Netherlands parliament attacks Zenawi’s NGO Law

The Dutch ParliamentEMF (3 December 2008) The Dutch parliament expressed its greatest concern on Zenawi’s draft law that would criminalize many activities of foreign non-governmental organizations in Ethiopia. In a letter addressed to Teshome Toga, the parliament says, “it (the draft law)  became an obstacle to our common goal to millennium development.” [To read it, click here] Earlier this year, the Dutch parliament has sent [a-ten member fact finding delegation] to Ethiopia who came back with concrete evidences of right abuses. Several international human rights groups including [Amnesty] international, [HRW] and [EHAHRDP] have expressed their concerns on the law that limit the scope of the work of civil society and human rights defenders. The government of [United States] said, Draft Ethiopian NGO Law Would ‘Close Political Space.’
