Sudanese – Tigray Talks begin in Gedarif

Gedarif, May 13 (SUNA) – Sudanese – Ethiopian talks began Tuesday in Gedarif city between the Gedarif State and Tigray Region.

The Sudanese side was headed by the Wali (governor), Al-Daw Osman Hassan Al-Faki, while the Ethiopian party was chaired by the Governor of Tigray Region. Executive, legislative and security leaderships attended the meeting.

At the opening sitting, the Wali (governor) of Gedarif State appreciated the deeply rooted and distinguished relations between Sudan and Ethiopia, adding that convocation of this meeting came in application of a recommendation of the recently 11TH Conference on Development of the Border Area between Sudan and Ethiopia which was held in Damazin and called for exchange of visits between the bordering Sudanese and Ethiopian regions.

The Wali praised the firm stance of the Ethiopian people in support of Sudan and their rejection to the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Sudan.

He asserted Gedarif State keenness to consolidate its relation with the neighbouring Tigray Region.

He affirmed that work is progressing to complete the establishment of Al-Humra – Shuwak road, boosting the cultural and trade exchange and to implement all the protocols and agreements which were signed by Sudan and Ethiopia. Meanwhile, the Governor of Tigray Region described the Sudanese – Ethiopian relations as the strongest and best in the region.

He reiterated his country’s rejection to the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Sudan government and people.

He said that the relations between the two countries will not be affected by any troubles caused by outlaw and criminals at the joint border area.

The talks between Gedarif State and Tigray Region will continue through three political, security, trade and culture and agriculture and health committees. MO/MO
