(ደጀ ሰላም፤ ጁላይ 8/2009) – ያለ ፓትርያርኩ ፍላጎትና ፈቃድ፣ ፓትርያርኩን ያልጨመረው የመጀመሪያው የቅ/ሲኖዶስ ስብሰባ በማካሄድ ላይ ይገኛል። ስብሰባው ዛሬ ረቡዕ ጠዋት ሲጀመር ጉባዔውን ለማቋረጥ ብዙ ሙከራ ያደረጉት ቅዱስነታቸው ሳይሳካላቸው ቀርቷል ተብሏል። በመጨረሻም አጀንዳው ቀርቦ ሊጸድቅ ችሏል። የዕለቱ ብቸኛ አጀንዳ “ፓትርያርኩ የተፈጸሙ አስተዳደራዊ በደሎች” በመሆናቸው ይህንን አጀንዳ ለመመልከት በሕገ ቤተ ክርስቲያን መሠረት ቅዱስነታቸው መውጣት እንዳለባቸው ሲነገራቸው አሻፈረኝ ብለዋል። በዚህ መልኩ ለብዙ ሰዓታት ብጥብጡ ቀጥሎ በመጨረሻ ቅ/ሲኖዶሱ ሁሉጊዜም ከሚካሄድበት አዳራሽ በመውጣት አባቶች ባገኙት በሌላ ሥፍራ በመካሄድ ላይ ይገኛል።
ጉባዔው ስብሰባውን ሲቀጥል ብፁዕ አቡነ ቄርሎስ በሰብሳቢነት እንዲመሩ የመረጣቸው መሆኑም ታውቋል።
ይህንን ጉባዔ ለማካሄድ ብዙ እንቅፋት ገጥሞት እንደነበር የደጀ ሰላም ምንጮች አስታውቀዋል። በተለይም የቅዱስነታቸው ደጋፊዎች የሆኑት ብፁዓን አበው ገብርኤል፣ ይስሐቅ፣ ገሪማ፣ ኤርምያስና ሙሴ አደናቃፊ ተግባራትን ሲፈጽሙና ሲያስፈጽሙ ነበር ተብሏል። በተጨማሪም ብፁዓን አባቶችን በስልክ “እንገላችሁዋለን፣ እናጠፋችሁዋለን” እያለ የሚያስፈራራው የወ/ሮ እጅጋየሁና የግብረ አበሮቻቸው ቡድን በዚሁ ተግባሩ ቀጥሏል ተብሏል። ሴትዬዋ ሽጉጥ መታጠቃቸውን ቢያንስ በሁለት አጋጣሚዎች ያሳዩ ሲሆን በሙስናና በቤተ ክርስቲያን ዝርፊያ ሀብታም የሆኑት ሰዎች ቡድን በብፁዓን አባቶች ላይ አደጋ እንዳይጥል መንግሥት ጥበቃ ያደርጋል ተብሎ ይጠበቃል።
ይህ በእንዲህ እንዳለ ጉዳዩን በጥሞና በመከታተል ላይ የሚገኘው መንግሥት “የቅዱስ ሲኖዶስን ውሳኔ እንደሚቀበል” ፍንጭ ማሳየቱ ታውቋል። ነገሩ በርግጥ በዚህ መልክ ከቀጠለ እና መንግሥት የቤተ ክርስቲያን አባቶችን ውሳኔ አክብሮ ከተቀበለ በማስፈራራትና “ወየውላችሁ መንግሥት ከኔ ጋር ነው” የሚለው ቅዱስነታቸው ዛቻ ፍሬ ያጣል ተብሎ ይጠበቃል። ይህም ቤተ ክርስቲያን በርግጥም ራሷን በራሷ በእውነተኛ ነጻነት ማስተዳደር የምትጀምርበት አዲስ ምዕራፍ እንዲከፈት ያደርገዋል።

Corruption is common in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church leaders.One of example of the case is the church of St.Urael in Addis Ababa.The church had built offices on the side of Asmera Road.These offices were rented to the people without the proper bidding.The then chief of the Urael church,Aba Izra with cooperation of Aba paulos group looted the money which can be used for the devlopment of the people.After this all,Aba Izra suspended and arrested by the police.After all this icncident, Aba Paulos insisted Bishop Samuel to reinstate Aba Izra.Bishop Samuel refused
to do so .The time is now to tell the truth.The Ethiopian Orthodox People are like the sheep without shephered.I call uopn all people to stand up togther to respect the church guiding rules”Kala Awadi”.Our church needs being reformed administratively .The dogma must be respected and kept as it is.Truth slims but never dies!!!!!

I got a problem with the so called Spritual leaders in Ethiopia. In my point of view spritual fathers have got responsiblity to stand up and speak for truth, Peace and Justice.
However when I look back and see whether our Spritual fathers from orthodox or Catholic, Protestant or Muslim faith spoken about Justice in Ethiopia??? the answer is NO!
IF there is a problem its about their own interest, Nothing to do Ethiopia and thier fellow lay men and wemen.
They need to weak up and completely disassociate themselves with evil regime and stand up for JUSTICE in ethiopia. By the way have they ever heard about “Liberation theology”??? don’t think so
Ethiopia shall Prevail.

Aba Gebremedhin is about to be dumped. The dilemma Woyanne and the conspirators are facing is exactly what they faced 18 years ago when they deposed Abuna Merkorios who is still the legitimate patriarch of the church. The challenge on how to appoint new patriarch when the existing patriarch is still alive has not yet been resolved. Aba gebremidhin understands this better than anyone else that Woyanne is not about to make the same stupid mistake. Therefore to him this is not just about keeping the thorn, but keeping and saving his life.
When we navigate through this developing story, please keep in mind why this is happening now.
1. The final death march of Woyanne……. every man is for himself. Complete breakdown of low and order including disrespect and scapegoat positioning by rank and files. Please remember Aba Gebremidhin is not a religious man but that of the flesh. Anything and everything that is about to happen to the tribal regime starts with him, but will eventually consume all of them. This is the beginning of the end game.
2. Follow the money and you will arrive at Azeb mesfin. None of the current archbishops who are challenging this man would have dare to do it without the power behind the push. The rebellion which is spearheaded by Aba Samuel of Wolkayete happens to be a distant family of, you guessed it, Azeb Mesfn herself.
3. As Bereket correctly pointed out, the so called Mahebere kidusan ( a political organization) is a major force within the church which was organized as Woyanne to strengthen Woyanne’s grip on Ethiopia. They were given limitless access in every parish in every region except in Tigray. Please see:

Now this group has gotten so big and powerful it is sometimes referred as the second Synod within Ethiopia. They are equally despised by every faithful in the country. Most recently, all their visible asset was confiscated by Aba Gebremedhin and now they are turning their anger away from Aba Merkorios to the man who unleashed them, Aba gebremedhin himself. We welcome the cannibalism of the enemy of God and the nation of Ethiopia.

ወዪ ጉድ ጳጳሳት እንዲህ መጫወቻ ዪሁኑ?ያሳዝናል! የወያነ ጳጳሳት እነሱ ተዋርደው እምነታቸዉንና አማኞችን ሃገራቸዉንና ክብራቸዉን አዋረዱ. የኢትዮጵያ ነገር እጅግ በጣም ያስቆጫል. ወያነ አንዲት ብቸኛ የኢትዮጵያ ምልክት የሆነች ጥንታዊት ቤተክርስቲያንን ለመቆጣጠር ገና ከጅምሩ የራሱን ሰዉ (አባ ጳዉሎስን) የሾመ ቢሆንም ያ አልበቃዉ ብሎ ጨርሶ ሊያጠፋት ከላይ ከታች እየባዘነ ነዉ.

Spiritual leaders? What Spiritual leaders? It is sad to see that we lack a single credible social institution in the country. The EOC leaders have repeatedly failed to stand up to the manifestly gratuitous abuses of power by the patriarch, and there is no reason to believe that the meeting being held now is to uphold the sacred laws of the church. It seems to me that this is a shrewd move by the so-called “spiritual leaders” of the church who have detected that the wind of power is blowing away from Abuna Paulos. We all know the origin of that wind!

Deje Selam is ventilating a semi-true news item. There, indeed, is a split right down the middle of the Holy Synod. At the heart of the split is a tug-of-war between the leader of the dissidents, Aba Samuel, Arch Bishop of Addis Ababa and Patriarch Paulos.
The problem between the Patriarch and Aba Paulos is not of recent origin, albeit Aba Samuel is officially meant to be the Patriarch’s Assistant. Talk to any priest in Addis, and he will confirm to you that at the heart of the problem is ENVY on the part of Aba Samuel. Indeed, it was against the recommendation of members of EOTC’s Holy Synod that the Patriarch made Aba Sauel an Arch Bishop in the first place. You see, though both are Tigreans and both had spent considerable years in exile, the undeniable fact of the matter is that Patriarch Paulos used every day of his 10 year exile serving the Ethiopian community by establishing churches as well as by broadening his academic horizon which culminated in the Patriarch acquiring a PhD from Harvard. Not much, however, can be said about Aba Samuel other than he managed to save a lot of USD from his employment at a petrol station.
Now the flaws inherent in Deje Selam’s piece of news item. Contrary to the news, therefore, two attempts by dissident members of the Holy Synod to convene a Holy Synod meeting met a stiff resistance from the Patriarch not because the issue to be discussed was “a no confidence motion on Patriarch Paulos’ leadership,” but because Patriarch Paulos would not give in to the dissidents demand that (a) he should resind his Patriarchial order in banning the ad hoc Executive Committee, and (b) that he should reinstate Aba Samuel to the Arch Diocese of Addis Ababa.
Now the Patriarch’s refusal has its roots on 2 very fundamental issues. With regard to the banning of the ad hoc Executive Committe, it is believed by both the Patriarch and by Bete Kihnet that the ad hoc Executive Committee had quickly assumed some kind of para-Patriarchial role which is cleary at odds with the spirit and letter of why it came into being. Not only does this constitute an act of attempted coup d’etat on the entire leadership structure of EOTC, but its bannig was totally endorsed by all branches of EOTC who held a meeting last week within the Patriarchate. Their resolution clearly stated that they would not recognize “the legitimacy of an ad hoc Executive Committee because it runs counter to the Canon Laws of EOTC.”
With regard to the reinstatement of Aba Samuel, too, the Patriarch’s refusal is based on tangible and legitimate reasons. First, Aba Samuel had distributed a memo to all administrators of churches and monastries in Addis Ababa ordering them not to accept any instructions from both the Patriarch and the EOTC’s Administration. Secondly, all church of Addis Ababa’s administrators, having denounced the actions of Aba Samuel had reached a unanimous decision calling for the downfall of Aba Samuel for his sinister act of staging a coup d’etat on his “brother-in-Christ.” In addition, by a fluke of coincidence a book accusing Aba Samuel of debauchery detailing the name of his partner both a woman and a man was published and sold out in less than a day.
Aba Samuel was so enraged about the publication that he used his contacts to arrest Decon Zerihum whom he expected of exposing his love affairs. Police released Zerihun on bail after a search of his home revealed no evidence. Aba Samuel’s next suspect was Woizero Egigayehu Beyene (former wife of artist Mohamed Ahmed) who has vowed to expose Aba Samuel’s philandering. It is because of this that Aba Samuel and Aba Michael (who is widely believed to have a son who recently graduated from University) had been calling for Woizero Ejigayehu’s banning from the Patriarichate and indeed from all EOTC’s churches.
What Deje Selam also failed to inform is that last Tuesday morning as Bishops and Arch Bishops were heading to the Patriarch’s Office a delegation of approximately 150 members of the laity were assembled with a petion asking for the “withdrawal of “philanderer Aba Samuel who had brought disripute to the sanctity of EOTC.” They later met the Patriarch and the Permanent Holy Synod (which directs day-to-day-affairs of the Church in between the biannual meetings of the Holy Synod) and presented their petition. All this is something well documented in script and video form.
Gone are the days of the cabalists within EOTC. Patriarch Paulos is under pressure by the multitude to clean up the higher echelon of the church from those who abuse children, women and men. Such accussations are not new in churches. The Catholic church is gripped by it from time to time, but not dealing with it is no solution. The dissidents are acutely aware that if they fail to bail out Aba Samuel quickly, they will be the next in line to be exposed for debauchery. That’s why they are rallying behind Aba Samuel.
Finally, about the stated Holy Synod meeting at a secret location. Yes, the canon law of the church demands that if the Holy Synod wishes to deliberate upon issues related to the Patriarch, the Patriarch’s absence is called for. But it also demands that all members of the Holy Synod must be present and the decision must be unanimous. By Deje Selam’s own admission, no less than 5 Archbishops have mounted active resistance against the dissident Bishops.
This talk of maladministration, nepotism and corruption are neither here or there than the sanctity of those who are trusted to shephered the laity to the Kingdom of Heaven. Sanctity and not mamon is our salvation.

What is happening in the top of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is a Tigrayan power struggle for control and exploitation. Both aba Paulos
and aba Samuel are weyannes and desecrating the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The weyanne or ethnofascist using the name Ewnetu is accusing aba samuel for inciting the power struggle and removing aba Paulos because the latter is from Adwa. The ethnofascist Meles Zenawi trusts and regards the Adwans as the golden people and have placed them in key government and other positions. Thus the Adwans are the most trusted Tigrayans serving as the backbone of ethnofascism in Ethiopia.
The return of Eritreans to Ethiopia can relegate the Adwans to a secondary status since Meles Zenawi favours and trusts them more than the Adwans. As an Adwan aba Paulos is expected to emerge as the winner from the ongoing power struggle. The other scenario is Meles Zenawi could bring in a clergy from Eritrea and appoint him as the patriarich of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and fill in all the key positions in the church with Eritreans.
