OLF – Based on the reunification agreement signed on September 27, 2010, the OLF Unification Committee
held its meeting from March 8-12, 2011. The Committee has successfully completed the steps necessary
to resolve the internal differences that have sapped the energy and resources of our people over the last
three years. Accordingly, we are happy to announce that the basis for the reconciliation of OLF is finalized.
We take this opportunity to thank the founders of OLF for their exemplary effort in making this a
The success of this effort is a great victory to OLF and the Oromo people. It not only symbolizes the ability
of our beloved organization to respond to the wishes and aspirations of the Oromo people for unity but
also demonstrates the fact that OLF is an embodiment of the Oromo people’s rich heritage of tolerance,
dialogue, compromise, reconciliation, and mutual accommodation.
We also call upon our members and supporters to unreservedly embrace the unity of OLF by burying the
hatchet of mistrust, overcoming bickering, leaving the division of the recent past to history and rather redoubling their efforts to strengthen the organization and mobilize our society for victory. We want to remind
our compatriots that conflict is an inevitable part of life. We also may not have the capacity to erase
at once all the harms caused by this regrettable conflict. All we can do is to work to redress feelings hurt
and to draw valuable lessons from it and chart a better future. Furthermore, we need to realize that the win
-win peace which is concluded is of paramount importance to rejuvenate the legitimate struggle of our
aggrieved population, not to mention the demand of the time.
Having achieved its internal organizational consolidation, the OLF is ready to work in tandem with organizations, movements and forces struggling for freedom and democracy in Ethiopia to speedily remove
the minority dictatorial regime. We therefore take this opportunity to call on the Oromo and all peoples of
Ethiopia to take advantage of the current wind of revolutionary change in the region and prepare to rise up
in unison to boldly usher in a new era of peace, stability, justice, freedom, and democracy.
Victory to the Oromo people!
