BBC, 23 December 2009 — The UN Security Council has imposed sanctions on Eritrea because of aid it says it has been giving to Islamic insurgents in Somalia.
The resolution places an arms embargo on Eritrea, and also imposes travel bans and asset freezes on businesses and individuals.
Members of the Eritrean leadership are expected to be affected. The resolution was backed by 13 votes to 15.
China abstained while Libya, the only Arab council member, voted against.
Eritrean officials have repeatedly denied the allegations, calling them a “fabrication” of US intelligence.
The country suspended its membership of the African Union in protest at the call for sanctions in April.
The UN has frequently expressed concern about the flow of arms in to Somalia, where hard-line Islamists of al-Shabab and Hizbul-Islam are battling with government forces for control of the capital Mogadishu.
Somalia has been subject to a UN arms embargo for many years, but weapons are still freely available in the Mogadishu weapons market.

look at the Chinese greedy government.
Chinese government protected the dictator Sudanese government in in many occasion when the UN tried to protect 250,000 civilians who are slautered in Darfur. The Chinese has no moral as long as they get whatever they want out of sudan to satisfy the high demand of their countless population.
In many occasion including the recent climate deal, the chinese seems to loosing “Moral”
Anyways its time for the Eritirans to ask themselves where their 30 years bloody war and sacrifice is heading to???

That is because Eritrea wont agree w/Washington. If they really worried about human life and stablities in the horn, they should have taken smilar action to the evil killer Meles Zenwi ethiopia’s crime minstor. Shame on those UN who are the servants of their Master. I’m not saying Eritrea is doing great. AT least she did not kill inncent people in the name of Election. The dictator of Eritrea is not the yes man and stooge of the west as is the racist and ethnical fascist Meles Zenawi. The west have already put in place their own sanctions on Eritrea and they have not been effective. Now they are using the UN sanctions to topple the regime in Asmara. The west are fighting the regime of Isias Afewerki in all fronts. For example they are accepting Eritrean refugees automatically in order to encourage an exodus of young people from the small country and undermine the regime. But Eritreans are smart people who take advantage of the western offer and support their families in Eritrea but do nothing to oppose or fight the regime as the western powers would like them to do. Repeated western attempts to form and mobilize anti-Isias opposition in the Eritrean diaspora are failing because the Eritreans do not want to have a western puppet regime like that of the ethnic fascist, Meles Zenawi in their country. Eritreans unlike Ethiopians want to have a free country and would not accept western interference nor rule in their country. Thus the west will not succeed in installing a client and puppet regime in Asmara.

I am an Ethiopian through and through but i am not at all convinced
by the u.n embargo even after all fabricated collected accusations of
some african dictators orchesterd by the most criminal and genocider
zenawi with no single proof like he has always do in Ethiopian courts
against true Ethiopians as for U.N and U.S my message is as follows
a terrorist who terrorizes its citizens can not be an ally to fight
