This is the kind of message that Ethiopians need to hear in stead of every opposition group attacking each other. G-7 does not oppose any opposition parties the problem in the diaspora are the Kinijit leaders and followers who are spreading campaign smear against G-7 and Dr. Berhanu. When in fact they should just strengthen their party while supporting other pro Ethiopia parties such as G-7 despite some differences. When opposition parties fiercely critical of the other means there is greed and hunger for power. Now is not the time. This is not democrat and republican situation this is to bring democracy towards Ethiopia period. Once that settled then the opposition parties can run against eachother for election when the country is stable. You have to have stable country where there is rule of law before you are running for power. In fact, this is how I even support that, to get involved with moderate Tigreans for election although it is rare to find because they are all staunch supporters of TPLF. The way to penetrate TPLF is through the support of moderate Tigreans once that happened it is the end of tPLF. TPLF is still surviving because of the majority Tigreans who believe TPLF stands for them. When in fact they don’t know it TPLF is isolating Tigreans thinking Tigreans will rule for ever and ever. With the tension too much blatant racism going in Ethiopia they are shortening their power and causing ethnic tension in Ethiopia that NEVER occured before.

While I am in favor of cooperation, I would never trust EPRP. EPRP is just a party of a few crazed individuals in the diaspora who have thirst to destroy anything and everything. EPRP is a disease that needs to be eradicated.
This “call for joining hands” is nothing but an attempt on their part to stay relevant.
I don’t think there is any advantage for any other group to team up with EPRP. They will just be giving the latter one unnecessary importance and relevance.
On the other hand, though, it shows me how far the fear of Ginbot 7 is going. All those who know they will be losing plenty if this group succeeds in overthrowing the regime are taking sides. People take notice.

I am always sad when I see such messages calling for unity. Who is the call for? For us, the readers? If not what is the point in everyone saying “please let’s unite” and then doing nothing for its achievement. That is the father of all hypocrasys.
There are simple things you can do if you really want and can work in unison with others to free yourself (not others) from tyrany:
-Just pick up the phone and call the leaders of the other opositoin parties who you haven’t talked to in ages (That takes real courage).
-Think about which points you are willing to give up in reaching a compromised deal. If you are not willing to give up on anything then stop preaching about unity. When you hold your political views religiously, why do you expect others to give up on some of their goals and work with you?
That is it. As simple as it may sound, it takes a lot of courage to carry out. If you claim to be a politician do just these two things overcoming your fear of dealing with others on a personal level and your emotions.
If not, please just let Meles continue opress the people and please keep your mouths shut. You are going to be responsible anyways- history will not make you free of Meles’s crimes just because you condemend him. What have you DONE beyond just talk and “meglecha” to stop him? That is the question.

Is this EPRP a political organisation, civic organisation, or a bussiness company? I don’t really know about the purpose of this organisation and what it is doing? I know there was ‘EPRP’ a politicical organisation some 30 years back, but that has been hijacked by anti-Ethiopian elements and caused the slaughter of tens of thousands of Ethiopians brave sons & daughters and finally disapeared from the political arena. It is only the ethno-fascists in power and their followers who dread and panick over the unity of Ethiopians and the opposition parties. The call for unity should be translated into action on the ground by calling a comprehensive conference or meeting of all the country`s opposition forces. A united and consolidated opposition with all the necessary groundwork to fill the vacuum to be left when the ethno-fascistic regime of Meles Zenawi, is what the country urgently needs now. In the event of losing power, the ethno-fascists will declare secession and the country may break up into ethnic regions as prepared by Meles Zenawi.
The united opposition with presence in the country can prevent the ethno-fascist Meles Zenawi from executing his final exit startegy by breaking up the country.

The purely tigre regime of Meles Zenawi is losing control in many ways and a slight push can bring it down.The crack in the regime is obvious because its non-tigre hirelings and appendages are openly complaining about discrimination and racism. The communities in the south are bearing the brunt of weyanne racism and dissent and dissatisfaction are spreading in the region. The administrative structure and resources in the south are totally controlled by the weyanne racists and corruption and robbery have become rampant. Despite its richness and enjoying an abundance of resources, the south is receiving little or nothing to develop it. The racists are looting the region to enrich themselves and are transferring our resources to develop their ethnic homeland. False southern opposition figures like Professor Beyene Petros are cooperating with and serving the racist weyannes and getting some crumbs or firfari in return from the regime. It is known that Professor Beyene Petros has begun serving the racists and being their tool since 1991 when they gave him the symbolic post of vice-minister in the ministry of education.
Despite his long services to the racists, he has been suffering degradation and humiliations at the hands of the racists like any other person from the south.

Effective and fruitful cooperation and unity among the opposition forces precludes the searching and removal of the weyanne agents planted in the opposition parties. The TPLF has considerable experience in inflitrating the opposition groups and destroying or weakening them. The other important step for the opposition is to agree on common issues like boycotting all economic and social institutions belonging to the TPLF and its associates. The members and supporters of the TPLF including the HODAMS should be excluded from any kind of Ethiopian associations or institutions. Opposition forces like genbot7 should call for a total boycott of the TPLF and its affliates. It is also important to bring to the attention of the immigration officials of the west the fact that the members and supporters of the TPLF are abusing the asylum institutions to stay in their countries. The list of the members and supporters of the TPLF should be handed over to the immigration officials urging them to withdraw the stay permits they have issued to these TPLF scoundrels.
The TPLF are abusing western aid money in Ethiopia and should not be allowed to do so with the asylum institutions.

The EPRP has made the right move in calling upon all the multi-ethnic opposition forces to stop bashing each other and target only the weyanne enemy. I think nobody knows the weyannes so good as the EPRP does since they have fought several battles against the weyannes.
The EPRP has a clear and justifiable official position of declaring and treating the weyannes as the enemy of Ethiopia and Ethiopians. The EPRP is the pioneer advocate and promoter of the multi-faceted national struggle against the ethno-racist regime of Meles Zenawi. Genbot7 as a movement is following the same method of struggle too. The scope for cooperation between the two and others is wide and I hope they will start to work together focusing on the similarity of their goals. The key leaders of genbot7 were the former members of the EPRP and TPLF with a great deal of experience. Genbot7 is now one of the biggest sources of headache to the ethno-racist regime of Meles and is increasing the pressure on the regime to come to the negotiating table or face its demise.

Humm.. the timing of this appeal is, to say the least, suspicious… only few days after G7 made a similar call! Of course EPRP hates coalitions that leaves him on the sideline; remember Kinijit. The problem with EPRP is that if it joins a coalition, it can’t accept anything less than the driver seat.
But the good doctor of G7 ain’t fool. He made the appeal exclusively for those organizations that have physical presence in Ethiopia. We all know this shouldn’t concern EPRP which consist of a bunch of frustrated “almot by tegaday” political dinosaurs scattered here in America and Europe.

Political organizations as old as EPRP or as new as Ginbot7 and others are formed by individuals who organized themselves spending their time and money to get a support of the people to put in practice what they believe to alleviate the problems of our country.
For the first time in our long history of governance the Ethiopian masses were allowed to vote four years ago in May 15, 2005. By landslide they voted for Kinijit, guided by the rallying cry , “Tebaberu Weyeme Tesebaberu”, unite or perish.
As Dr.Birhanu of Ginbot7 replying for the Ginbot7 alleged coup few weeks ago, he reminded all that the actual coup took place four years ago on Ginbot 8, May 16, 2005 under the leadership of Meles Zenawi. Ethiopians are living under terror since then and the regime is now purging its army from non-Tigreans at leadership level to rule us for a very long time.
Accusation of parties with facts and innuendos to advance ones own interest is part of the political game too aside using army to hold on or to get power. We all remembered the accusation of “Interhawe” by Melese to bring Tigreans to his camp unsuccessfuly. Some of the comment above also seem to follow such pattern, love ones party and hate the other one.
However,the call of parties to work together as demanded by our people four years ago is still true. Members and supporters of the opposition parties in the Diaspora should write and call their parties to take the initiative to call the other parties as Hana suggested above. Just pick the phone, no more no less.
The websites of these parties should also encourage dialogues on their pages. The call to work together by EPRP is an appropriate call and I would like to see it in flesh and blood to empower our people.

People please, let us try to tolerate one another even EPRP. However, unless they are rejected by all ethiopians I think EPRP could be a vehicle towards how tPLF functions and its characters. So there is something that EPRP can do if they believe they truly want democratic and just Ethiopia. You see, when some one is at fault even to the point of being traitor they have to reverse back the crime they committed by giving back to the Ethiopian people what Ethiopia needs towards their road to democracies and rights. That is how we forgive them this means they have taken accountability and responsiblity for their own actions. That is how we have to function. It doesn’t mean that we have to trust them.

The move against TPLF is a message that would be wel-comed by G-7. However, it may be seen in suspicious manner by anti-Ethiopians. G-7 leaders, Dr Birhanu and Ato Andargachew, know about EPRP more than the anti-Ethiopians. Whether they join hands or not is not the question now. The focus is dismantling TPLFs both at home and in the diaspora.

If there are against this call, I think, it will be coming only from TPLF elements. Everybody who wants to see the removal of this dictator regime must welcome EPRP’s call for joint struggle against the meles zenawi ethno-dictatorial regime. I only home that their call is sincere and they are hones to work together. To be honest, after Lidetu’s betrayal, many ethiopians have lost trust on some of the political parties who have been hiding during this hard time for the Ethiopian people.

Though I believe in unity, I do not trust the EPRP people. After the formation of AFD, they were the ones who tried hard to attack Kinijit and its leaders more than woyane did.
EPRP is a party of the past and it should stay so. Every unity or cooperation with EPRP is doomed to fail.
We have to support parties who do not attack the opposition and try to weaken the opposition. EPRP is a dead party and should stay so. They will only create problems. Nothing more!
And EMF should not post garbages from EPRP and Walta like it did in the last days. It will only boost the attention of the people to these useless organizations.

I am surprised by this kind of maturity from EPRP. If they are serious and want to contribute to the democratization of Ethiopia, they should be taken seriously. I had a lot of respect for EPRP, but, I was bewildered by their behavior in the last few years. From reducing such a big and grand party to local tribal bickerings to engaging in outright ridiculous conspiracy theories, EPRP almost lost its bearing. However, my confidence in the party is recovering when I see such mature approach to the issues we are facing. I totally agree that our enemy is tplf and only tplf. Let’s all work together and remove it from power.

Before I write down my comment on the article I want to say something about EPRP itself.EPRP was the first party who was successful to organize the people under its umbrella around the end of 1960’s Ethiopian calender,the way EPRP organized people was: womens,students,younger,workers,even very young under age Ethiopians under different organizations structured based on EPRP’s so called iron discipline.
Many Ethiopians specially very young students who are b/n the age of 14-20 are the majority members ,such as: Ethiopian Students Organization and All Ethiopian Youth Organization…etc,those young Ethiopians organized as a member under the structure were very brave who had no hesitation to give their life for the struggle and aim of People power,prosperity and peaceful life and equality for all Ethiopians.Every one thought that EPRP,who organized them was stood up on their side to the end for that principle,and enormous amount of life was sacrificed by those brave young men and women who loved their country and their people,but the situation was completely changed by the so called EPRP and its leaders by the creation of factions inside the party and all the organizations under it from the top down.EPRP who had upper hand over DERG was suddenly became in dangered by its own members who were surrendered themselves to DERG,that was the time DERG declared “ABYOTACHEN KETKELAKAYENET TO WODE ATEKiNET TESHEGAGERE”,and it was one of the worst moment for the Ethiopian youngesters,many many of them were killed on the streets of Ethiopia with our no justice,just only by being suspected of EPRP member;and many others were mass imperisoned in KEFETEGANA,KEBELE….etc prisons,and tortured and treated inhumanly.
I am very proud of those brave Ethiopians Who died and gave their precious life to their country and people,and also appreciated those who are alive now and tortured in different parts of Ethiopia KEFTEGNA and KEBELE prisons.I never ever stop thinking about those who died for freedom on those days until the day of my last breath.
It seems like a joke to me to here the name EPRP after all these time out side of Ethiopia and still not stopped splitting in to pieces and acting like the old previous time EPRP and celebrating with a candle light of its birth day by counting years with out nothing,Empty dream,and its moderate members are distracting other Ethiopians from working together against TPLF for the freedom of the country and its people,instead different opposition parties and their members are accusing and insulting each other which doesn’t take them no where other than being everyday the same place where they are before.
Finally I want to say one thing for all Opposition parties and their members,it is not the time to throw stone each other,please learn from the past, no opposition party by it self brings change in Ethiopia,if we really talked about the people of Ethiopia and the country itself,there is one thing we all talking about every day on our discussion that is the brutal administration of TPLF over the Ethiopian people,so let us work together only on that agenda,by working together and creating a temporary group which is including all parties who are against TPLF regime to talk about the transition of power in piece after the fall of the regime;that is how we make the time shorter,the rest of our political agenda will be judged by the Ethiopian people later after freedom.

Dear all,
Please let us have our sense back. Let us slow down, listen up and digest the situation. Let us stop lableng and insulting each other. Where are we now and where are we heading and what is our common goal brothers. Woyane is at the verge of falling down though it needs some united organised external forse to finalise its death for once and for all.
Thus, what is wrong any party or organisation or a group or person for that matter to step up and intiate way or forum or temperoray organisation to unite us and our resourses. If this possible brothers we can do a lot more than removing this baseless empty mafia group. I call all oppostions to second this idea (EPRP meglecha) and put into action urgently.
Some of us are very emotional and think that can attain our goal tonight due to the fact that we supported or gave the first one time contribution to that or this party or front or movement. And we feel that we owned the same organisation. Let us stop such opportunistic and emotional activity w/c could adversly affect our common goal ie., removing tribal regime and establish democracy. I give credit to EPRp (Democratic or conservative?) to step up intiate this noble idea of unity. I want some body, party or front to come up the with plan of action in regards of the objective ie., unity.

The good thing is: there are no young EPRPs and EPRP will die along with the very few old and sick individuals.
EPRP is irrelevant. It doesn’t exist. The only place it exists is in the heads of these crazy people.
As Dr. B was saying in his speech, cooperation needs to be made with groups that have PRESENCE on the ground. Not presence on the web space. Or not presence on few people’s imaginations.
EPRP is not doing anything inside Ethiopia. In fact, they have not done anything even in the past. The only “idea” they were able to come up with was to start an urban warfare. We all know how beneficial that was.
They do not know how to build. They only know how to destroy.

After reading all these comments I came to feel that there are people who are comfortable under this brutal regime. But, one point you need to imagine is:
-the suffering of majority of Ethiopians living to day,
-the people living without food, health care, drinking water, …
-if you have a sister her suffering in Middle East,
-the pain of your farmer father or brother, …
Nothing more than this can bring us together.
Otherwise in one way or another we are contributing!!!
We couldn’t have any reason that keeps us pointing each other for the blames!
Competing for power among political parties is natural but the decision should be left for the people.

Is this EPRP a political organisation, civic organisation, or a bussiness company? I don’t really know about the purpose of this organisation and what it is doing? I know there was ‘EPRP’ a politicical organisation some 30 years back, but that has been hijacked by anti-Ethiopian elements and caused the slaughter of tens of thousands of Ethiopians brave sons & daughters and finally disapeared from the political arena. Can you, please, inform the current ‘EPRP’ to tell us in more detail what it is, what it is doing, why it exists?

Don’t take EPRP’s call for unity seriously. Of course, we all support and believe in the strength of unity. But just because it is something desirable, we are not going to consider anyone uttering the word ‘unity’ to be a righteous or not always consider such a call as a sign of the dawn of hope in the political struggle.
For me, EPRP as a political organisation doesn’t exist, it is just trying to show its feeble ghost like presence by some nostalgic presonalities who can not accept the bitter truth of the death of EPRP. EPRP is trying to exploit the current heated political situation in Ethiopia by making non-genuine calls like this just by sitting behind computer screens. We shouldnät let such hopeless and desperate personalities make a PR work spoiling meaningful political opportunities for really concerned Ethiopians.

Nega! you are absolutely write in your premise but your concluding statement, “Competing for power among political parties is natural but the decision should left for the people”, does not seem to be a logical conclusion to solve the crises in Ethiopia or the disintegration of the country. People need leadership to coalesce around and that leadership exists in TPLF, UDJP and/or Medrek, AEUP, EPRP, UEDF, etc. which have different stance/objectives in addressing the crises mentioned above, they are are not in a campaign mode to compete for power yet, they are competing interms of the ideals to free Ethiopians and save the country from disintegration.
To unite/come together, setting asside their differences as EPRP leader, mentioned does not work, because these differnces in objectives are so big, they canot replace one for the other, as was the case between UDJP and AEUP, UEDF made up of two factions and EPRP and other faction with UEDF in the last conference. I do not know What the EPRP leader is talking about.
Leave the parties as they are, but call a conference to scrutinze about the differences and let the diaspora supporters make their decisions as to who they want to rally behind, TPLF, the moderates in terms of their resistance to TPLF, and the hardliners with national agenda.

EPRP is a hypocrite party. Its leaders, while enjoying the fruits of Liberal/Social Democracy by residing here in the US or Europe, are trying to impose Ex-Russian/Ex-Albanian/current Chinese style of democracy on the Ethiopian people. I hate them. But the good thing about Liberal/Social Democracy is that you allow political space even to Nazis. So I think EPRP should be allowed to function as a party; but working with a party whose ideology is diametrically opposite to one’s ideology does now work at all. So G7 should not cooperate with them. EPRP members: we would have trusted you if you were living in China, and if you were trying to promote your political agenda from Beijing. Don’t you know being called “ehe-apa” in Ethiopia is an insult nowadays?

I totally agree with your points! But the question now is to save our country from disintegration! There is no compromise on this point that brings us together.
I forwarded my idea only from this angle. After we have achieved this objective the next responsibility can be given for the Ethiopian people. I have a strong feeling that our people know which alternative will be best for the country. I’m sure nationalist and Albanian ideologies have no space in Ethiopia (demonstrated on May 15).
