ቴዲ አፍሮ ቀደም ሲል በአውሮፓ ኮንሰርቱን ሲያዘጋጅ ለኢህአዴግ ቅርበት ካላቸው ወገኖች ጋር ውል መፈራረሙን ተከትሎ በውጭ ከሚገኙ በርካታ ኢትዮጵያዊያን ተቃውሞ ቀርቦበት እንደነበር ይታወሳል፡፡ ነገር ግን አዘጋጆቹ “የጥቂት ጽንፈኛ ዲያስፖራዎች ሴራ ነው” በሚል የሰጡትን ምላሽ ተቀብሎ በሰላማዊ ሰልፍ እንዲፈታ ብዙ ከጣሩለት ወገኖቹ ጋር በመቆራረጥ ስራውን ቀጥሏል፡፡ ብዙዎች በተለይ በአገር ውስጥ ያሉ ኢትዮጵያዊያን ሁኔታው ብዙም ግልጽ ስላልሆነላቸው በግዮኑ ኮንሰርት በርካታ ቁጥር ያለው ተመልካች ሊገኝለት ችሏል፡፡
በዛሬው ዕለት ግን ቴዲ በአዲስ ቪው ሆቴል ብዙዎችን ያስደመመ አሳፋሪ ስራ በመስራት የፖለቲካ አቋሙን ግልጽ አድርጓል፡፡ ቴዲ አፍሮ ለአስተባባሪዎቹ በሰጠው ትዕዛዝ ከኤሌክትሮኒክስ ሚዲያ የኢትዮጵያ ሬዲዮና ቴሌቭዥን ድርጅትና የሚሚ ስብሐቱ ኤፍ ኤም ከጋዜጦች ደግሞ ኢትዮ ቻናል እና ሪፖርተር ብቻ እንዲገኙ ስም ዝርዝር በመስጠት ከነዚህ ውጪ ማንም ሚዲያ እንዳይገባ ከልክሏል፡፡
በዝናብ በጸሐይና በፖሊስ እየተደበደቡ የፍርድ ሂደቱን ለህዝብ ሲያሳውቁ የነበሩና (ዛሬ በፖለቲካዊ አቋሙ ምክንያት በጠላትነት መታየታቸውን በመዘንጋት) በቦታው ላይ ደርሰው ለመግባት ጥያቄ ያቀረቡ ሚዲያዎች በጋርዶቹ ዛቻና ማስፈራሪያ ከአካባቢው እንዲጠፉ ተደርጓል፡፡
ድምጻዊው ለምን እዚህ ውሳኔ ላይ ሊደርስ እንደቻለ አውራምባ ታይምስ ከራሱ ከቴዲና ከማናጀሩ ለማወቅ ያደረገው ጥረት አልተሳካም፡፡

Is Teddy Afro Just another Entertainer?
One can’t look back on Teddy Afro’s carrier without remembering his famous songs such as YASTESERYAL, OOTAYE, and DAHLAK. His songs have vivid and unifying power to the people who struggle against injustice and tyranny. As result of his powerful songs, the young star had become a national icon of freedom of expression and faced a revenge motivated charges solely related to his criticisms against the rulers of Ethiopia. The power of his songssongs have forced millions of people to stand with him, to pray for his release, to demand foreign authorities to urge Ethiopia’s rulers to immediately release the artist, to sign petitions and honor his vision on peace, fairness, forgiveness, tolerance, national healing .
Following his release from jail, however, his position on his own songs, on freedom of expression and justice has become controversial and the talk of the town.
According to some sources, the superstar may have actually signed a 250, 000 dollars contract to censor himself and not to play his most beloved songs such as YASTESERYAL, OOTAYE, and DAHLAK (unless forced). The above troubling doubts or rumors appear partially supported by the observations that were made during his recent shows including the triumphant ‘back-in-freedom concert’ in Addis Ababa, where he donated 1.1 million Ethiopian Birr to the regimes phony Elshadai Relief & Development Association.
To make the matter worse , the most recent concert in DC was not also short of condemnation and critiques. The performance by young artist who arrived in capital city of the politics Washington, to entertain Ethiopians living in DC metro just two days after the end of 2009 was reported to be no where close to what many of his fans expected.
Although the promoters expected to see DC Armory be filled with thousands of Ethiopians, the turn out was reported to be unsatisfactory. According to observers who attended the concert and some whom were connected with the promoters, Teddy Afro’s concert at the DC Armory was unimpressive perhaps disappointing. The artist who once climbed to be considered as the young Bob Marley of Ethiopia was reported to appear just as any other “singer “ who arrived from Ethiopia to entertain the depressed minds and souls of immigrants if they were willing to pay $ 50 dollars. Many also expressed their dissatisfaction because he failed to express Ethiopian-gratitude to the Diaspora community that supported him during his difficult times.
All above raised issues are becoming colossal challenges to Teddy Afro as they are tainting his superstar image.
If Teddy Afro does not adequately and timely address the rumors and convince Ethiopians who have begun to question his uprightness, he may not be very far away from joining the fate of some former entertainers who allowed themselves to be mentally enslaved and lost their respect. We hope it is not going to be what they call the rise and fall…..of Teddy Afro.

This is a big joke.Teddy is within his own right to give interviews or press briefing to whomever he likes.While teddy was in prison, those who reported about the illegality of his arrest was a duty that any free press should be doing. It is an ethics of journalism not a favor . Reporting about his Illegal arrest can never give them the exclusive right to force him to do anything against his free will. In the first place, this singer has no political maturity at all except getting popularity by singing songs that could touch the very feelings/emotions of the people particularly the youth, and consequently made him the ” rich” young singer.
It is not surprising leave alone shocking at all to witness the very manifestation of his real interest and capacity.
I am sorry to say, if the rumor is true, “artist” Tedy has severely disqualified/damaged himself and has become another disgraceful person as far as the expectation of the Ethiopian people is concerned. Art that dose not serve the very purpose of the Ethiopian people who are suffering from all kinds of destitution is like a dead fish. I am afraid the way he is behaving may get the blessing of TPLF/EPRDF to sing songs that condemn the Ethiopian people who are struggling for the prevalence of human rights,genuine democracy, the rule of law, peace and prosperity.
I think Ethiopians in the Diaspora protested against the imprisonment of Tedy and other political figures such as Judge Birtukan not because they merely love them personally but most critically they wanted to see all injustices come to an end in their country. So, all Ethiopians who stood by the side of Tedy will never regret for what they have done. That is why the betrayal act of any citizen should not take us by surprise. That is not what the essence of a real political struggle for freedom tells us.
I wish this rumor would be unfounded and Tedy maintained his greatness- Super Star . However, based on the circumstance he is “dancing”, we have a sound reason for our doubts.
If what we are hearing is true,the coming up of his book(poem) will never win the hearts and minds of the Ethiopian people. Why? Because the very content ( if it is in good shape) of the book will be with highly decorated literature but devoid of the real reflection of the lives of the people of Ethiopia. The result will be the manifestation of the conflict of interest with in himself. If that is the case, Tedy will be the victim of his own dramatic behavioral change, if he was a man of honesty before.
Folks, it is neither a taboo nor wrong to tell what we feel about this kind of behavior. Yes, we had great respect and admiration for his previous performance. However, we have the right to express our critical view whenever we see and feel that something going wrong.
What someone did before cannot be taken for granted forever.
He has the right to associate himself with whom he wants. But, it must be very clear that the Ethiopian people have equally have the right to call the spade spade.

Leave Teddy alone, he has done a lot more than any other Ethiopian in his age and generation. Please, don’t villify the great artist who loves his country more than each one of us. He might have thought a different way of living his life, that his choice. We respect and appreciate him what he did in the past. His works are eternal and will always echoe in the minds of all the young generations. Stop this new hate campaign on Teddy unless you have your own sinister motive.

It takes you just a couple of articles to worship or denounce people.
This shows how cheap you are. Before blaming and cursing this youngster (with big heart full of love), you have to wait till atleast what he can say about the trash posted above.
Do you know what am suspecting? the economic and political brokes like tamgn beyene, are asking this youngster-turned-millionaire for financial support. As you know this guy is getting rich every other day, thanks to his gift from God.

As we witnessed so many great Ethiopians, who are thoughtful, genuine and constructive, there are also some cynical and destructive Ethiopians, the like of EMF and Awramba Editors. Tedi afro is not a poetical person, but just good singer. It seems to me these peoples are unhappy for his release from prison and need him to go back to again.
Please do not push him to go to Woyane’s camp, as you did it to Lidetu Ayalew and Hail Shwel. Leave him alone.

Ok as one of you said, “Reporting about his Illegal arrest can never give them the exclusive right to force him to do anything against his free will.” But, he should at least give authorization to one of these “so called” free media. This makes nothing but nourishes the rumour.
I want to believe also that Teddy is not a politician but a singer. But, if this is the case, tell him not to sing anymore anything politics. Is “Yasteseriyal” a love song for you ?
I love Teddy’s songs and I don’t want to believe to all these allegations. I considered him as an “engaged” singer as we have a lot here in Western countries.
So I invite him to give a sort of press conference (in this case, all media without any distinction) to clarify things.
He perhaps signed an agreement to be released. We never know but this should not be a secret. Let him tell us and we will understand.

Teddy Afro is not a free person because he was released under pre-defined conditions which included stopping to
sing songs which annoy the weyannes (ethnic fascists). Now the weyannes are abusing this singer to advance their political agenda. Recently I had a talk with one blind and die-hard weyanne in the UK who told me that Teddy will continue to isolate and marginalize the few vocal diaspora. The weyanne said that Teddy is from the oppressed southern nationality and is learning from some of his past mistakes. According to this weyanne I talked to, Teddu will not sing the neftegna or oppressor songs any more and abandon the camp of chauvinists.

Awramba is the only news source we have in Ethiopia. I had the privileged of meeting Teddy while he was in Europe. I can assure anyone who doubt him that Teddy loves his country as much as anybody if not more. You should also understand that people who surrounding him are making money out of him and don’t want to jeopardize that . They also like to be seen as pro government so that they have the support from the dictatorial regime. One thing for sure I can say is Teddy will not say, ‘don’t let the private media attend the show’.

The question is not if he is threatened, it is what kinds of warning woyanes have given this young singer not speak out and not sing certain songs about the injustice in Ethiopia. You are wrong. Teddy is an artist like Tilahun Gessese and may others. Teddy can not be a revolutionary where there is no revolution. He serves Ethiopia better with his art - songs that inspire millions of Ethiopians.
The struggle for democracy should be the responsiblility of ethiopian politicians in the main and not that of artists in particular. I should say I did not like his song ” ጃ ያስተሰርያል” which is ras tafarian, whcih makes the late monarch the base of the movement. It is a pitty many of you did not tell Teddy not to sing this song. Teddy detach himself from Rastas, because it is the antithesis of the democracy in Ethiopia and Haile Selassie was not an exemplary king in contrast to Menelik II.
Teddy should continue to be an artist who serves the people of Ethiopia like Tilahun Gessese and others. Some of you should stop throwing dirty words at Teddy. Leave him to develop as an artist, who serves the people of Ethiopia irrespective of their political persuasions.

Living in democracy for some is to fantasize the rich and famous, mixing ones language with foreign words and visit ones own country as tourists not be ashamed by many hands of children and elderly asking for bread.
What Teddy Afro did after he was released is to make a concert for this visible street people of Addis Ababa and raise money which many of us a tourist throw on children and elderly hands out of contempt.
Those who attack Teddy Afro do not show any compassion for their own people. Are these people have any moral background to question the character of Teddy Afro who is saving many lives each and every day by using his talent ?

We should accept that, Teddy has his all god given rights to do what ever he wants to do. However one has also to realize that what made him famous and loved by all the Ethiopian people is becuse all his songs were political and expressing the reality of what is going on in Ethiopia, other than that he is in no way different from his other compatriot singer. Actually there are many singers who have better voice and can do a better job. If he wants to continue with his fame and get a lot of admirers and fans he better side with the people and continue the same way he was doing before. If he is scared because of the jail time he did and I don’t know warnings given to him by Woyane government or prefers the money he is promised, if there is one, let him side with them. The choice is his. The truth he has to know is, if he is gone to decide to side Woyane, it is gone to be his end in the hearts of the Ethiopian people and will be treated like other common singer and will miss all the love he was shown hither to.

I wish I could be wrong and Teddy Afro could be right and able to maintain his credibility. Nobody with his right mind is interested to discredit what Teddy has performed and achieved.
I strongly believe that anyone has and should have the right to express his/her view.Meqedela, if we agree on this fundamental individual rights, I have the right to have my own critical comment about what is happening around Teddy Afro as you have the right to defend him. Dear fellow Ethiopians, I strongly agree with most of the comments which stress the need to focus on an issue ,not on a personalities as such and try to come up with rational, fair and constructive remarks. Yes, if we are serious enough about getting things right, we need to communicate our views in a civilized/ rational and critical manner. It is only when a person who is the subject of an issue is courageous enough to communicate and tell what is really happening around him that we may avoid or minimize the rampant circulation of all kinds of rumors/speculations. It is impossible to stop rumors and speculations simply by telling the people not to do. And it is terribly wrong and irrational to say that people who speculate ( whether right or wrong) are bad people. The question is not whether Teddy has no the right to be disloyal to the people and associate himself with a ruling elites. The question is he has no the right at all to be instrumental for the very continuation of the gross violation of the basic human, political, social and economic rights in our country.
Folks, to argue that a person is immune from criticism or any blame for the simple reason what he did good in the past does not take us anywhere. There is no doubt that the moment a person changes his mind and joins the world of injustice, he willingly disqualifies his great work that was in line with the very interest of a nation and its people. That is what it is. How it would be justifiable if Teddy changes his “Yasteserayal” into something else ( let’s hope he won’t) and becomes “a nice guy”of an ill-guided politics??
Yes, Teddy’s contribution for charity activities and support artists Lemma is desirable and good. We know that the ruling party has its own charity and significant support to its allies involved in various activities . And for that matter we can witness some “humanitarian” activities by the people who have preferential treatment from the ruling party. It is by using these kind of disingenuous people that the ruling elites try to deceive innocent people who are suffering from all kinds of incredible misery. So, the charitable activities of Teddy cannot give him a silence to extend the unconditional support for the perpetuation of tyranny in our country.

አንዳንዶቻችን የምንሰጠው አስተያየት በጣም የሚገርም ነው! ቴዲን 45 ታቦት አድርገን ልናመልከው የሚቃጣን አለን፡፤ ሰው የሚገገመገመው በሥራውና በአቋሙ ነው፤፡ ጥሩ ሲሰራ ይመሰገናል መጥፎም ሲሰራ ይወቀሳል፡፤ ቴዲም በምርጫ 97 የሕዝብን ስሜት አንጎራጎረ ብለን አመሰገነው ወደድነው፡፤ ሲታሰርም ጮህንለት! አሁን ደግሞ ድካማችንን ከንቱ አድርጎ የማይሆን ነገር ከሠራ ይተፋል።
ለመሆኑ ቴዲ 30 የማይሆኑ ዘፈኖች ስለዘፈነ ነው ወይስ ስለታሰረ ዝናው የገነነው? አትጠራጠሩ በመታሰሩ ነው ይህን ያህል ተከብሮ የቆየው! አሁን ደግሞ ፤ ሲፈታ እራሱን ካቀለለ የሰጠነውን ክብር ተመላሽ ማድረግ ነው። ይህ በልደቱም በሃይሉ ሻውልም የታየ ነገር ነው። ከሕዝብ ማንም አይበልጥም።
የገረመኝ ደግሞ ተድላ አስፋው በቴዲ ውስጥ ኃይሉ ሻውል እየታዩት የሰጠው አስተያየት ነው፡፤ ቴዲ ድሃ ረዳ ምናምን ,ከየት አምጥቶ መስለህ የረዳው? ከኛው ተቀብሎ እንጂ….ጉሮሮው ገንዘብ አይተፋ የኛው ገንዘብ እኮ ነው። ይህን ተግባር መፈጸሙ 100% ከተርጋገጠ ቴዲ በቃው። ኢ.ኤም ኤፍ ስለ ቴዲ ለምን መጥፎ መጥፎ ነገር ታወጣለህ ያለው አስተያየት ሰጭ ደግሞ ዜና ማለት ምስራች ብቻ ነው ያለህ ማነው? ጥፋቱንም ልማቱንም መዘገብ አለባቸው።
ቴዲ ከማንም በላይ የሚጎዳው እራሱን ነው፡፤ ውጭ ወጣ አያለ ዶላር ዝቆ መመለስ ካሁን በኋላ የሚሆን አይመስለኝም። ጎሮሮውን ዘጋ። የአርቲስት ነፍሱ ያለቺው ሕዝብ ላይ ነው ይባላል,! ከሕዝብ የተጣላ አርቲስት ከባህር የወጣ ዓሣ ማለት ነው እኛማ ምን እንሆናለን…አቤት አቤት ደቀደቁት አይደል ቅቅቅቅ የቴዲ ቲፎዞዎች አናደውኝ፡፤
አይ ቴዲ .. ታማኝ በየነ አንዴ ቴዲን ኢንተርቪው ቢጤ ሲያደርግለት ; ለመሆኑ አባትህ ቴድሮስ ብሎ ያወጣልህ አስቦበት ነው? አጼ ቴዎድሮስም ዋናው ስማቸው ካሳ ስለሆነ ተገጣጠመ አይነት ነበር ጥያቄው…ታዲያ በግዜው ሁላችንም ” ስምን መልአክ ያወጣዋል ! እውነትም ቴድሮስ ያላልን አልነበርንም….. ስሙን በላነው አሉ አለቃ።
አለቃ የማይረባ ምግብ ለምሳ አቀርበውላቸው ነበርና ሌላው ሰው አለቃ ምሳ በሉ? ቢላቸው አዎ ስሙን በላነው አሉ፡፤ ቴዲም ስሙን በልቶ ሊቀር ይሆን?
