07 December 2008 (EMF) - Former member of Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) leadership Aba Biya Aba Jobir, expressed his satisfaction and deep excitement over what he saw in Oromia, in the face of ever worsening human right abuses witnessed by human rights groups. In an interview on government controlled ETV-Amharic service yesterday, Aba Biya said the Oromo people are now getting appropriate answer and armed struggle is no more an effective option to bring about change in Ethiopia.
EMF has reported earlier that a secret meeting was held from 19-21 September 2008 in The Hague, Netherlands between elder’s committee led by Prof. Ephrem Isaac and old folks of OLF leadership, including Lencho Leta, Dima Nego and Aba Biya Aba Jobir.
Aba Biya, who served as Head of OLF’s Foreign Affairs in Washington said encouraging situation prevailing in the country is totally different from what one assumes from outside while realities attest to the contrary.
Two Oromo opposition parties in the TPLF dominated parliament, The Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement (OFDM) and the Oromo Peoples Congress party are confirming the mass arrest of opposition members and Oromo nationals in different town of Ormiya region mainly in the capital, Addis Ababa.
Aba Biya talks about his satisfactions while the regime shutdown Oromo TV, the decision that left some 60 Oromo journalist jobless. His satisfaction came amid arbitrarily arrested 94 Oromo nationals in different towns of Ormiya region, mainly in the capital Addis Ababa, tortured to the level of disability.

Why should it matter that a person who once happen to be a leader of OLF went to Ethiopia and made a supportive remarks about the current administration of EPRDF? The problem with Ethiopian politics is that personalities are given much weight that the causes or the principles of the ’struggle’. EPRDF know this very problem and takes it to its advantage to dismantle every opponent that appears to exert a challenge to EPRDF’s domination of the Ethiopian politics. The same has happended with CUD. It is not bad that people get inspired by strong personalities, but unfortunately all such individuals end up to be just human beings with their own weakeness and selifishness.

This is the beauty of politics. In politics there are heroes who live for ideals, renegades who want to seize the opportunity, and the mehalsefaris, who don’t know where to go. Ababiya, is one of those mehalsefaries who have lost his compas or exchnged it for money. We know Oromia. Oromia of today is the same as Oromia of the Menilik times. Menilik did fine for the Oromo people than any ruler in Ethiopia. Ababiya knows this truth.and he wants to deny it now. How can a rational mind think that Oromia of today is better than Oromia of past. This is rubbish. If Biya was the foreign represenative of OLF, now it is possible to surmise something about the rest of the OLF leadeship and why they failed to bring any change to their own people. OLF wants to travel two roads at a time, but one can’t travel more tha one at a time.The first road is taken by the woyane, there is another road not taken, the road of G7. Biya decided to walk on the taken road, but it will lead him to the valley of death and corruption. That is Meles’ road. He was offered to join the G7 road and failed to seize it, and he dropped his best opportunity in his life. We advise the rest of the members to take the G7 road, which ardous and full ofups and downs, but the real road that will lead us to freedom and prosperty.

Aba Biya can not represent the oromo people, he is a single person that used to be an official in OLF and had been tried to damge the party since he is one of ex-olf officials that wants to gain and satisfy his own personal interest.

My concern is the attempt of EMF to magnify issues of Oromo politics to the direction that they would like to present. On this case:
1) It is the TPLF media outlet report that purports an interview with Aba Biya. How credible is it?
2) Does Aba Biya of today represent the view of the Oromo people at this stage? How many Amhara political opportunists have betrayed their people for their self interest? Either EMF is such a bunch of people who have no clue about Oromo politics or a cunning conniving wolves wating to devour that Oromo nationalism.
3) It is better to understand that Oromo nationalism is much more than one person so that you can present your narratives in a better light.

1. The Reporter/Amare Aregawi makes reference to General Kemal as if he were within the OLF in 2004. Wrong!
The Reporter deliberately states that the Lencho Bati group was the ‘old guard’ that objected reform. Factually wrong! as this is a new group and the basis of the split within the OLF is the Lencho Bati(new generation’s quest for democratization even by OLF’s own admission/statement from Asmara!
2: Walta’s reported summary is the usual ‘ I wrote for you’ Nazi style distortion!

This remark by the ex-leader is a prelude to the reconcilliation process that is going by the Oromo elders, I belive, whether that leads to peace and democracy is hard to tell. At the very least the peace part will prevail if the armed struggle ceases, but any negotiatons for liberation/scession under the current regime does not seem practical. The best alternative is to abandon fighting for lberating one one ehnic group from iself, to fight to liberate all Ethiopians from dictatorial regime to esablish a truly democratic government whcih respects individual freedom and equality of all ethnic groups. In a democratic process ethnic politics is dead on arrival to govern Ethiopians.

To give you another an example , the only reason 2005 election resistance and massacre was due to the dissatisfaction of Ethiopians with Ethnic ruling. These resistance was for democratic change regardless who will is leading the county after election. The problem i see now is people who had a chance to get on the stage during 2005 massacre and some who went to jail after wards act as if the resistance was their creation. Take for example Hailu shawel, Proff mesfin, they have nothing to do with creation of resistance, TPLF put them in jail because Meles cant put all the people of Addis in Jail. All opposition groups leaders or some recognized Ethiopians has to be blamed for out side world. But they took it for real as if the are the true resistance of Ethiopia and want to decide how the struglle should go forward. They have no idea what kind of economic policy is favourable for futur Ethiopia, they just want to get in to(4) $ killo first.

Why not we talk the possible implication of EPRDF willingness to work with OLF people right this time. Do you think there will be possibility of handing over power to some Oromo elites who worship woyane using the next election? ዋናው ችግር ሰላማዊውን የተቃውሞ ትግል ማጥላላት መቀጠላቸው ነው:: በእድሜም በትምህርትም በትግል ልምድም የላቁ ሰዎች በብዛት ያሉበትን እንቅስቅሴ ማንቋሽሽ አጧጡፈዋል:: ድርጊቱ ለብዙ አመታት የተካሄደ ቢሆንም አሁን ተራ ዱርዬውም ተቅላቅሎታል::ይሄ በጅጉ ያሳዝናል:: እዚህ ላይ እነዚህ ሰዎች የወያኔን ፍርፋሪና ርህራሄ እንደሚለምኑ አድርጎ ማቅረብን እንደ ምሳሌ ሊጠቀስ ይችላል:: ይበልጥ የሚያናድደው ግን የሰላማዊው ትግል የሚተማመንበትን ምርጫ እንደያዋጣ በመግለጽ ህዝቡ እንዳይሳተፍበት እናደርጋለን ማለታቸው ነው:: ይሄ ሰላማዊውን ትግል ጠልፎ መጣል ይባላል:: አይደለም ካሉ ያስረዱን::
አንዳንዶች እንደሚሉት ሳይሆን ሰላማዊው ትግልና የትጥቅ ትግል ተደጋጋፊ አይደሉም:: እንዲያውም ተቃራኒ ናቸው:: በኣነዚህ ሰዎች አመራር ሰላማዊው ትግል እንደሚያሽንፍ ጥርጣሬ የለንም:: ጊዜ ቢወስድም እንደሚሳካ እናውቃለን:: መሳካት ብቻ ሳይሆን ስልጣን ከወያኔ ሲቀሙ ምን እንደሚሰሩ እናውቃለን:: የትጥቅ ትግል ልናካሂድ ነው የሚሉት ግን ምን ሊሰሩ እንዳሰቡ አይነግሩንም:: የሸግግር መንግስት ይኖራል ብለው ያቆማሉ:: ያ መንግስት ምን እንደሆነ መናገር አይችሉም:: ምክንያቱም ምን እንደሆነ እነርሱም አያውቁትም:: ያ ወያኔ ከወደቀ በኋላ የምንነጋገርበት ጉዳይ ነው ይሉናል:: ታዲያ የሚያቆመው የሽግግር መንግስት ምን እንደሆነ ለማናውቀው ጦርነት ነው ቁሳቁስና ገንዘብ የምንሰጠው? አሁን ማን ይሙት ውጭ ሃገር ያለው ሰው ውጤቱ ምን እንደሆነ ለማይታወቅ ጦርነት ያዋጣል? አይመስለንም::
ወደ አባ ቢያ ሰንመለስ ሰውየው ይመሩት የነበረው OLF ድርጅት አሁን ግንቦት 7 አደርገዋለሁ ከሚለው የተለየ አላደረገም:: የኦሮሞ ህዝብ ለኦሮሞ ሰላማዊ ተቃዋሚ ድርጅቶች (OFDP ና ONC) አባል እንዳይሆን - ድጋፍም ሆነ ድምጽ እንዳይሰጥ - ይቀሰቅሳሉ:: ግን አልተሳካላችሀውም:: ወደፊትም አይሳካለትም:: በተመሳሳይ ሁኔታ ግንቦት 7 ም ህዝቡን በምርጫ ድምጽ አትስጥ ቢልው አይሳካለትም::

በላይ ፈንታ….አንተ ማን ሆንክና ነው የምትጠይቀው? እራስህ ልብ ብትገዛ ይሻልሃል:: ለ 97 ቱ ምርጫ የት ነበርክ ?ወይስ የሚስትህ ቀሚስ ሁኔታዎችን እንዳታይ ከልሎህ ነበር? ደግሞ ስለምርጫ ማውራትህ..ትንሽ ፍርፋሪ ተጣለልህ እንዴ ለልጆችህ ማሳደጊያ? ምንም የተቃዋሚ ድርጅት ነን ባይ አገሩ ግብቶ ነጻ የሆነ ፖለቲካ አራምዶ ሰላማዊ በሆነ መንገድ ስልጣን ቢይዝ የሚጠላ የለም ::አሁን ያለው አሰራር ለዚህ ያመቻል ወይ? ምርጫ ቦርዱ ማን ነው? ገና ካሁኑ ለወደፊት የሚያስቀምጡትን ሰው እየመለመሉ አይደለም ወይ?ስለዚህ ስለምን ምርጫ ነው የምታወራው?ለምን አላዋቂ ሳሚ ትሆናለህ?አባቢያ ወይም አለሊያ የተባለው ሰውዬ ከድርጅቱ ስላባረሩት ይሆናል መግቢያ አጥቶ አገሩ የገባው::ወይም የተለየ ጥቅማ ጥቅም ተሰጥቶት ሊሆን ይችላል እንጂ ይህን ሁሉ አመት ጥላቻን ሲሰብክ ሲገድልና ሲያስገድል የነበረ ሰው ዘው ብሎ በአንድ ጊዜ አይገባም::ቢገባም ተይዞ ለፍርድ መቅረብ አለበት እንጂ ገና ለገና ወያኔ መሃሪ ነው ተብሎ ለሌሎቹ ተቃዋሚዎች ለማሳየት ድርጅቱን ወክሎ ለ ይስሙላ ለሚደረገው ምርጫ መታጨት የለበትም::በቀላሉ የበደኖውን እልቂት ልብ ይልዋል:: ለ አገርህ ሳይሆን ለ ወያኔ በ ማስታወክህ ሊሸልሙህ ይገባል:: 30 አመት ሲወጋና ሲጨፈጭፍ የነበረ ተስፋ የቆረጠ አዛውንት አገሩ ገባ ብለህ ግንቦት 7 ከዚህ ትምህርት ይውሰድ ማለትህ ከ አንድ አረጋዊ ከሆነ ሰው የማይጠበቅ ነው:: ይልቁንስ አንተው ትምህርት ውሰድ::ጥቅማ ጥቅም ለሰጠህ ሰው ሁሉ አታፈንድድ::አባኪያ ሌላ እድሉን ሄዶ ይሞክር ::የመጀመሪያው ጥረቱ አልተሳካለትም:: አንተም አልተሳካልህም::የ ጻፍከውን ዲስኩር መልስና ዋጠው:: ጭንቅላትህ ውስጥም አታስቀምጠው; ወደ እዳሪ ፍላሽ አርገው….ጠባብ የጊዜው በልቶ አዳሪ እዳሪ ..

Abo Biya Abojobir is the one of the Sons of Abo Jobir of Jimma. He graduated from the Addis Ababa University Law School and later became a High Court judge. Among the legal community of proffessionals he was little known of his profession but renowned of being a womanizer and a drunkard. He was blanking out and used to find himself in a police station on crew hours at times of the Derg era.
Now he later joined OLF for reasons that he will represent the monarchy of Jimma and later lived in Washington DC. These who live in DC they know him better.
However as a member of the OLF and an insider the deflection of Aba Biya does not affect our struggle. He joined us and he left us. That is it. He adds nothing and he takes nothing from us.
For sure Aba Biya wants to go home and possibly work as a woyanne puppet. He was home sick. Going home was his objective. His objectives of joining OPDO has nothing to do with the OLF. And OLF has nothing to do with him.

አባቢያ የተሳሳተ መንገድ የተከተሉ ዪመስለኛል: ከአቶ መለስ ጋር እዚያው ያልሞተ ፓርላማ ውስጥ የነበሩት እነ ዶክተር መራራ ጉዲናና አቶ ቡልቻ ደመቅሳ ከነሱም ሌላ ፕሬዚደንት የነብሩት ዶክተር ነጋሶ ጊዳዳ መለስ አገር ሊያጠፋ ነው የኦሮሞን ህዝብ እየበደለ ነው እያሉ አባ ቢያ ትላንት ከውጭ አገር ገብተው እሄ ተፈጽምዋል እሄ ተሻሽልዋል እያሉ ለመቀላመድ ምን አስቸኮላቸው?አሁን ማን ይሙት የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ ይቺን ይቺን እንክዋን ጠንቅቆ የማያውቅ መሰላቸው?ደግሞስ ከኦሮሚያ ውጭ አዲሳበባን ጨምሮ ያለውን ችግር ማጤን እንዴት ያቅታል?ያልታደለች አገር ነች ለብዙ ነገር የምንጠብቃቸው ሰዎች እንዲህ ከአመድ ላይ ሲንከባለሉ ማየት ልብ ያደማል:በርግጥ መለስ የከፋ ኦሮሞችን በተለይ የነ አባቢያ ዘመዶችን ሃብት በሃብት እንዲሆኑ ነጻ መሬትም እንዲሰጣቸው ከምርጫው ማግስት ጀምሮ እያደረገ ያለውን እናውቃለን ሆኖ መለስ የወዲ አስረስን መሬት ከአድዎ አምጥቶ አይደለም የሰጣቸው ደግሞም መደለል አልነበረባቸውም:: ለማንኛውም ይህ ደግ ህዝብ የፈለገውን ያህል ተስፋ አስቆራጭ ሁኔታዎች ቢፈራረቁበትም አንድ ቀን ሰላምና ዲሞክራሲን ይጎናጸፋል ጥጋበኛ ወያኔዎችም እንደዚህ ያዙን ልቀቁን እንዳሉ አይቀጥሉም አድርባዮችም ሙሉ በሙሉ ያጠለቁት ጭንብል ይገፈፋል የህዝብ ልጆች ከየአቅጣጫው ተሰባስበው ተደጋግፈውና ተቻችለው ፋሺስታዊውን እባጭ ያፈርጡታል ይህ ደግሞ አይቀሬ ነው::

I believe the Liberation movement was exacsrbated at the height of libration movements of EPLF and TPLF, where the dominating agenda was oppression of the nationalities, as opposed to the struggle for class struggle for economic freedom held possibly by EPRP and other movements based mainly reforming the land tenure system, economic hardship due to inflation. To add insult to injury, creating a libration movement, TPLF when it came to power with its now teletafi parties created ethnic fedralism instead of federalism of the states with the rights of scessionism in order to divide and rule and disintegrate Ethiopia into 9 feudal kingdoms, and not even the Amahara Killil is governed by its own ethnic group, nor are they independent of the control of TPLF, which the rulers in the past put together.
The first pannel discussion over television, before the deposition of Emperor Hailesellassie, where a proposal was submitted to him to form a constitutional monarchy to which he agreed, with a notable remark. A ministerial cabinet was quickly assembled. And in that discussion there was an opposition to the idea, saying “gulicha bikeyaer wotu aytafitim”. That idea of socialistic revolution prevailed over what would have been a reform and/or democratic revolution to maintain peace and stability in the nation, capable of crushing the movements for liberation by EPLF and later by TPLF, diplomatically and militarily.
Using the freedom of the individuals to protest engage the government in a democratic revolution to bring about changes in land reform, which was the concern of all farmers with private ownership of the land as a means of production, and the formation of strong labour unions could have enhanced the pay and working condions of blue collar workers.
The misguided elites would not to confuse with the public and the liberation movements would have misled the public with strange ideology forein to Ethiopia only to waste human lives and resources to implement.
That was then, what is important now for Ethiopians, is to abandon ethnic politics for what it is worth and concentrate on class struggle between the haves and have not and between oppressive and divisive government and the population at large in a peacefull struggle of a democratic revolution.

Biri has answered the question by bringing up the website on Ababiyas interview with reporter, that oppression was centered around land reform and econoc well being of the different ethnic groups, but not limited to the oromos. It seems it has nothing to do with Scessenist ideology with that stationed in Eritrea and waging war against the regime.
I did not make the above two comments mentioning a name like Aba mella. Somebody, who is incapable contesting the turn of of events in the previous commentary, is black mailing me by throwing comments about an individual that is not even participating in the dialogue. Pathetic and irrevalevant to the central points of the dialogue.
