን በተመለከተ በማያያዝ በውጭ አገርም ሆነ በአገር ዉስጥ ላሉ የፖለቲካ ድርጅቶችን በተመለከት የምለዉ አለኝ። አንዳንዶች ይህ በገዢዉ ፓርቲ በአንድነት ላይ የተፈጠረዉ ችግር እነርሱን የሚጠቅም አድርገዉ ዉስጥ ዉስጡን በደስታ ሊቀበሉት ይችላሉ። በተለይም በትጥቅ ትግል የሚያምኑ ኃይላት በትግል ስልት ዙሪያ የሚደረግ ክርክር እያነሱ የሰላማዊ ትግል ዋጋ እንደሌለዉ አድርገዉ የማቅረብ ዘመቻ በደጋፊዎቻቸው አማካኝነት ጀምረዋል።
ይህ አይነቱ ዘመቻ በተፈጠረዉ ችግር ለማትርፍ የመሞከር ዘመቻ አድርጌ ነዉ የማየዉ። እንዲህ አይነቱ ድርጊት ጸረ-ኢትዮጵያዊና ሊወገዝ የሚገባዉ ድርጊት ነዉ። ለሰላምና ለዲሞክራሲ የቆሙ ታጋዮቻችን አምባገነንነትን ፊት ለፊት ሲጋፈጡ አብረናቸዉን መቆምና እነርሱን መደገፍ ይገባል እንጂ የበለጠ እነርሱ እየሰሩ ያሉትን ለማዳካም ወይንም ለማጣጣል መሞከር የፖለቲካ ዝቅተት ነዉ።
እነዚህ ኃይላት አንድ ማወቅ ያለባቸዉ ነገር ቢኖር የሌላዉን የትግል ስልት ሲያጣጥሉ እነርሱም ከዘራፍ ፖለቲካ ዉጭ ለኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ያመጡለት አንዳች መፍተሄ እንደሌለ ነዉ። የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ሬዲዮ መስማት አይደለም ጥማቱ። የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ ጥዋትና ማታ የኢሕአዴግን ሐጢያት የሚያወራለት አይደለም ፍላጎቱ። የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ የሚያደራጀዉ፣ አብሮት የሚሰራ፣ ከጎኑ የቆመ ድርጅት ነዉ የሚፈልገዉ። ጥያቄዉ የትግል ስልት አይደለም። ጥያቄዉ በቂ አደረጃጀት አለመኖሩ ነዉ። እነዚህ ድርጅቶች እስከምናዉቀዉ ድረስ በኢንተርኔት ላይ አርማቸዉን ከማየት በስተቀር አንድ ቀበሌ ኢትዮጵያ ዉስጥ አስለቅቀዉ ሲንቀሳቀሱ አላየንም።
ስለዚህ እኛ ኢትዮጵያዉያን ከስሜት በጸዳ መልኩ ሁሉንም አመዛዝነን እንፈርዳለን፤ በተጨባጭ ዉጤት እያመጣ ያለዉን የአገር ቤት ሰላማዊ ትግል እናግዛለን የሚል ትልቅ ተስፋና እምነት አለኝ።
የኢሕአዴግ ደጋፊዎች በተመለከተ ኢሕአዴግ አሁን ያለዉን የዜጎች የዴሞክራሲያዊ መብት እንዲከበር የሚጠይቅ ሕገ መንግስትን ያጸደቀ ፓርቲ ነዉ። ኢሕአዴግ አገራችን ያላየችዉን አንጻራዊ ዲሞክራሲ ያስተዋወቀ ድርጅት ነዉ።
የአንድነት ፓርቲ በበኩሉ ኢሕአዴግን እንደጠላት የሚያይ ድርጅት አይደለም። በሰላም በፍቅር በዉይይት በመነጋገር የአገራችን ችግር ይፈታል ብሉ የሚያምን ነዉ። የአንድነት ፓርቲ ለአገራችን ዘለቄታዊ መፍትሄ እንዲኖር ኢሕአዴግ እራሱ የመፍትሄዉ አካል መሆን አለበት ብሎ ያማናል።
ኢሕአዴግ በአሁን ወቅት የአንድነት ፓርቲን እንደ «ጠላት« አድርጎ እየወሰደ መሆኑ ብዙዎቻችን እጅግ እያስቆጣ ነዉ። የአንድነት ፓርቲና ሊቀመንበሯ ላይ የተጀመረዉ የዛቻና የማስፈራራት ፖለቲካ በኛ ላይ እንደተጀመረ አድርገን ነዉ የምንቆጥረዉ። ይህ ኢሕአዴግንም ወደፊት የሚጎዳዉ ጉዳይ ይመስለኛል። በአገራችን ሁላችን ሊኖር የምንፈልገዉንም እርቅና መቀራረብ ክፉኛ ወደኋላ የሚመለሰዉ ነዉ። ጊዜና ገንዘባቸዉን የከሰከሱ የአገር ሽማግሌዎችን ዉጤት ማርከስ ነዉ።
ስለዚህ አሁንም በኢሕአዴግ ዉስጥ ልቦና አይሞሮ ያላቸው ብዙ አሉ ብዬ ስለማስብ እንደ አንድ ዜጋ ኢትዮጵያዊ ጥሪዬን አቀርባለሁ። በኢሕአዴግ ዉስጥ ያላቹህ አባላት ድማጻችሁን እንድታሰሙና በአንድነት ፓርቲ ላይ ሊወሰድ ያለዉን እርምጃ በመዉሰድ ፓርቲያችሁ ትልቅ ስህተት እንዳይፈጽም ከፍተኛ ግፊት እንድታደርጉ እጠይቃለሁ። አገራችን በሰሜን ከሻቢያ ጋር በምስራቅ ከሶማሊያ ሽብርተኞች ጋር በአገር ዉስጥ ደግሞ በሽታ ረሃብ ቻጋር የኖሩ ወድነት ከመሳሰሉ ጠላቶቻችን ጋር እየተጋፈጥን ነዉ። አሁን ያሉን ችግሮቻችን በጣም በዝተዋል። «በእንቀርት ላይ ጆሮ ደግፍ» እንደተባለዉ እባካቹህ በችግር ላይ ችግር አናብዛ። እስቲ ይብቃን!!!!!!
ይልቅ ለሁላችንም የሚበጀን በቅርቡ አቶ ታምራት ላይኔ እንዳሉት ፍቅር ነዉ። በፍቅር አገራችንን በጋራ እንገባ። ድርጅታቹህ ከእልህ ፖለቲካ ይዉጣ። ድርጅታቹህ ሌላዉ ኢትዮጵያዊን እንደ ጠላት አይመልከት። ሁላችንም ኢትዮጵያውያን ነን። በፍቅር በስለማ በአንድነት ተያይዘን ሁላችንም ከተዘፈቅንበት ቀንበር እንላቀቅ።

I am a supporter of Andnet/Kinijit. My response to this questions is the following: regardless of what Birtukan or the leadership decides to do about this ultimatum from the government, I will be fully behind the decision whatever it may be. Let’s not second guess the leaders on every issue. The only way the outcome can have a negative impact on the movement is if we, the supporters, create division amongst ourselves. If we are behind the decision, whatever that decision might be, we will neutralize the threat. I hope that is what happens.

The fundamental issue here is, whether the so called peaceful struggle during the Tribal Juntas reign of terror is possible or not. If she finds out that it is a lost cause, apologize and try to get out the country and start the fight all over again. But, if the objective reality is ripe for a revolution, than by no means stay and fight for Ethiopia, and be the first and only female revolutionary to defeat the neo-nazi beasts in power in Ethiopia today. This event would be a political earth quake and catapult Ethiopia’s image in the world and would cleanse Ethiopia’s image of famine, hunger and disease.

ብርቱካን፤ እነሆ ሌላ ታሪካዊ ቅጽበት መጣ። ታስሮ የሟሟ የለም። ቴዲም አልሟሟ። ዶ/ር ታዬም። ታምራትም እንዲሁ። አሁን ያ ታዬ እዚያው እንደታሰረ ቢቀር ይሻለው ነበር እዚህ ከሚርመጠመጥ። ሆነ ሀኦነነ፤ ብርቱካን ሆይ፤ ብትታሰሪ በቅሌት አይደለም። ወይም በስርቆት። ለመብትሽና ለኢትዮጵያዊያን መብት ባደረግሽው በምታደርጊው ተጋድሎ እንጂ።
የዛሬ ሁለት ሺህ አንድ ዓመት አካባቢም እንዲህ ያለ ተመሳሳይ ጥያቄ በእስራኤለ ውስጥ ተነስቶ ነበር። ዛሬም ሰኔና ሰኞ ተገናኝተዋል። እነሆ ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ የዛሬ ሁለት ሺህ አንድ ዓመት አካባቢ ትንሽቷ፣ አልባሌዋ፣ የተናቀችው ቤተልሄም የተጋፈጠችው ጥያቄ ከፊቷ ተደቀነባት። ቃል በቃል አላስታውሰውም። በከፊል ግን እንዲህ ነው። ክርስቶስ የሚወለድ ሰሞን፤ በእውኑ አንቺ የኤፍራታዋ ቤተልሄም ከሌሎች የይሁዳ ነገዶች ታንሻለሽን? ነገር ግን የእስራኤል ንጉስ የሚሆን ካነቺ ይወለዳል አይነት ነገር። ቤተልሄምም አላነሰችም። እንዲያውም ልቃ ተገኘች እንጂ። የክርስቲያኖች ንጉስ፤ የክርስትናቸው ማእዘን የሆነው ክርስቶስ ተወለደባት። ብርቱካን ያ የንግስትነት ቅጽበት አምልጧት ነበር። አሁን ተመልሶ መጥቷል። ሰሞኑን ቴዲ አፍሮንና ሌሎች የህሊና እስረኞችን ልናስብ ላይ ታች እያልን ነው። ቴዲ አፍሮ የብርቱካንን ያህል ስለኢትዮጵያዊያን ተሟግቶ አይደለም። እንዲያውም የተወሰነውን ኢትዮጵያዊ አጀንዳ እኛ ጫንበት እንጂ። ሀሳቡም እቅዱም የነበረው አይመስለኝም። እንዲያ ከሆነ፤ በእውኑ ብርቱካን ከቴዲ አፍሮ፣ ከአጼ ቴዎድሮስስ ቢሆን ታንሳለችን? እስካሁን ታንሳለች። አጼ ቴዎድሮስ ግን የሰሩት የሰሩትን ብቻ ነው። ከዚህ በኋላ ሊጨምሩ የሚችሉት አንድም ነገር የላቸው። እነሆ ብርቱካን ከነሱ ሁሉ የምትበልጥበትና ከነኦውንግ ሳን ሱ ኪ፣ ከነማርቲን ሉተር ኪንግ፣ ከነማንዴላ፣ ከነጋንዲ ተርታ የምትሰለፍበት ቅጽበት መጥቷል።
ዳር ይዞ፤ ያዘው፣ ግደለው፣ በለው፣ ፍጨው፣ ከካው፣ እንደማለት የሚቀል ነገር የለም። ፈረሱ እምቢኝ ብሎ ያስቸገረውን ሰው አንዱ እንዲህ አድርገው፤ አንዱ ደግሞ እንደዚያ እያሉ ሲያስቸግሩት፣ ቢቸግረው፣ ግራ ቢገባው፣ አይ መሬት ያለ ሰው እንዳለው ነገር መሆኑ ነው። ግን ደግሞ ብርቱካን የምትሰራውን የምታውቅ፣ በራሷ የምትመራ፣ ጎበዝ ሴት ነች። ጎበዝ መሪ። እኔም ሆንኩ ሌሎች ሰዎች ምንም ስላልን ብቻ ዝም ብላ የምትነዳ ህጻን አይደለችም። ጊዜዋን ጠብቃ የበሰለች፡ የምትበስል ብርቱካን እንጂ። በዚሁ ሰሞን ሲያትል ከሚገኝ አፍቃሬ ብርቱካን ጓደኛዬ ጋር ብርቱካንን ስለመርዳትና ስለማጠናከር እየተነጋገርን ነበር። በዚያ ዙሪያ ብዙ መጣጥፎችን ለመጣፍ እየተነጋገርን፤ ኢህአዴጎች እናስርሻለን ብለው እያስፈራሯት እንደሆነና ብትታሰር ለሷም ክብር ለሁላችንም ደግሞ የማታገያ ጉዳይ ሊሆን እንደሚችል እያወጋን ምክክራችንን ሳናበቃ እነሆ ኢትዮጵያ ዛሬ ድረ-ገጽ፡ ከወደ አዲስ አበባ፡ ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ “በአውሮፓ ሀገራት አድርገሽው የነበረውን ንግግር የሚያስተባብል እርማት ካላደረግሽ፤ ይቅርታ ተደርጎልሽ የነበረው ተነስቶ እስር ቤት ትገቢያለሽ” የሚል የመጨረሻ ማስጠንቀቂያ እንደተሰጣት ዘገበ። በቴሌቪዥንና በሬዲዮም ይሄው ሆኗል አሉ ዘመቻው።
ብርቱካን፤ እነሆ ሌላ ታሪካዊ ቅጽበት መጣ። ታስሮ የሟሟ የለም። ቴዲም አልሟሟ። ዶ/ር ታዬም። ታምራትም እንዲሁ። አሁን ያ ታዬ እዚያው እንደታሰረ ቢቀር ይሻለው ነበር እዚህ ከሚርመጠመጥ። ሆነ ሀኦነነ፤ ብርቱካን ሆይ፤ ብትታሰሪ በቅሌት አይደለም። ወይም በስርቆት። ለመብትሽና ለኢትዮጵያዊያን መብት ባደረግሽው በምታደርጊው ተጋድሎ እንጂ። ቀድሞውንም መታሰራችሁ ያለአግባብ ነበር። አፈታታችሁም መቼም ይሁን ብለን እንጂ የሚያኮራና የሚያንቀባርር አልነበረም። መቼም ዋጥነው እንጂ አንገታችንን አስደፍቶናል። ቴዲ አንድ ሰው ገደልክ ተብሎ ነው የታሰረው። የሚመጣውን አናውቅም። ገደለም አልገደለም፤ አልገደልኩም ብሎ እነሆ ወደ እስር ቤት ተወርውሮ አሳሩን ይቆጥራል። አንቺና ወዳጆችሽ ግን ዘር ነው አጠፋችሁ የተባላችሁት። ብሄር በብሄር ላይ አነሳሳች፣፤ መንግስት ለመገልበጥ አሴራችሁ፣ ህገ መንግስታዊ ስርአት ለመናድ ተነሰሳችሁ፤ ቀሰቀሳችሁም። እነሆ ተፈረደባችሁ። ታሰራችሁ። ሁላችንም እንደምንገምተውም በሽምግልና ብዛት ተለቀቃችሁ። ስለሽምግልናው ይዘትና ዝርዝር ጉዳዮች ባናውቅም፤ እናንተ ከተፈታችሁ ጊዜ ጀምሮ በአፈታታችሁ ዙሪያ የተድበሰበሰ ነገር ብቻ እየሰማን፤ እኛም ብዙ ሳያመን ብንኖርም፤ ኢህአዴግ ግን ከመፈታታችሁ ዋዜማ ጀምሮ በቴሌቪዥንና በሬዲዮ ሀጢያታችሁንና ሽንፈታችሁን እያበዛ ከመናገር ወደኋላ አላለም። እናንተ ቃላችሁን ጠበቃችሁ። እነሱ ግን ቃላቸውን አጠፉ።
መቼም ከተፈታችሁ በኋላ ያለውን ሁላችንም ስለምናውቀው፤ ብዙም አላነሳው። አንድ ነር ብቻ ግን ባነሳ መልካም ነው። ርስ በርሳችሁ ስትጣሉ፤ በመካከላችሁ የተፈጠረውን ጸብና ውዝግብ ባዩ ጊዜ፤ ሁላችሁም ከምትፈቱ ይልቅ እዚያው እስር ቤት እንድትቆዩ ይሻል እንደነበር የተመኙ ሁላ ነበሩ። የናንተ መታሰር አስደስቷቸው ሳይሆን ስለናንተ ያላቸው ክብር እስራታችሁን አስመኝቷቸው። ይባስ ብሎ በምንም ይሁን በምን ከለቀቀ፣ ከፈታ፣ በኋላ የመናገርና የመደራጀት ሀሳብሽንም የመግለጽ መብትሽን ሽሮ እነሆ የተናገርሽውን ዋጭ ያለበለዚያ እስር ቤት እንመልስሻለን። ይሄ የድፍረት ጫፍ ነው። ይሄ የትእቢት ጣሪያ ነው። ይሄ የሚመጣውንም የሚናገርና የሚገልጽ ምልክት ነው። እነሆ በሄድሽበት ሁሉ የምትይውን እናደምጣለን። ለኛ የማይመች፣ የማይጥም፣ የማይስማማ ነገር በተናገርሽ ቁጥር እየተከታተልን እናስውጥሻለን አይነት ነገር ነው። ለዚህ ነው፡ ቴዎድሮስ ዘፋኙ፣ ወጣቱ ያልዋጠውን ወንጀል፤ ብርቱካን ፖለቲካኛዋ፣ ብቱካን የወደፊት አገር መሪዋ፣ ብርቱካን የቅንጅቷ፣ ብርቱካን አርበኛችን የምትውጠው ያልነው።
በእውኑ ብርቱካን ከቴዎድሮስ ታንሳለችን? በእውኑ ብርቱካን ለልጇ ያልሰራችውን ሰራሁ ማለት ታስለምዳታለችን? ታወርሳታለችን? ብርቱካንም ትሁን ጓደኞቿ የማንንም ዘር ለማጥፋት አልተነሱም። በዘር ማጥፋት ወንጀል መከሰስ ካለበት መከሰስ ያለበት ራሱ ኢህአዴግ ነው። የዘርና ብሄር ፖለቲካ ወደአገራችን ያስተዋወቀ፤ ዘረኛ መንግስት። ራሱ ባመጣው ጣጣ ሳትጠለፍ እነሆ ዘርንና ብሄርን ተራምዳ ኢትዮጵያዊነትን የምታራምደውን ብርቱካንን በዘር ማጥፋት ከሶ አዎን አጥፍቻለሁ አስባላት። እንደገና ደግሞ አሁንም ድገሚው፡ ያለበለዚያ ትገቢያታለሽ። አሁንም በፊትም ብርቱካን እስረኛ ነች። ኢህአዴግ ከዚህ በላይ ሊያመጣ የሚችለው እስርም እንግልትም የለም። እንደውም ካሁኑ ሁኔታዋ የእስር ቤት ውሎዋ እኛን ሊያታግል፤ እኛን ሊያስተባብር ይችላል። በርግጥ በዚህ ቃል አልገባም። ማለቴ ብርቱካን ካመነችበት እንጂ እኛን በተለይ እዚህ ባህር ማዶ ያለንን ሰዎች ተማምና እንኩዋን እስር ቤት ፖሊስ ጣቢያም ትግባ አልልም። ግን ከቆመችለት ዓላማ አንጻር፣ አሁን ነጻ መስላ ከምትመላለስ ይልቅ፤ ብትታሰር የበለጠ ዋጋ አላት ብዬ አምናለሁ። ብርቱካን አሁንም እስረኛ ነች። ይሄ ቅጽበት ለብርቱካን ወሳኝ ነው። ዛሬ አውሮፓ መጥታ የተናገረችውን ከካደች፤ ዛሬ አሜሪካ መጥታ ያለችንን ከለወጠች፤ ነገ መጥታ የምትነግረንን የማያምኑ ብዙዎች ናቸው። ለኛ ስትል መንገዷን ትለውጥ ማለታችን አይደለም። ለኛም ለራሷም ስትል በመንገዷ ትሂድ እንጂ። የብርቱካን መንገድ ደግሞ እውነት ነው። እውነቱን ከተናገረች እንኩዋን እስር ቤት ሲኦልም እንጨምርሻለን ቢሏት መፍራትና የተናገረችውን መካድ የለባትም። በእውኑ ብርቱካን ከቴዲ አፍሮ ታንሳለችን? ከአጼ ቴዎድሮስስ ቢሆን?

It remembers me the so called prime minster Tamrat Layne. Twelve years ago he was confessed on Ethiopian TV on his party dismisal and accusations of sugar. He was like a child, his grace and smile wasn’t his own at that time. Lots of us thinking he was speaking at gun point. his body language also tells the same thing. What happen after then, he suffered for the last 12 years in Kality. Whether our beloved Birtukan retract her word or not Weyane will not stop provocking our leaders. Tyrant Meles Zenawi and his propaganda outlets have scaled up attacks against courageous Judge Birtukan Midekssa. What is suprising is the sheepish nature of some of the people within the UDJP leadership(Prof Mesfin , Yaqob and Dr Hailu Araya..) in the face of deliberate attack against their leader, Birtukan.
I hold Dr Hailu in high regard. But I am troubled that he is not able to see the fake for what it is and is playing a silly game by talking about the so called the ‘pardon’ that he himself was unable to explain what it is.
Dr Hailu knows the answer cannot be-’…that is what it says’, an evasive and totally incoherent response to a pointed question by the VOA journalist:

In fact, his response confirms Birtukan’s straight forward answer that the Kinijit leadership agreed ‘to let go’ under pressure from the so called the elders as part of taking a broader view than signing any declaration prepared by the regime that imprisoned the elected officials(Amnesty Int’l classified them as prisoners of conscience) and had killed hundreds.
Hence, it is high time that the UDJP leadership rally behind their courageous leader(Birtukan) or call a closure to the stupid pretension of a peaceful route under the repressive regime. There will not be another figure head with any sense of credibility other than Birtukan for the UDJP to even call itself a party let alone to plan for political engagement, however diminutive that maybe!
It is time that the likes of Hailu, Mesfin and Yaqob see themselves in the mirrors and come to terms that generating headlines and paper based campaigns are very poor substitute for the real thing!!
I have always felt that with Dr Birhanu Nega’s wise decision to move on, no-one with a strategic understanding/courage could provide the required leadership in the narrow landscape under Zenawi’s oppressive environment. But, I had hoped that with Birtukan’s untainted image and courage, the new party in the name of the UDJP is a sort something is better than nothing entity.
However, with Birtukan being harassed and possibly in line to go back to prison/undermined not least by those around her, the UDJP may soon disappear for good.The ‘peaceful route’ has never been a realistic option!!

I sense Ato Elias has good intention and provides useful information. He is one of my main sources of news and I have defended his rights to search and provide useful news. However, I am concerned that his attack against the leadership of Birtukan Midekssa is not well-informed. I was eager to ask Birtukan if she could give interview to the ER while on tour in Europe, but did not manage to ask her.
Perhaps, Elias could contact her office or the UK support group for the UDJP to facilitate the possibility of interview with the UDJP chair-person(Birtukan) to open up an avenue for communication/clarification.
In any event, my assessment is that the ER’s personalized attack against the UDJP chairperson is unwarranted. I hope the ER would review its stance. Tks.

I know Birtukan is a brave woman but if she does not denounce her words, there is no question that she will be imprisoned lifetime. That is what Woyane means. No peaceful struggle is possible under this regime. So I want her to say whatever Woyane wants her to say and leave the country and fight the regime from abroad. No Ethiopian would want Birtukan or anybody else to go to jail because of any remarks they expressed freely.
But that is the nature of the TPLF government. We know it and above all Birtukan as a poltical activist should know it.
But this is a theatre of Birtukan’s creation. If she goes to jail, this would be her own doing. This has nothing to do with the struggle. Everybody knows the CUD leaders released from a prison (which they shouldn’t be in) because of a pardon paper signed under duress. Ethiopian know the TPLF cooked the pardon saga. So what is the point of her denying it or bother to answer to a question asked by an ignorant or a TPLF agent in the Stockholm public meeting? Either this is a delibrate theatre or a crissis of Birtukan’s creation. This is one of many mistakes done by Birtukan. Going in to prison because of TPLF sponsored signed pardon paper which was in public display by the Tyrannt is utterly idiotic.
Supporters of the UDJ in Diaspora and in Ethiopia should face the reality and act in the best interest of the country. The first thing the UDJ should do is to pressure Birtukan to retract her statment on the pardon paper. The second step will be to replace Birtukan with a competent leader who knows what to speak and do.
If she goes to jail then nobody will do anything to get her released. Because most consider it a childish & stupid mistake.

Bitukan has no option but to face the truth. No one will remain hiding from the hard facts. Yes, they have signed the pardon letter. Yes, they have apologized Woyane. She put herself into the Woyane trap while trying to put a brave face in Sweden. Should she failed to retract her Sweden statement, Woyane will send her back to jail in the coming few days. I don’t want to see her back in jail. She does not deserve prison. The ramification of her going back to prison will not end there. The rest of the UDJ leadership will be left in a position not to defend her. Trying to defend her will put them on the same position. The UDJ leadership is already advising her to retract her statement. Should she failed to retract her statement, UDJ will fall apart and the already simmering internal bickering within the party leadership will come to the open.
After all, the Kinijit debacle is partly the off-spring of the web of lies they have orchestrated on their fellow compatriots. It is pass-time to face the truth; and do a critical evaluation of the path they followed since the May 97 election.

First off, it is not Federal Police’s business to ask her to rectify her comment for it is not criminal thing to speak whatever she wants. We Ethiopians all know that EPRDF is acting kiddish not as our great country’s government. Now EPRDF is so desperate that it will do anything to control and kill any struggle against it for stealing the next election too. One of their strategies is to put pressure on the member of opposition parties. Even though standing by the truth will have a lot of benefit in terms of strengthening our unity, as we all Ethiopians know the behavior of EPRDF, W/zt Birtukan would rather rectify her comment and lead the struggle effectively by staying out of Jail. I am not frightening her. But her contribution by staying out of jail will be much larger than what her contribution would be should she be forced to be in jail.

The party’s and its leader, Birtikan, struggle and commitment to social justice, emancipation and their solid and sound mission are rooted in the Ethiopians historical background and current pressing national needs. Tyrant Zenawi has been doing what he is supposed to do as criminal who should be tried for the systematic killing of several ethnic groups, or religious groups, and an attempt to destroy the nation state, Ethiopia.
It is more frustrating and shocking if Unity party and its leader in particular and all their stakeholders in general fail to understand their enemy and ready to compromise their political ideology and their moral and legal integrity.
We all should re-assure them that we are ready to die with them. They should offer the required leadership now than any other time in history. They should learn from May 2005. If Kiniget declared peaceful resistance or declare disobedience we all know where this barbaric, arrogant, rude and incompetent Weyane would have been.
I would say if Birtukan is going to compromise her stance that would be a disaster.

Out of 135 commentators Rohan said the wright. All the rest of you talking about what may happen to Birtukan. UDJP and Birtukan are not engaged in the genuine peaceful struggle . They no condions set to enter for election. She is touring around the diaspora to persuade her supporters. It sounds like another diversionary tactic of arresting a member of AEUP and raising speculation about the arrest of W/t Birtukan if she does retract.
What wrong with Ethiomedia and Abugida info aking a mountain out of a mole and promoting UDJP mor that it deserves. Are the websites engaed in reporting or making a commentary to attract other commentaries to the exclusion of the other parties, who are facing similar problems with the current regime.

Whatever Birtukan does, I hope we will see a change in the coming new year. Change is not bad, but the question is to what or which direction? I know Abeshas need a change towards forging a UNITARY Ethiopia, with no respect for rights of different nations in the empire. But to their Merdo, the change needed by Oromos is otherwise.
Here is the suggestion from Oromos on the issue how to live in Unity with Abyssinians. The whole message sounds: good GURBITINNAA is better than bad GAABICHAA!
Whenever we read Abeshas crying for unity, we need to ask them: before or after liberty? (the mode of question patients ask their doctors). For us Oromos, Unity at the cost of our national Liberty is unthinkable. But after being liberated, we can discuss the issue if we think the benefit of unity is more than its challenge!
Till now we had two relations, which failed to unie us:
- Bad Gaabichaa (symbol for unitary system till 1991), where Oromos suffered under domination of amharas, and
- Bad Debbalinnet (symbol for federalism from 1991 till now), where Oromos suffered under domination of Tigarus.
Just learning from these two bad experience, here is the priority set up we Oromos want that Abeshas should understand. I think, to put things in priority, we need to live in the future together as follows:
1) in good GAABICHAA, if the marriage is really based on love. As far as I understand, our “marriage” was based on XELEFAA (forced marriage), not on love. That is why the hitherto marriage is rather bad marriage, which definetly will lead to divorce!
2) in good DEBBAALINET, if the “unity” we need is based on free will. As far as I know our hitherto “unity” is a forced unity at gun point, so that it will be lost at gun point!
3) in good GURBITINNAA (symbol for independence longed by oppressed nations), which is better than bad GAABICHAA and bad DEBBAALINET! It is better to live in peace as GOREBET than to fight each other to death by living in one home!
4) If the above three good options fail, the only alternative will be the last: MEGEDAADEL (be devided in clans and kill each other).
It is our all responsibility to avoid this last option and to try to forge one of the first three. I believe the marriage based on love is utopia. Yet optimal solution is UNION based on free will. If these two good options fails, good neighbourhood is better than the bad alternative aka killing each other whereas living in one common home! Can you people crying about YE IMIYE ANDINET agree on this??”

“የዛሬ ሁለት ሺህ አንድ ዓመት አካባቢም እንዲህ ያለ ተመሳሳይ ጥያቄ በእስራኤለ ውስጥ ተነስቶ ነበር። ዛሬም ሰኔና ሰኞ ተገናኝተዋል። እነሆ ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ የዛሬ ሁለት ሺህ አንድ ዓመት አካባቢ ትንሽቷ፣ አልባሌዋ፣ የተናቀችው ቤተልሄም የተጋፈጠችው ጥያቄ ከፊቷ ተደቀነባት። ቃል በቃል አላስታውሰውም። በከፊል ግን እንዲህ ነው። ክርስቶስ የሚወለድ ሰሞን፤ በእውኑ አንቺ የኤፍራታዋ ቤተልሄም ከሌሎች የይሁዳ ነገዶች ታንሻለሽን? ነገር ግን የእስራኤል ንጉስ የሚሆን ካነቺ ይወለዳል አይነት ነገር። ቤተልሄምም አላነሰችም። እንዲያውም ልቃ ተገኘች እንጂ። የክርስቲያኖች ንጉስ፤ የክርስትናቸው ማእዘን የሆነው ክርስቶስ ተወለደባት። ብርቱካን ያ የንግስትነት ቅጽበት አምልጧት ነበር። አሁን ተመልሶ መጥቷል። ሰሞኑን ቴዲ አፍሮንና ሌሎች የህሊና እስረኞችን ልናስብ ላይ ታች እያልን ነው። ቴዲ አፍሮ የብርቱካንን ያህል ስለኢትዮጵያዊያን ተሟግቶ አይደለም። እንዲያውም የተወሰነውን ኢትዮጵያዊ አጀንዳ እኛ ጫንበት እንጂ። ሀሳቡም እቅዱም የነበረው አይመስለኝም። እንዲያ ከሆነ፤ በእውኑ ብርቱካን ከቴዲ አፍሮ፣ ከአጼ ቴዎድሮስስ ቢሆን ታንሳለችን? እስካሁን ታንሳለች። አጼ ቴዎድሮስ ግን የሰሩት የሰሩትን ብቻ ነው። ከዚህ በኋላ ሊጨምሩ የሚችሉት አንድም ነገር የላቸው። እነሆ ብርቱካን ከነሱ ሁሉ የምትበልጥበትና ከነኦውንግ ሳን ሱ ኪ፣ ከነማርቲን ሉተር ኪንግ፣ ከነማንዴላ፣ ከነጋንዲ ተርታ የምትሰለፍበት ቅጽበት መጥቷል። “
ምንድን ነው አቶ አባኪያ የሚሉን? ክርስቶስ እንደገና ከብርቱካን ይወለድ ይሆናልና እሷን እስክትወልድ እንጠብቅ ነው? አልሰሙ እንድሆን ለአቶ አባኪያ የምነግራቸዉ የምስራች ቢኖር ብርቱካን ልጅ ወልዳለች የልጅ አባቷም ዎያኔ ነዉ። ውደተነሳሁበት ቁም ነገር ልመለስና ብርቱካንን ከቴዲ አፍሮ ስናወዳድር አቶ አባኪያ እንዳሉት ሳይሆን ቴዲ ለኢትዮጵያ እርሳቸዉ ከሚያከብሯት ብርቱካን የበለጠ ተሟግቷል የታሰረም በዛዉ ነዉ። ቴዲ በዘፈኖቹ ስለ ኢትዮጵያ አንድነት ለፏል። እነአላሙዲ በገንዘብ ሊገዙት ሲሉ አሻፈረኝ ብሏል፤ አዲስ አበባን ጥሎ በሜሊኒየም በአል ጊዜ ዘር ሳይቆጥር ኢትዮጵያዊ ወገኖቸን ላዝናና ብሎ ጅማ ሄዶ አመት በአሉን ከኦሮሞ ወገኖቻችን ጋር አሳልፏል። የአቶ አባኪያ ብርቱካን በዛን ጊዜ ምን ትሰራ ነበር? ያዲስ አበባን ወጣት ከመንገድ ለዎያኔ አስጨፍጭፋ የሙት ዘመዶቻቸዉን እግዚአብሄር ያጽናችሁ ሳትል ወደ አሜሪካ በመብረር ከአንገቷ ጉንጉን አበባ እየደረደርች ድርጂት በማፍረስ ተሰማርታ የወያኔንና የፈረንጆችን ስራ ታከናዉን ነበር። አቶ አባኪያ እባክዎ ይንገሩን ማነዉ ኢትዮጵያዊዉ? ስለ አጼ ተውድሮስ የጻፉትን ሳነብ ከመሳቅ በቀር ሌላ ማለትም አያስፈልግም ነበር። ለአቶ አባኪያ ትንሽ የምላቸዉ ቢኖር አድኖ የሚበላን አንበሳ የመንደር ትራፊ ወተት ለምና ከምትኖር ድመት ጋር የሚያወዳድር ጤነኛ ሰዉ ባለመሆኑ እራሱን ያስገምታል ነው። አለም ያደነቀዉን መይሳው ካሳ ከሰራው ይልቅ ብርቱካን የስራችዉ ይበልጣል ነዉ የሚሉን? መቸም ይህንን የማወዳደር ቆሻሻ ስራ እኔው ልረከበዉና ነካ ነካ ላድርገዉ። ይህንንም ስላደረግኩ ያጼ ቴዎድሮስን አጽም ይቅርታ እየጠየቅኩ ነዉ። መይሳዉ ካሳ ንጉሶቹ በየቦታዉ የኢትዮጵያን ህዝብ ሲያሰቃዩ አይቶ ሸፍቶ ገበሬዉን አስተባብሮ ኢያንዳንዱን በዝባዥ ዎግቶ አጥቅቶ ኢትዮጵያን አንድ አድርጎ ያስቀመጠልን መሪ ነበር። ለዚህም የመጀመሪያዉ አብዮተኛ መሪ ነው፤ አብዮት ማለት ምን ማለት እንደሆነ ከተረዱት። የርስዎ ብርቱካን ግን ይግረማችሁ ብላ በአማሮች ስም ትግሬዎችን ይቅርታ ጠይቃለች አማሮች ምን እንደበደሉ ግን እስካሁን መልስ አላገኙም። ይህ መከፋፈል እንጅ አንድ ማድረግ አይደለም። አቶ አባኪያ ኢትዮጵያዊዉ ማነዉ? አጼ ቴዎድሮስ መለማመጥ አያዉቁም ነበር፤ በርሳቸዉ ጊዜ በሃገራቸዉ በኢትዮጵያ ቀልድ አይሞከርምም፤ የፈረንጅ አምባሳደር ነኝ ብሎ ወዲያ ወዲህ ማለት አልነበረም፤ ለዛም ነዉ እንግሊዞችን እስር ቤት የጨመሯቸዉ። የኢትዮጵያን ህዝብ ነጻ አዉጭ ነች የሚሉን ወይዘሮ ብርቱካን ግን ውሏቸዉ በየአምባሲዉ ነዉ፤ ምሳም እራትም የሚበሉ ከዛ ነዉ፤ ትዕዛዝ የሚቀበሉም ከዛዉ ነዉ፤ ገንዘብ የሚነዛዉም ከዛዉ ነዉ። አጼ ተዎድሮስ አንኳንና የፈረንጅ መጤ ቄስ ይቅርና ሀገር ቤት የተፈጠሩትን እንኳ ስነ ስራት ያስያዙ ናቸዉ። በሳቸዉ ጊዜ ካቶሊክ ፕሮቴንስታንት እያሉ እየገቡ አገሪቱን የቕኝ ገዝዎች መፈንጫ እንድትሆን አልፈቀዱም፤ ማንም ትርዉ እንዳይል ነዉ ያደረጉት። እንኳንና ለኢትዮጵያ ሱዳንን ሊወር የመጣን አረብ ሁሉ ሲያባርሩ ነዉ የኖሩት። አጼ ቴዎድሮስ ከኢትዮጵያዊነታቸዉም በላይ አፍሪካዊነታቸዉን ተረድተዉ ሌሎችን አገሮች የረዱ ነበሩ። ወይዘሮ ብርቱካን እንኳን የሀገሯን ባህል መጠበቅ ይቅርና መጤ ሐይማኖት ለማስፋፋት ዶላር ተሸክማ የምትቀሰቅስ መታወቂያ የያዘች ሙሉ አባል ናት፤ ያን እንድታስፋፋም ከዉጭ የሚለገሳት ገንዘብ ብዙ ነዉ። አቶ አባኪያ ኢትዮጵያዊዉ ማነዉ? አጼ ቴዎድሮስ ለጠላት እጄን አልሰጥም ብለዉ እራሳቸዉን ሰዉተዉ ኩራትንና ጀግንነትን ያስተማሩን መሪ ናቸዉ። መቸም በዘመኑ የአራዳና የፋራ ፖለቲካ አካሄድ እራሳቸዉን የገደሉ ጤባ ፋራ ስለሆኑ ነዉ እንዳይሉኝ። የርስዎ ብርቱካን ግን አስፈራሩኝ ብላ እስካጃቢዎቿ ትጮሃለች፤ አቤት አራዳነት ያዉም ለማስመሰሉ ማስጠንቀቅያ። አቶ አባኪያ አሁንም መልሼ ልጠይቅዎ፤ ኢትዮጵያዊዉ ማነዉ? ድህነታችን ስለበደለን ፈረንጆቹ እኛኑ በኛዉ እያጠፉን ነዉ። አቶ አባኪያ እባክዎ አያናግሩኝ ሆዴ ባዶ እንዳይቀር እንዴት ተብሎ ነዉ ብርቱካን ከነ አጼ ቴዎድሮስ “የምትበልጥበትና ከነኦውንግ ሳን ሱ ኪ፣ ከነማርቲን ሉተር ኪንግ፣ ከነማንዴላ፣ ከነጋንዲ ተርታ የምትሰለፍበት” እነ አጼ ተዎድሮስ ከነዚህ ከጠቀሱዋቸዉ ሰዎች ያንሳሉ ማለትዎ እኮ ነው፤ ወይ ዘመን፤ ዘመነ ክህደት፤ ዘመነ ባንዳነት። ለነገሩ ሀገር ከተሸጠ ባህላችን ከደቀቀ ሀይማኖታችን ከተነጠቅን እኮ ቆየት ብሏል። አቶ አባኪያ በዘመኑ ነዉ እንጅ በርስዎ እኮ አናዝንም ፤ የወያኔዉ ጳጳስ ነኝ ባዩ አቶ ገ/መድህን ራቁቷን የምትደንስ የፈረንጅ ዘፋኝን የቤተ መቅደስ ጥላ ይዞ ሲያጅብ እኮ ነዉ ወይ ዘመን ያልነዉ። መናፍቃን በነብርቱካን እየተመሩ ኢትዮጵያ ሃይማኖት እስካሁን የላትም እኛን ተከተሉ ይኸዉ ገንዘቡ እያሉ ባህላችን አርክሰዉ የነርሱን የረከሰ ባህል ስያስፋፉ እያየን እኮ ነዉ ወይ ዘመኑ ያልነዉ። እርስዎስ የድርሻወን ይዘዉ ኢትዮጵያ ከብርቱካን ሌላ መሪ አይታ አትዉቅም ሲሉን ምን እንላለን ወይ ዘመኑ ካልሆነ በቀር። አቶ አባኪያ እንደርስዎና እንደ ፈረንጅ አምላኪ መሪዎ ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ ሳይሆን ለንደኛ አይነቱ ኢትዮጵያዊያን ከቴዎድሮስ የበለጠ መሪ የለንም ለውደፊቱም የሚኖር አይመስለንም። ስለዚህ ከመጻፍዎ በፊት ያንቡ፤ ታሪክን ይመርምሩ ዱባና ቅል ስራቸዉ እየቅል ተብሏል በነፍጠኞች ቋንቋ ማለቴ ነዉ። ብርቱካንን ያለ መሰላል ከላይ ለመስቀል ሲሉ ብቻ ጀግኖቻችን ወደታች ፈረንጆችን ወደላይ አድርገዉ ሲያስቀምጡ፤ እርሷንም ያላቅሟ የማትችለዉ ውድድር ዉስጥ እየከተቱ አያሳፍሯት፤ አያስፈሯት፤ ዉድድሩን አትችለዉምና ያቅሟን ያስይዟት ካቅሟ በላይ አይጫኗት።
ምንም የማስምሰል ደባ ቢካሀድብንም ግራም ነፈሰ ቀኝ ወያኔ እዉነተኛ ጠላቱን ለይቶ ያውቃል። የሚያድነዉም፤ የሚገለዉም ብርቱካንን ሳይሆን እዉነተኛ ኢትዮጵያውያንን ለኢትዮጵያ በሀቅ ቆመዉ የሚታገሉትን ነው። ይህም በግልጽ የምናውቀዉ ሀቅ ከፊታችን ተደቅኗል ኢትዮጵያዊያንም እየተመለከቱት ነዉ፤ ይኸዉም ብርቱካን የዎያኔ ጠላት በፍጹም ልትሆን አትችልም፤ አይደለችምም። ይህ ሁሉ ጫጫታ የመጣዉ የብርቱካን ደጋፊ ማነስ ስለታየ ብቻና የሚቀጥለዉ አስመሳይ ምርጫ ባቋራጭ ስለደረሰ ብቻ ነዉ። ለዚያዉም እራሷ የመረጠችዉ ወያኔን በመደገፍ የተሰለፈችበት አላማ ስለሆነ ነዉ፤ ያዉ እንደ ልደቱ አያሌዉ አካሄድ ማለት ነዉ። ብርቱካን የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ የሰጣትን አደራ በልታ የፈረንጅ ቄሶችና የጅ አዙር ቅኝ ገዥዎች የሰጧትን የቤት ስራ ነዉ የምትሰራው። የሚገርመዉ ወያኔ ሀቀኛ ታጋይቱን መሶብወርቅን አስሯል። ታጋይ እስርን አይፈራም ያንንም እያየን ነዉ መሶብዎርቅ በምታምንበት ስራዋ ለህዝብ ብላ ገብታለች። የሚገርመዉ ግን የብርቱካንና አሽከሮቿ መጮህ ነው። አቶ አባኪያ የምጣዱ ሳለ የእንቅቡ ተንጣጣ ሲባል ሰምተዉ ያዉቃሉ ወይስ የነፍጠኛ ቋንቋ ብለዉ ትተዉት ነዉ? እዉነት መቸ ነዉ የምትጎላዉ? ህዝብ መረዳት ያለበት ይህ ሁሉ ጫጫታ ለማስመሰል የተሰራ የወያኔና የነብርቱካን ስራ ነዉ። ያማ ባይሆን ብርቱካን ከአጼ ቴዎድሮስ ትበልጣለች ኢንዲያዉም እየሱሥን ትዎልድልናለች አይነት አባባል መሰለኝ ነገሩ፤ አንባልም ነበር። ምንኛ ቢንቁን ነው እኒህ ወያኔዎች የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ እንደነርሱ የተፋቸዉን ሰወች መልስዉ ሊያበሉት የሚፈልጉት? ይህ ሁሉ ጫጫታ ባሁኑ የጉድ ዘመን ለፈረንጅ ያላጎበደደ፤ ባህሉንም ሆን ሃይማኖቱን እስከነ ሀገሩ ያልሸጠ፤ ያልከዳና ለፍርፋሪ ያላደረ ጀግና የማይባልበት በተቃራኒዉ የሚሰራና በክህደት የተሰማራ የሚከበርበት በመሆኑ ነዉ። እርስዎ እንዲያዉቁት የምፈልገዉ ግን ብርቱካንን በመደገፍዎ መብትዎ የተጠበቀ በመሆኑ ቅሬታ ያለዉ ሰዉ አይኖርም። ነገር ግን ቅሬታዉ በጥያቄ መልክ ከደበላለቁት ላይ ነዉ። ስለዚህ አቶ አባኪያ ለጠየቁት ጥያቄ “በእውኑ ብርቱካን ከቴዲ አፍሮ ታንሳለችን? ከአጼ ቴዎድሮስስ ቢሆን?” መልሱ እንደገና ዱባና ቅል ስራቸዉ እየቅል ተብሏል። በሌላ አነጋገር ደግሞ ጋኖቹ አለቁና ምንቸቶች ጋን ሆኑ ተብሏል፤ በነፍጠኞች ቋንቋ ማለቴ ነዉ።

Okay! Ethiopians, you must direct your undivided attention and focus on the issue presented to you to debate or to have “your say” on should Birtukan retract her statement? as presented by the media.

If anybody wants to make a fair assessment of where UDJP leaders stand on the issues based on who said what, read into the Andinet Gazette of AEUP on the link Debteraw going from Abugida website. There you will see questions posed to them in their conference from the public. They publicly gave responses just to say what the public want to hear.
W/t Birtukan said what the diaspora supporters want to hear to maintain their support. I do not understand why Dr Araya UDJP public relation Officer of UDJP contradict her statement in VOA interview according to one of the commentators. I do not not know how to interpet what his reponse to VOA otherwise.
According to one of the commentators and many othes, UDJP is not following the peacefull route, if that means engaged in peceful strugle rather than armed struggle. It is neither.
Rather UDJP is signed on with the current regime in which W/t Birtukan wrote a letter to Prof. Isaac of the leaders of shimagles with reference to the party’s postition with the government stating “lanfata tegabtenal”.

Practice every day about the pronounsetion of each alpabetes or words like A ..B..C.. thru Z. and after you get done this practice ,go to the second lesson. It is time, however, to end or put fullstop to this discussion as w/t Birtukan has said what she thinks approperiate regarding this matter as shown below.
Should Birtukan retract her statement? is thus no more a relevant issue, while we can continue disucssing her statment and what needs to be done in the future.

Why did the federal police commissioner call her in the first place without order from court? This form of intimidation can happen to any one of us. I am very much encouraged by your change of heart and seeing that Birtukan Midekssa is the best hope for those who would like to see a siginificant role for a centrist democratic party in Ethiopia.
I have made the same assessment after appraising the circumistances.
Even if we have some reservations, we should overlook minor differences in the interests of what is best for our country in the long term.
That means holding hands across the web and globe to defend Birtukan who by all accounts comes across as the most courageous and genuinely for the good of our country.
We should gear up for concrete actions(lobbying, financial supports…) and making sure that Birtukan does not become another forgotten victim of Meles Zenawi’s outlaw repressive regime!
With Barack Obama in the White-House and the world leaning towards conflic resolution, we have a very good opportunity to expose the mercenary regime and to cut it out dry!!

ታህሳስ 14 ቀን 2001 ዓ.ም. ከሰዓት በኋላ በፌደራል ፖሊስ ኮሚሽነሩ ጽ/ቤት ተገኝቼ ማስጠንቀቂያ ሲነገረኝ እና ያው መልዕክት በኢትዮጵያ ቴሌቭዥን ሲተላለፍ ስመለከት ያደረብኝን ስሜት ለመግለጽ ያዳግተኛል።
ምንም እንኳን ይህን ሁኔታ ለመለወጥ፣ ከማውቀውና ከማምነው ነገር ውጭ የምናገረው ነገር ባይኖርም ጉዳዩ በህዝብ ዘንድ ጥያቄዎችን ማጫሩ አልቅረምና በጉዳዩ ላይ ግንዛቤን ለመፍጠር ይቺን ጽሑፍ ለመጻፍ ወስኛለሁ። ምናልባትም የመጨረሻ ቃሌ ይሆናል።
በሽምግልናው ልጀመር። የሽምግልናው መሰረታዊ መንፈስ፣ ሁለቱንም የሚያግባባ ስምምነት አምጥቶ እና የዕርቅን መንፈስ ፈጥሮ የፖለቲካ ሂደቱን ማስቀጠል ነበር። ይህም በመሆኑ ነው ሂደቱ በርካታ ወራትን ሊወስድ የቻለው። በዚህም ውስጥ ምርጫ 1997 ዓ.ም. ተከትሎ የተፈጠረውን ችግር በተመለከተ፣ የሀገር ሽማግሌዎች “አንዱን አጥፊ አንዱን ንጹኅ በማድረግ ሳይሆን እያንዳንዱ ወገን በወቅቱ ለተፈጠረው ችግር ህዝቡን ይቅርታ ጠይቆና እርስ በርሱም ተጠያይቆ በመሰረታዊ ጉዳዮችም ያለውን የፖለቲካዊ አመለካከት ቁርጠኝነትን አረጋግጦ፣ በዕርቅ መንፈስ ወደፊት በጋራ ለመቀጠል” በሚል ዓላማ ዙሪያ የሚያጠነጥኑ ናቸው ያሏቸውን ነጥቦች፣ ለሁለቱም ወገኖች ሲያቀርቡ ሃሳባችንን ሲያለዋውጡና በተቻለም መጠን ለማለዘብም ሲሞክሩ ቆይተዋል።
ከዚህም የተነሳ በመንግሥት ፈቃደኝነት ብቻ ሳይሆን በእኛም ተሳትፎም ጭምር፣ በሀገር ሽማግሌዎች ሲደረግ የነበረው ሽምግልና ሁለቱም ወገኖች ሰጥተውና ተቀብለው የሚያመጡት ማስማሚያ ሃሳብ /Negotiated Deal/ በመድረስ ላይ ያተኮረ ነበር።
በሂደቱ መንግሥትም ለሕገመንግሥታዊ ሥርዓት ያለውን ታማኝነት እንደገና እንደሚያረጋገጥ፣ እና ከ1997 ዓ.ም. ምርጫ ጋር በተያያዘ በተፈጠረው ችግር ጉዳት የደረሰባቸው ዜጎችን እና ቤተሰቦችን ለመካስ ተስማምቶ የነበረ ቢሆንም፤ ውይይቱ እየቀጠለ ሲሄድና የፍርድ ቤቱ ክርክር ወደ ብይን በሚቃረብበት ወቅት በሽማግሌዎች አስተባባሪ አማካይነት አንድ አሳዛኝ ሁኔታ ተነገረን።
ይኸውም ሌላኛው ወገን፣ እኛ ታሳሪዎች ከህዝብ እና ከመንግሥት ይቅርታ ከምንጠይቅበት ነጥብ ውጭ በተለይም መንግሥትን የሚመለከቱ የወጡት ነጥቦች ላይ መስማማት አይፈልግም የሚል ነበር። ይሁን እንጂ በዚህም ደረጃ የውይይቱ አቅጣጫ የተመሰረተበት የዕርቅ መንፈስ አልተቀየረም ነበር። ስለሆነም ሽማግሌዎቹ ሌሎች የመግባቢያ ሃሳቦችን ወደኋላ የተተወ ቢሆንም በሀገራችን ባህል ይቅር በመባባል መንፈስ የተቃኘውን ያንን ሰነድ ብንፈርም ጉዳዩ ባለበት ደረጃ እንደሚቆም ፋይሉም እንደሚዘጋ ገልጠው ሽምግልናውን ገፉበት። ቃል በቃል በመግልጽም ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ “ይህ ሰነድ ከተፈረመ የሥራ አስፈጻሚ ሥልጣኔን ተጠቅሜ ክሱ እንዲቋረጥ አደርጋለሁ” እንዳሉ አረጋገጡልን።
ከዚህ ጋር በተያያዘም “በሀገሪቷ ውስጥ ከቅንጅት ጉዳይ ጋር በተያያዘ የታሰሩ እስረኞች በሙሉ ያለምንም ቅድመ ሁኔታ እንደሚፈቱ በመንግሥት እና በቀድሞው ቅንጅት መሪዎች መሃከልም የፖለቲካ ውይይት በቀጥታ እንደሚጀመር የፓርቲው መሪዎች ያለምንም ገደብ የፓርቲውን ሥራ እንደሚቀጥሉ” ስምምነት ላይ ተደርሶ ነበር።
በተጨማሪም ይህ ሰነድ በማንኛውም መንገድ ለምንም አይነት የፕሮፖጋንዳ ጥቅም በሁለቱም ወገኖች እንደማይውልና ሰነዱም የሚፈረመው ለሽማግሌዎች እንደሆነ፣ ሽማግሌዎችም በዚያ ላይ ተመስርተው የራሳቸውን ደብዳቤ ለጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ እንደሚጽፉ በሽማግሌዎች የተረጋገጠ መሆኑ ታሳቢ ሆኖ ሰነዱ ተፈረሟል።
በርግጥም በዚህ ሰነድ ላይ እኔም እንደ አንድ ታሳሪ መፈረሜን ክጄ አላውቅም። በሽማግሌቹም የዕርቅ መግባቢያ መንፈስ መሰረት፣ በፖለቲካ የተቀሰቀሰውን ክስ ፖለቲካዊ እልባት ለመስጠት በማሰብ ለዕርቅ ስል ከሌሎች የፓርቲው መሪዎች ጋር ተስማምቼ ሰኔ 11 ቀን 1999 ዓ.ም. በተጻፈው ሰነድ በሽማግሌዎች አማካኝነት መንግሥትንና ህዝብን ይቅርታ ጠይቄአለሁ። ይህ ብፈልግም ልለውጠው የማልችለው ሐቅ ነው።
ከዚህ ስምምነት በኋላ ይጠበቅ የነበረው፣ ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ ለሽማግሌዎቹ አረጋግጠው በሰጡት ቃል መሰረት የክሱ መቋረጠና የፋይሎ መዘጋት ቢሆንም ሂደቱ ሌላ አዲስ መልክ ያዘ። ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ የሚመሩት የዓቃቤ ሕግ መስሪያ ቤት ክሱን ሳያቋርጥ ቀረ። ይልቁንም ተከሳሳቹ ዕድሜ ልክ ቅጣታችንን ተቀበልን። ከዚህ በኋላ እንግዲህ ታሪኩ በእኛ ስምምነት ሳይሆን በጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ ፈቃድ የተቃኘ ነው። ጉዳዩም ብሎ ብሎ የሀገሪቱ ፕሬዝዳንት ለታሳሪዎች በሰጡት ይቅርታ እኛ ከእስር በመፈታታችን ተገባደደ።
እንግዲህ እንዲህ ያለ የተዥጎረጎረ መልክ ያለውን ውስብስብ ሂደት በመደበኛው የሕግ የይቅርታ አቀራረብ ስነሥርዓት እንደቀረበም በዛውም አግባብ እንደተደመደመ ጉዳይ ብቻ ለማየት መሞከር አንድም እራስን ማሞኘት ነው፤ ሌላም አለማወቅ።
አንድ ተከሳሽ በሕጉ መሰረት የይቅርታ ጥያቄ ማቅረብ ያለበት፣ ለጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ ሳይሆን ለይቅርታ ቦርድ ነው። በኛ ጉዳይ ለሀገር ሽማግሌዎች የፈረምነውን ሰነድ ለይቅርታው ቦርድ ያቀረቡት ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ ናቸው። ይቅርታውንም የጠየቁት እርሳቸው ናቸው ብሎም መከራከር ይቻላል። ሆኖም ግን በሕጉ አግባብ የይቅርታ ጥያቄ ማቅረብ የሚችለው ባለጉዳዩ፣ ጠበቃው ወይም ቤተዘመድ እንጂ የሀገሪቱ ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር አይደለም።
ጥያቄው መቅረብ የሚችለውም በጉዳዩ ፍርድ ቤት ፍርዱን እና ቅጣቱን አጠናቅቆ ከወሰነ በኋላ እንደሆነ በሕጉ ተመላክቷል። በእኛ ጉዳይ ከመነሻው ጉዳዩን የየቅርታ /Pardon/ የመጨረስ ስምምነት ስላልነበረን ለሽማግሌዎች የተፈረመው ሰነድ የተፈረመው ፍርድ ቤት በጉዳዩ የቅጣት ውሳኔ ከመስጠቱ በፊት ነው።
ስለዚህ ከዚህ እውነታ በመነሳት በዚሁ በሕግ በተሰመረ አግባብ የይቀርታ ጥያቄ አላቀረብኩም። ሆኖም ግን በመጨረሻ በፕሬዝዳንቱ ለተሰጠው ይቅርታ ጥያቄ መሰረት የሆነውን የሀገር ሽማግሌዎች ለዕርቅ ሲሉ አግባብተው ሰኔ 15 ቀን 1999 ዓ.ም. ያስፈረሙንን ሰነድ ከነይዘቱ አልካድኩም ብሎ መናገሩ የቱ ላይ ነው ስህተቱ? የቱ ላይ ነው ወንጀሉ?
በውጭ ሀገር በጉዳዩ የተናገርኩትም ይህንኑ የሚገልጽ እና የሚያብራራ እንጂ ሌላ ምንም የተለየ ይዘት አልነበረውም። ምናልባት የተናገርኩት አላግባብ ተተረጉሞ ሊሆን እንደሚችል እገምታለሁ።
ይህ የእኔ አንጋገር የተዛባ ነው ቢባልስ ፖሊስ ጣቢያ በመጥሪያም ያለመጥሪያም ለመመላለስ ያበቃል? በፍፁም ያስጠይቃል ቢባልስ በሀገሪቱ ፕሬዝዳንት የተሰጠን ይቅርታ የሚያስነሳው እንዴት ይሆን? ይቅርታን የሚያስነሳ ቢሆን ፌደራል ፖሊስ በየትኛው ሕጋዊ ሥልጣኑ ነው በጉዳዩ ምርመራ የሚያደርገው? ማስጠንቀቂያስ የሚሰጠው?
ታህሳስ 1 ቀን 2001 ዓ.ም. የፌደራል ፖሊስ ኮሚሽነር የወረዳ 12 ፖሊሲ አባላት የሆኑ ሁለት ፖሊሶችን ቤቴ በመላክ ቢሯቸው ድረስ እንድመጣ ሲጠሩኝ ስለ ፓርቲያችን ስለአንድነት ለመወያየት ሊሆን ይችላል በሚል በጽ/ቤታቸው ተገኝኔ የተጠራሁት ከይቅርታው ጋር በተያያዘ መሆኑ ሲነገረኝ መጀመሪያ የጠይኩት ጥያቄ “ፖሊስ በዚህ ጉዳይ ላይ ምን ሥልጣን አለው?” የሚል ነበር። ምላሾቹ ግን በመነደቅ ፈገግታ የታጀበ “ይሄ እኮ የአካዳሚ ውይይት አይደለም፤ እንዲሁ አይነቱ ጥያቄ ብትተይ ይሻላል” የሚል ነበር። ለእነርሱ ያስፈገጋቸው፣ ያስገረማቸው ጉዳይ ግን እኔን ሁሌም የምኖርለት፣ የምቆምለት፣ እንዳንዴም የምታሰርበት እና የምፈታለት ታላቅ ቁም ነገር ነው። የሕግ የበላይነት ወይም ሕገመንግሥታዊነት።
ሕገወጥነትን፣ ማናለብኝነትን መቼም አልለምደውም፤ አልተባበረውም። ስለዚህ ነው ታህሳስ 15 ቀን 2001 ዓ.ም. ፖሊስ ኮሚሽነሩ በድጋሚ ያለ ሕጋዊ መጥሪያ በመልዕክተኛ ወደ ቢሯቸው ሲጠሩኝ በወቅቱ ሳልሄድ የቀረሁት። በዕለቱ ከሰዓት በኋላ የሕግ መጥሪያ በደረሰኝ ጊዜ ወደ ቢሯቸው ለመሄድ ደቂቃም አላጠፋሁም። በኮሚሽነሩ ቢሮ ስደርስ የጠበቀኝና መጥሪያው የሚገልፀው ለየቅል ቢሆንም።
ኮሚሽነሩ በላኩልኝ መጥሪያ ላይ እንደተጠቀሰው ጥያቄ ሳይሆን ያቀረቡልኝ መመሪያ ነክ ማስፈራሪያ ነበር። ስዊድን የሰጠሽውን ቃል በሦስት ቀን ውስጥ ካላስተባበልሽ መንግሥት ይቅርታውን አንስቶ እስር ቤት ይከተልሻል የሚል።
“ይቅርታውን ማንሳት የሚችሉት እኮ የሀገሪቱ ርዕሰ ብሔር እንጂ እርስዎ መንግሥት የሚሉት የሥራ አስፈጻሚ አካል አይደለም። ለዛውም እርሱም ቢሆን ሥርዓት አለው። የ”ይቀርታ ይነሳ” አቤቱታ ቀርቦ፣ በ20 ቀናት ውስጥ ለባለጉዳዩ ደርሶ፣ ቦርዱ ካመነበት ጥያቄው ለፕሬዝዳንቱ ቀርቦ፣ ያኔ ይቀርታው ሊነሳ ይችላል …” እያልኩ ለኮሚሽነሩ ላስረዳቸው አስቤ ነበር፤ አላደረኩትም። ንግግራቸውን መጨረሳቸውን አረጋግጬ ያለ ምንም ቃል ቢሯቸውን ጥዬ ወጣሁኝ።
በእኔ እምነት ይሄ ሁሉ ከሕግ የወጣ ዛቻና ማስፈራሪያ እየደረሰብን ያለው ስለ ቃላት ጨዋታ ወይም ስለ ተዛባ እውነት ወይም ስለተጣሰ ሕግ አይመስለኝም። መልዕክቱ ግልጽ ነው። ለእኔ ብቻ ሳይሆን ለሁሉም ሠላማዊ ታጋዮች። “በሠላማዊና ሕጋዊ ማዕቀፍ ውስጥ የፖለቲካ ትግል ማድረግ የሚቻለው በሕገ መንግሥቱ በተሰመረው መስመር ሳይሆን፤ ገዢው አካል ወይም ግለሰቦች በፈቀዱት ብቻ ነው” የሚል ነው። ለዚህም ደግሞ እሺ ወይንም “አዎ” ማለት ለእኔ እጅግ ከባድ ነው።

Never flinch. If we flinch when the going gets tough, we’ll never survive this.
