The disgraced chairman of the defunct United Ethiopian Democratic Party (UEDP), Lidetu Ayalew acts like a cornered rat as things go not in favor of his deceptive ‘third way’ propaganda.
On Friday, Lidetu called on government controlled Walta, ENA and ETV to give a “Press Conference” to attack an opposition coalition called MEDREK. “We are determined to battle them.” Lidetu said on ETV.
Lidetu gave the “Press conference” after he was compelled to walk out of opposition meeting held at Dutch embassy in the presence of Dutch delegation including Netherlands’ human rights Ambassador. The delegation was well informed by Ethiopian activists in the Netherlands before its departure to Addis Ababa.
The Ethiopian people consider Lidetu as a traitor and a TPLF spy. Lidetu is the only “opposition” member of the parliament that supported the December 2006 invasion of Somalia by TPLF forces. He was also the only ‘opposition’ MP who vehemently opposed the US human rights bill HR 2003.
A self appointed dictator, who has lost the support of the entire Ethiopian people for collaborating with the ruling TPLF regime, Lidetu Ayalew is holding meetings after meetings to attack all opposition parties.
Last month, the Meles regime had facilitated the state media for Lidetu to assault Ginbot 7 movement. Lidetu has also use bad words to insult Dr. Beyene Petros at a reception inside French embassy.

You guys have you seen the recent public meetings held by EDP in Addis Ababa and Hawassa? The meeting halls were very crouded and the discussions were very lively and educational. Unlike what we always have been saying during the last couple of years, I think it is clear now EDP is enjoying a great support from Ethiopians which is growing dramatically in recent times.
Let’s learn from our failures in the past and try to play a positive role. The case raised is not a matter of Lidetu alone, but it is an issue that concerns all Ethiopians. I think what we have witnessed from the ‘Medrek’ group is a worrying sign of undemocratic direction in the opposition. Also, widening the differences amongst opposition groups will not help the struggle in general. We should fight such old-style politicians and extremist ethnic parties, if we are looking for a new approach to establish a democratic system and strengthen the unity of that country.

I do not know weather his political agenda will be good for ethiopia or not. But what i can say is that Lidetu is the smartest person from all the former kinijit persons. He could predict what was going to happen. On the other hand power hungry people like berhanu could not even see what was coming. Berhanu’s effort to shield himself behind other opposition members so as to jump to power when the time is right was exposed by Lidetu. So it is no wonder that former kinijits do not like him.
The fact that he feels unfair pressure from Medrek is also another indication that Medrek are afraid of lidetu, again another sign of how smart he is.

Lidetu is one of the disgraceful bandas or traitors who ever existed in our country. The bandas like lidetu should face more severe punishment than the ethno-fascists whom he is serving. It is not uncommon to see individuals such as Lidetu who are playing very disgraceful and dirty political game to fill their stomach at the very expense of innocent people. To all Ethiopians,
I never support Lidetu as individual because I don’t know him personally. I was supporting his party policy and his stand against ethnic based TPLF at least by my heart. Never financially or as an activist but he has been proof right in my opinion so far except his support to Somalias invasion and his unwillingness to negotiate with other opposion parts. In this regard the other opposition leaders are the worst. The like of Dr. Birhanu and Ato Hailu Shewal. I think they are mature enough to bring him round the table for the seek of our people. Instead they start vilification campain against this individual. He is a modern polititian.
To me let’s stop back biting and blaming one an other and work to create new Ethiopia where all human being treated as a human being. NOT BY GOD GIVING LANGUAGE!! It is disgusting what is happeng in our land.

The people of Ethiopia rejected Lidetu because he betrayed his words.He tried to play silly game on the people of Ethiopia.The mistake on Lidetu is not because of supprting TPLF but he suddenly changed his tone on TPLF after driving the people to stand against TPLF.He did not show respect to the people.He thought that he could manipulate and tune the people’s mind.Lidetu has a long time support from Prof.Edrias Eshete and other Inter-Africa Group members.I share the idea that Lidetu could be selected as Prime Minister and Meles as president like Putin.It is so foolishness to think that the democratic government could be establised while TPLF is on power.I support the method of struggle of Ginbot7

EDP is marching forward with the people of Ethiopia. Their next stop will be Bahir Dar. Like Addis Ababa and Awassa, the people of Bahir Dar are awaiting eagerly for their turn to discuss on maters that are important for themselves and Ethiopia at large. As was the case in Addis Ababa and Awassa, Bahir Dar will be liberated soon from the old guard feudal old aged so called politicians.

Lidetu knows very well that his style of politics is not viable. Therefore, his only way out is to solicit power from the tplf. That is exactly what he is doing right now. Tplf will reward anyone who is willing to attack and weaken the more threatening political parties. Lidetu’s attack on G7 by a state media facilitated by Meles Zenawi was a good example. As a matter of fact, in the future, they will parade him around to attack political orgs operating inside and outside the country. My guess is he will be rewarded with a few parliament seats for him to stick around for a few more years and continue his job of undermining the opposition. As long as we know him, we can educate the public about him and discredit him.

After reading these comemts, I share the point of view of Fikre, Kassy, and Ezana, partially. Kinjit atfer having an intense debate with Lidetu, lost Lidetu, who then moved into the parliament, by not supporting the boycott along with his EDP members. It took a lot of effort by Engineer Hailu Shawel to reverse the vote to uphold the boycott by the rest of the rest of the parties and members. Ketedamena lidership would have their way at the time to have general vote in favour of joining the parliament or move into the parliament like Lidetu did instead of adhering by the majority vote brought about by the by Engineer Hailu Shawel, which was supported by the constituency. Lidetu’s move was political and self serving and abandonining Kinijit. It was a big loss to party more than it would have been had Kestedamena leadership moved with with some of its members. Professor Beyne Petros has joined the parliament against the party members vote and later on his constituency in U.S.A. Both of these parlamentarians joined the parliament to accomodate their self interest, rather than the party they represent, while one as loyalist opposition carries a national agenda the other carries ethnic agenda, operating within the confines of TPLF/eprdf.
UDJP leadership were perhaps emulating both of the above leareship when it form formed UDJP as a product of K-5, supported by KIL-6, now which formed an armed wing are no different than the above two learedeships, operating within the confines of TPLF/eprdf and embracing ethnic based agenda. Ethinic based and secessionist agenda are the focal points separating the hardliners, TPLF and the so called moderates.
I do not know where to place Lidetu od EDP with the national agenda working with in the confines of TPLF/eprdf as simply self serving adjunct party to TPLF, without condoning the harm he caused to Kinijit.

Ethiopia is a source country for men, women, and children trafficked primarily for the purposes of forced labor and, to a lesser extent, for commercial sexual exploitation. Rural Ethiopian children are trafficked for domestic servitude and, less frequently, for commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor in agriculture, traditional weaving, gold mining, street vending, and begging.
Young women from all parts of Ethiopia are trafficked for domestic servitude, primarily to Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, but also to Bahrain, Djibouti, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. Djibouti, Egypt, and Somaliland are reportedly the main transit routes for trafficked Ethiopians.
Some women are trafficked into the sex trade after arriving at their destinations. Small numbers of men are trafficked to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States for low-skilled forced labor. While the number of registered labor migration employment agencies rose from 36 to 90 between 2005 and 2008, the government significantly tightened its implementation of regulations governing these agencies over the same period. This resulted in an increase in trafficked Ethiopians transiting neighboring countries rather than traveling directly to Middle Eastern destinations.
The Government of Ethiopia does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking; however, it is making significant efforts to do so. While the Ethiopian government’s ongoing efforts to provide pre-departure orientation to Ethiopian migrant workers and partner with a local NGO to detect cases of child trafficking within the country are notable, its limited capacity to prosecute trafficking crimes is a continued cause for concern. Police investigators remain unable to properly distinguish trafficking cases from those of other crimes or to conduct thorough investigations, and the judicial system routinely is unable to track the status of trafficking cases moving through the courts.
Recommendations for Ethiopia: Improve the investigative capacity of police and enhance judicial understanding of trafficking to allow for more prosecutions of trafficking offenders, particularly perpetrators of internal child trafficking; institute trafficking awareness training for diplomats posted overseas; engage Middle Eastern governments on improving protections for Ethiopian workers and developing a mechanism to refer trafficking victims for assistance; partner with local NGOs to increase the level of services available to trafficking victims returning from overseas; and launch a campaign to increase awareness of internal trafficking at the local and regional levels.
Prosecution
While the government sustained its efforts to prosecute and punish international trafficking offenders and initiated investigations of internal child trafficking during the reporting period, prosecution of internal trafficking cases remained nonexistent. In addition, law enforcement entities continued to exhibit an inability to distinguish human trafficking from smuggling, rape, abduction, and unfair labor practices. Articles 596 through 600 and 635 of Ethiopia’s Penal Code prohibit all forms of trafficking for labor and sexual exploitation.
The Federal High Court’s 11th Criminal Bench was established in late 2007 to hear cases of transnational trafficking, as well as any trafficking cases discovered in the jurisdiction of Addis Ababa. In June 2008, the court sentenced a man under Proclamation 104/1998 to 15 years’ imprisonment and fined him $1,357 for illegally sending an Ethiopian woman to Lebanon where she was forced to work as a domestic servant and later thrown from a building by her employer. A second defendant received five years’ imprisonment and a $452 fine for facilitating the same woman’s trafficking for domestic servitude. In 2008, police at Addis Ababa’s central bus terminal received 899 reports of internal child trafficking, an increase over the previous year.
However, unlike prior reporting periods, the unit did not provide statistics on the number of cases referred to the prosecutor’s office in 2008 or the status of cases referred to the prosecutor’s office in the preceding year. Some local police and border control agents are believed to have accepted bribes to overlook trafficking.

Stealing girls and boys from their home and isolating from their parents is a gross violation of children and a waste of national treasure. This anti-Ethiopia distructive activity has been carried out by members and supporters of the current unwanted and uninvited invading regime;most he deal has been caried out according to the promise that invading forces made to Ethiopia’s natural and historical enemies who are the masters of members of the family.

He was AAPO, AEUP and all the rest except OLF for he hates the Oromos though he was born in Oromia region, brought up and educated by Oromo’s wealth. He then became EDP-Medhin and then Kinijit until 2005. Now, he is a die-hard EDP and through that too, has been serving the Woyane thugs. He is a very shameless opportunist. As a result of that too, they say, he grasses Ethiopians who oppossed Woyane at meetings and many demonstrations and when some of them goes to Ethiopia, they got arrested and punished. He has put many families in trouble in Ethiopia and there is a blood in his hands. Therefore, to allow this blood-sucker to insult us and advertise his stupid EDP on this EMF is beyond me. Are we allowed on Aiga to glamorise Kinijit?
Lidetu is a known banda and all the people you saw at his recent meetings are not EDP supporters and members as they boasted but TPLF cadres to use him for their “oppositions are free in Ethiopia” to conduct meetings propaganda. He is not only a poisoned or cornered rat as shown in the picture above but the worst traitor Ethiopia has ever seen in her history. He has got thousands arrested and costed Kinijit a victory in 2005. Now, he came out to attack the opposition after he helped put the Ginbot 7 supporters in prison as terrorists. He should be tried in court in future not be an MP in our country. And YHM, can continue barking and crying blood through his eyes, ears and smelly bum but he cannot fool no one. Yared Hailemeskel (YHM) lives in another weird planet. What do you expect from a brother of Aleme, Buriw, Dure, Ezna, Tsion, Gurmu and Qondala. And of course as Aba rightly said Ewnetu Tigrai’s biggest Ketafi Leba, Asmesay and barking dog of TPLF too? Guya, have you visited other sites to read Ewunetu (Wushetu) crap. Don’t, it would make you puke or vommit.
As you know Obang appealed to Tigrians who support TPLF to join us to reconcile our differences and be one and only one nation. In response to that honourable and genuine call, Ewunetu who someone rightly called Wushetu flooded us with TPLF propaganda falsely claiming that he is an Amhara man. He never commented on Obang’s good call at all. He took Obang’s as begging them for our survivals not their survivals. I wonder if these stupid Tigrians have a brain at all and they are Ethiopians too? They rob us, terrorise us, torture us, imprison us, kill us and then tell us all were good things for the suffered and dead souls. That is what so-called Ewnetu but Wushetu is lecturing us too? Wild and dangerous animals are much better than these Tigrians and their servants who are bloody thirsty hoddams and cannibals. They should not deserve to live.

EDP & Banda Lidetu are just dead & buried, why you waste your time as if it is a core issue.
Some hope less people are trying to back the dead EDP but may be because they don’t have choice except supporting EPRDF and pick some leftovers in Ethiopia like Lidetu Ayalew!
