Nine senior TPLF leaders left the organization

21 MARCH 2013

Nine veteran members of the TPLF, including  Seyoum Mesfin, Berhan G/Kirstos, Sebhat Nega, Arkebe Equbay and Zeray Asgedom have left the organization, according to sources from Addis ababa.

Concluding its ninth convention, the senior partner in the ruling coalition, TPLF has elevated for the first time since its formation, a woman to its political bureau, making two of the nine politbureau members women, Fortune learnt.

Tirfu Kidanemariam, who was vice chairperson of the Tigray Women Association (TWA) in 2008, has now joined Azeb Mesfin in the TPLF’s top political body. Azeb was elected to the political bureau in 2010, the first woman to ever make it that high in the TPLF. Tirfu is a spouse to the party’s chairman and chief of the regional administration, Abay Woldu. She is head of TPLF’s all too powerful organisational affairs bureau. She has been elected to the central committee of the TPLF since 1999, and has also served as head of the region’s justice bureau.

As expected by those following the region’s political development, Tsegaye Berhe, a former chief of the regional state and current chairman of the National Security Council; and Abadi Zemo, Ethiopia’s ambassador to Sudan, have left the political bureau, upon their request, according to sources. They are replaced by Alem G. Wahid and Gebrehawariya Woldu, both veteran political operatives of the regional administration, heading various administrations at zone levels, according to our sources.

TPLF central committee, which has seen the departure of nine of its veteran members such as Seyoum Mesfin, Arkebe Oqubay, Brehane Gebrekirstos and Zeray Asgedom, has left its chairman and deputy intact. Abay Woldu and Debretsion Gebremikael will continue to lead the party as chairman and deputy.

The three other parities in the coalition are holding their respective congresses, thus elections to their political bureaus is expected soon. Political pundits are expect hardly any change in the compositions of their senior leaders, however.

“As the Amharic saying goes “dimet begele” yemibalewen yemeslal yezih tsihuf hateata, when we all know that TPLF has evolved by extinction, expulsion, by division and now by retirement of senior members, when we all that TPLF as the architect of the ideologies of ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism built into the constitution and spearhead of nations and nationalities against oppression by the previous regime and creating parties aligned with ethnic agenda rather than national agenda for unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty of Ethiopia and Ethiopians, where the last item refers to individual freedom, liberty to exceed ethnic and secessionist rights without which democracy, democratic parties and democratic government with independent branches of government are unthinkable as it prevails in the United States for example, with its constitution centered around the individual, “We the people” not peoples, but one people and one nation, but not nations.

All cries for democracy, human rights, justice are the products of the struggle for freedom of the individual and against the current constitution of ethnic federalism as opposed to state federalism of the original provinces, secessionism, whereby no ethnic group OLF, ONLF and TPLF in particular have the right to secede from Ethiopia, not to mention Eritrea in the pretext of a colonization by the previous regimes, and yet ruling the country in the style of an ex-apartheid regime of South Africa for the most part, perpetrating economic, political, economic and environmental crises as well as exploitation, political, and economic strangle of the countries resources and its people by TPLF, TPLF affiliated enterprises, cadres and foreign corporations as major points of contentions remain the same no matter what changes take place in terms of Officials of the TPLF Political bureau.

In the context of above paradigms, and the constitution, the articles subject to ratification are Article 2, the flag, 46 ethnic federalism, 39(1), secessionism, 8, the sovereignty of Ethiopia and the precedence of individual freedom, liberty and equality ahead of ethnic and secessionist rights and the alignments of parties along national agenda competing on their ideas how to govern and develop the nation and the society as one nation, one flag and one language while allowing for the developments of languages cultures and religions freely without the interference of the government by resorting to the original provinces to form State federalism, by repealing ethnic federalism, which is a prelude to secessionism and future boundary disputes among the major ethnic groups as was the case with Eritrea after secession with private ownership of land anywhere in Ethiopia as one of the means of production in a free market capitalism and liberal democracy, left or right leaning liberal democracy.

And yet this ideal, would not be reached wearing ethnic agenda, endorsing the current constitution and vouching for democracy and justice as a subset of the national agenda, with human rights as common agenda to those with national and ethnic agenda, that is being espoused by one or two segments of OLF, forming an alliance with Ginbot 7,(AFD2), not a merger but alliance and/or with OPDM/Medrek/EFDF/fdre, which are bound to maintain ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism in tact as core issues in the constitution stipulated above.

In addition to invasion, occupation and establishing ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism built into the constitution, by ex-liberation fronts spearheaded by TPLF, and signatory(ies) to the Charter, the first order of business was to massacre the Amhara ethnic group in the other ethnic groups, and annex certain adjacent districts to the Tigrai region followed by the recent expulsion and confisication of Amhara ethnic group from Benshangul and other regions together with extra judicial killing by the Killil Mengistat/administration. This added dimention of ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism as constitutional framework, dominated by ethnic and secessionist rights to detriment of individual rights, has contributed to the prevalence of internal refugee crises of the Amahara ethnic group, human right violations in addition to the ideologies serving as a prelude to secessionism, future boundary conflicts among the major four ethnic groups espoused by TPLF/eprdf regime and its mirror images with ethnic agenda positioning themselves to engage TPLF/eprdf regime for democracy and justice, leaving the constitution with ethnic federalism, secessionism intact to establish a self government of the Oromo ethnic group. What a joke. One can also observe a deceptive, subversive politics in UDJP, including its name, and the abbreviation “andinet party” with a flag carrying emblem used by the recent general assembly of TPLF/eprdf members wearing baseball hats, hinting on its support of the constitution, but having problem with the TPLF/eprdf regime on democracy and justice and human rights as a common denominator to all parties and factions, while maintaining their alignment along ethnic lines and ethnic self governments instead of coalescing with national agenda for unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty of Ethiopia and Ethiopians.

As a maxim unity among the opposition parties against the TPLF/eprdf regime is created only by uniting over the common goals for unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty of Ethiopia and Ethiopians in contrast to current constitutional frame work and party alignment along ethnic lines, and resorting to the original provincial boundries and developing the country across ecological regions as Northern and central highlands, the Rift Valley the South Eastern Highlands and the South and South Western Savanna of sub-humid tropics, cutting across provincial boundaries in a joint effort by those provinces, but not by ethnic division of Ethiopian land mass by the major ethnic groups as self government as envisioned by Lencho Letta of ex-OLF liberation front which left
the TPLF/eprdf regime of ex-liberation fronts to secede from Ethiopia to posture as OPDF for justice and democracy an idea espoused by UDJP as a subset of the national agenda along Tigrai- Harena, a dissident of TPLF and others with ethnic rather than national agenda with TPLF/eprdf and its ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism intact does not create a precedence for democracy and justice, without putting individual rights ahead of ethnic and secessionist rights, and stipulating independent braches of government in the constitution under the control of TPLF political bureau crying for “yekillil mengistat ikullent mekeber” and opening of political space as if it is a quantitative item with respect to the election process mostly by Medrek/OPDO/EFDF/fdre, posing as an alternative to the TPLF/eprdf regime, when its agenda is a mirror image of TPLF/eprdf in terms of the layout of the political model stated above, which sets them part from the positive forces of integration for unity, territorial integrity and sovereignity of Ethiopia and Ethiopians.

Correction: the word “part” should read as “which sets them “apart” from the positive forces of integration in the last remark.
