By VOA News - 30 September 2008 – Ethiopia is urging the U.N. Security Council to deploy peacekeepers to neighboring Somalia, where a conflict has killed and displaced thousands of people since last year.
Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin told the U.N. General Assembly Monday that the U.N. Security Council has a responsibility to deploy a peacekeeping mission to Somalia as soon as possible, or at least, to provide resources to strengthen the current African Union mission.
The African Union has about 2,600 peacekeepers in Somalia.
Mesfin praised the deployment of troops from Uganda and Burundi to the A.U. forces and urged other nations to follow suit.
Ethiopian troops entered Somalia in 2006, to help the country’s interim government evict an Islamist movement that had seized control of the capital and much of southern Somalia.
Since then, unrelenting violence has killed thousands of Somalis and displaced at least one million others.

Now woyane is crying. At the first place it was clear that woyane would never win the war with somalia. Woyane invaded somalia with tanks, heavy artilery, planes and Helicopters and ofcourse with USA air surveillance and targeted strikes. There was no match with somalian ragtug militia fighters who were armed with only AK-47 and RPG’s.
Woyanidos when invaded somalia there was no any resistance, it was a piece of cake. The somalian fighters just dissolved within the population and were waiting to regroup and fight Iraqi style tactics, and the brave somalian fighters are winning the war. Now woyanidos are trapped like a sewer rat.

Founding Philosophy: The Tigray movement, also known as Weyane, began in the mid 1970’s as opposition to the Mengistu dictatorship in Addis Ababa. The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) was formed in early 1975 by members of a previous organization, the Tigray Liberation Organization that came under the influence of the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (EPLF). The TPLF’s goals included the overthrow of the Dergue regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam and the establishment of a more democratic, inclusive government for Ethiopia. Their ideology was communist, following an Albanian model. Although the group was based out of Tigray and was comprised of almost all Tigrayan peoples, they fought in the name of all groups that opposed Menigstu. Their largest offensive against Ethiopian forces was in February 1988, and by May 1989 the Ethiopian Army had completely pulled out of Tigray.
Despite the EPLF’s goal of Eritrean independence, contrasted with the TPLF’s goal of political change within Ethiopia, the two groups had close contacts throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, helped by EPLF raids on Derg bases within Tigray. Differences regarding the territorial boundaries of Tigray and Eritrea, however, eventually led to a split between the two groups.
Current Goals: In 1989 the TPLF formed an alliance with the Ethiopian People’s Democratic Movement (EPDM) and formed the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), which claimed to fight for the rights of all oppressed nationalities, civil rights, and a genuine people’s government. In 1991, the EPRDF succeeded in overthrowing the Menigstu regime, and took control of the Ethiopian government.
A split developed within the TPLF in the early 1990’s, based on debates between “moderate” and “hard-line” members of the group. Party leader and Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was a moderate and favored the adoption of market-based economic principles and privatization. Opposition from hard-line communists in the group led to an attempted, yet unsuccessful coup in March 2001. The TPLF-dominated EPRDF continues to hold power in Ethiopia.

Some Tigrean nationalists would want a fight with the EPLF (Shaabia) and are putting the Eritrean or Shaabia clique led by Meles Zenawi who are controlling Ethiopia. The Eritrean nationalist Meles Zenawi is i a big dilemma and trouble. He would not want to fight with Shaabia who brought him to power with their military skills and heavy guns. The only way out for him is to start some kind of low level conflict with Shaabia and allow the latter to kill as many soldiers as they can and settle for truce or a kind of peace arrangement with them. Then he can turn to the Tigray nationalists and tell them that look I went to war but lost so many of my soldiers and weaponry. So the war with Shaabia is no longer possible or winable. Meles Zenawi has taken a great deal of risk to save Shaabia in the previous conflict in which the Tigray nationalists were determined to finish off the army of Shaabia. There are many who understand the big dillema of Meles Zenawi concerning the conflict with Shaabia. He always wants to construct Eritrea as a viable Tigray-Tigrigne at the expense of the rest of Ethiopia. He was trying to steer away from the Tigray nationalists but the humiliating defeat in the election of 2005 has forced him to go back to the arms of these nationalists. Eritrean nationalism and Tigrean nationalism are proving difficult to combine or reconcile. At the end Meles Zenawi will have to choose and make a safe exit from the mess he has created in Ethiopia and the region.

I for myself want to talk of reality because the truth shall set us free.
Zenawi, the dictator refused when advised not to send his AGAZI troops to Somalia. First he seems to have won. But the victory did not last long for reasons that it is an Islamic State and they do not want a foreign intrusion to meddle in their internal affairs. So I believe that the TPLF was established as a Gorilla Warfare and its mission has ended up there as the former General of TPLF said in his recent interview with Ethiomedia.com. The TPLF cadre Meles as everybody knows lacks the caliber to administer the Country.
So advise these who blatantly support Zenawi and start calling names out to mum themselves and start thinking.
As Major General Abebe TekleHaimanot said, The Tigrai elite may fear one thing as being a sandwich between the Shabeia and the rest of the Ethiopian people and this think if Meles is gone an Inter Hawiye would ensue.
Think as the General thinks. Think ALWAYS that the people of Tigrai existed before the TPLF so ally with the rest of your brothers to end up the era of Meles and for the emergence of a new leader who can save us from this big mess.
