By Marge Floori, ADDIS ABABA (26 June 2009)– The head of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia has stated that the Ark of the Covenant will be revealed to the public.
Abuna Pauolos is in Vatican City this week, meeting with Pope Benedict XVI. It is from this holy city that Pauolos confirmed the Ark of the Covenant’s presence in Ethiopia, and that he will be announcing its unveiling this Friday:“Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries.” The Ark is a sacred container written of in the Old Testament. It is said to contain the original Ten Commandments tablets, as well as some manna, the mythical food that the Israelites ate while wandering through the desert.It was made of wood, but covered in pure gold. On top, two cherubim faced each other, their wings outspread to form the “throne of God”. It’s supposed weight has been widely debated, with numbers ranging from 180 to 8,000 pounds!Theologians have never been able to agree on the Ark’s fate, but many believe Menelik I brought it to Ethiopia. Menelik was the son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, and was the first Jewish emperor of Ethiopia.
Today, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church boasts that it sits under lock and key in the Chapel of the Tablet, near the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion. It is only used occasionally in ritual processions, but almost no one has seen it, let alone gotten photographic evidence.
Said Pauolos, “The Ark of the Covenant is in Ethiopia for many centuries. As a patriarch I have seen it with my own eyes and only few highly qualified persons could do the same, until now.”
Even UFOlogists are excited, as some believe the Ark is an example of alien intervention in ancient times. They interpret its its supernatural aspects literally, such as that the operator had to wear a special gem-adorned breastplate, or that it could be used as a weapon of mass destruction.
The world anxiously awaits his announcement tomorrow. But will it be the real Ark, or just a hoax?

If Paulos could see it, the Ark of the Covenant must have lost its sacredness. Holy Spirit has left the Ark of the Covenant on a number of times when it fell in the hands of unclean and ungodly people. Although I don’t believe that Paulos has the moral and religious right to expose it to the rest of the world, I feel as well that it doesn’t make any difference any more.

I, of course, understand that the article is sourced by someone else, but you mark my word that this is not true. In the first place, no one person, let alone the Patriarch Paulos, has any right whatsosever to order the display of the Ark of the Covenant. Don’t forget, the Custodian of the Ark of the Covenant is not the Patriarch of Ethiopia, but a simple monk, who is chosen after a constellation of saintly monks undergo a period of fasting and devotional where they fervently pray for divine guidance. Moreover, the centuries-old fiat and convention demand that strick observance be maintained 24/7 in protecting the Ark of the Covenant from the public. That is why the only person who has a life-long access is the custodian and the custodian only.
I, therefore, question the very veracity of the story because the decision to display the Ark of Covenant by the Church is a sure fire way of igniting a revolution against the hierachy of the church. So, our best bet would be to take the story with a dollop of salt, not to say ignore it.

This is another attempt to cheapen the image of Ethiopia. Remember? when they labeled the Ethiopian flag as a piece of rag? Now, they want the whole world to know the ark is a hoax thereby tarnishing Ethiopia’s reputation. Another dagger into the heart of Ethiopia. The question is why now? Since I heard about the existence of the Ark of the covenant of Moses in Axum, I’m some how skeptical about the authenticity of the Ark.
As you may know there is at least hundred of years between the date of the Axumite Empire and King Solomon. So the legend that King Minilik I could be the son of King Solomon and that he took the Ark of the covenant can just not be true.
I love my country and its history but I’m afraid some of our history is simply a legend and not based on hard facts.
That is why I’m very much sure that scientists will expose this so called Ark of the covenant of Moses as a fake.
I think we have to love our true history and reject false and fake ones!

If this does not even outrage the Tigrayans I don’t know what will because they have guarded this for centuries.
If looking at the Ark could kill you how come he was able to see it in his own eyes especially when he is the sinner of all.
I don’t think the Arc of the Covenant is real maybe it is a story made up by the Shiftas of certain Tigrayans and Eritreans where the Meles, Sebhat, etc ancestors came from.

First and foremost what we need to know about the ark!!
The value and the sacredness of the ark was reserved to specific time and for specific purpose. The value of the ark and the purposed assigned for had long gone before the birth of the messiah. Though one book I read called the ” Prophets and Kings” says that the ark was hidden long before the Babylonian came to to destroy the temple by few preist and Jeremiah the prophet. The purpose of the ark was to teach Israel about the sanctuary message, but the messiah, who was and is the “way” to the heavenly sanctuary revealed the purpose of the earthly sanctuary together with the ark of the covenant gone once and for all. Remember, the same ark of covenant (the law) is promised to be written in our heart again, in the new testament! So, today God is in preparation to reveal people upon whom men would wondered at, people with ark of the covenant is in their heart. I know you would like to dwell on finding and not finding the ark but the only way to fight the TPLF and facilitate their fall and weaken them is to be smarter. It is not a rocket science to know where the ark of the covenant is, we are the ark and our mind is the table stone and soon the commandment will be written in a way it shall not be forgotten. We have to educate our people!! Ignorance is one ways of TPLF fighting our people they are determine to keep Ethiopia in darkness. So, there is no such thing as the ark of the real ark of covenant in Ethiopia. People mistakenly believed that for centuries and now we have to stand against the repressive regime so that they would not full the world and make money out of it and use the same money to kill our people!! Nevertheless, their might be a copy (which is as good as one of your furniture at home) of the original may have been given by king Solomon when queen Sheba was their. I remeber one attempt made by the Israeli comado to take the arc which was un successful and all people in Axum know this. But Aba Paulos has deined it.
