EMF (23 December 2008) Birtukan Mideksa is warned by Federal police today to apologize the Meles Zenawi government for a speech she made in Sweden, government controlled ETV reported. Birtukan is given three days time to make the apology. If she fails to do so she will face life imprisonment, according to ETV.
UDJ/Andinet party chairwoman Ms. Birtukan Midekssa is released after hours of arrest on Tuesday morning by Meles Zenawi’s federal agents.
Birtukan was called on today again by the notorious Federal police for further interrogations on the speech she gave in Sweden. On Monday, UDJ party has backed Birtukan’s stand that Kinijit Leaders did not ask Meles Zenawi an apology as a condition for getting out of jail.
The UDJ had issued a press release on the previous interrogation warning the police not to interfere in politics.
EMF called Ms. Birtukan Mideksa this afternoon, who said I will not give any comment on this issue at this moment.

The woyanne tactic of harassing their loyal opposition is old, not new. We remember that Lidetu was arrested and jailed in 2001. He was also harassed after the 2005 elections and able to gain some public sympathy.
The woyannes know that the credibility and support of the new loyal party, UDJP is dwindling and the party may lose its relevance sooner. So they are now engaged in their usual old tactic of harassing Birtukan who has apologized to the woyannes in public and has been rejected by the genuine opposition forces. The objective of the woyanne harassment of Ms. Birtukan, is to deceive the Ethiopian public to accept and embrace her as the leader of a genuine and strong opposition party. When I read some of the comments made above, I easily find some to be those of the aagents and supporters of the woyanne regime. Typical of their tactic,
is to try to divert attention from the main issues, like by insulting other opposition figures and parties who have nothing to do with the arrest or harassment of Ms. Birtukan. The woyanne elemenst use every chance to sow confusions and discord among the opposition by posing as the supporters of one and attacking the others. This is what the woyanne hirelings using the false names Berhe and Adam (it appears to be one and the same person) are doing in this free medium. On the otherhand the smaller group of Kestadamena has to split itself from Kinijit, not the other way around. The old Kinijit had to go to court to regain its name and emblem and the dissident party did not. The old Kinijit reorganized AEUP along with the members of the other parties and organizes and engages in a genuine peacefull struggle with the 8-points as its precondition for election. UDJP merging with the dissident group of Ato Temesgen Zewde of the loyalist segement of kinijit is now in prepation for election in 2010 without the 8-point preconditon. Latest retraction on that their entry into the election is not determined yet according to Dr. Yacob. While they seem to have no agenda for peaceful struggle they seem to be strong on campainig for election and gathering funds and convince the diaspora as credible and formidable alternative . Alternative to what, it is hard to fathom. Since UDJP is on a short leash, it is no wonder they do not get into trouble whether the arrest is a pretense or not.
Some of the genuine opposition party membembers have been arrested when they had a demonstration through several parts of Addis Abeba, that is not reported at Abugidainfo.
Now a conflict has emerged within the executive body of UDJP. UDJP is not allowed to forge relationship with armed struggle, lest it will be in trouble. Through its leadership it has openly condemned armed struggle of Ginbot 7, rather than endorsing it.
So much for freedom of assocaition, but there is no objection for UDJP to associate with the like of Dr. Negasso , Ato Siye and Prof Beyene and so much for freedom of speech. If they want to assert those freedoms, they should be on the other side engaed in a genuine peaceful struggle with repect to the national interest. As of now UDJP is taking about it through it media outlets and temporary detention of their leaders but not doing it.

I think this people have gone to complete madness. They are provoking the UDJ which indicates that they are still afraid of it. I believe they are much afraid of the determinaton of Birtukan and her acceptance by the Ethiopian people. Now those of you who insisted on peaceful struggle should learn that making peaceful struggle in Ethiopia is ever to be realised. It is now without any reasonable doubt that peaceful struggle never works. Every one of us should carry k47 and start the struggle.
I advise Birtukan to keep her words. She has to argue that the shemagles have to intercede to clarify the confusion. As I understood the agreement was that woyane shouldn’t make the agreement public, but it broke its words and did it. Birtukan must express that it was woyane who broke its words. The shemaglies must come out and speak the truth, other wise all the diaspora community must come out and protest these so called shemagles. We must disgrace Efrem Issac if he doesn’t tell the truth. He claims that he is a religious man, but he fears to tell the truth. He is a showy man, and wants to secure for his retirment. Please let’s denigrate this man, unless he dares to speak the truth. Bertukan must tell the truth and face what may come.

I do not think the struggle to unseat this regime could be imprisoned by putting prominent leaders in jail. I am hopeful that the younger generation in most parts of Ethiopia is always a headache to Woyane bullshits, thanks to the last elections and the shortsighted divide-rule politics by the block-headed agazis. As said, 70 million Ethiopians are ready mentally, socially, politically to fight —Meles will gain every pain till his death and he will die restlessly. So, the people is more advanced and any one ethiopian loving his country can lead the struggle. But, Bertukan will win ultimately and vomiting Woyanes will be silenced.

How can a person with his right mind be doubtful about the brutal regime of Meles Zenawi that has been created for the very evil mission of destroying Ethiopia and Ethiopians, has lived up to its dirty objective, has come to power by bloody means, has killed innocent people, including kids in front of their parents and parents in front of their children, etc..
If we are mindful of all these terrible experiences, the intimidation w/t Bertukan and other UDJ leaders is not surprising.The question of asking for an apology is not surprising too.

My advice to Mrs. Birtukan, Apologize for meles kzenawi and avoid that rat infested lousy jail. When the dust settles get out of the country quitely and join G7. Everyone was telling you about the danger of dealing with meles kezenawi face to face.
Just leave ethiopia for the tigrays for a while and come join G7 and lets spark the struggle G7 style. I promise u, if u do so Mrs Birtukan victory wont be far!
