Afar Revolutionary Democratic
Unity Front (ARDUF)
MCC Ref: 002/2011 –
The gallant Afar Revolutionary Democratic Unity Front (ARDUF)’s Special Force, Northern Division” operating in the Central and Northern Afar region, zone four and zone two of the State of Afar have carried out a well co-ordinated military attack on a TPLF led Ethiopian forces stationed in Teeru district of the State of Afar on February 23, 2010, when the enemy forces are at sleep, killing forty nine (49) and more than two dozen seriously injured. An Afar local man employed as an interpreter was also killed in the exchange of fire.

Our heroic fighters have also confiscated various military equipments and arms from the enemy. The TPLF-Ethiopian troops extremely shocked and badly angered by the attack of the ARDUF forces. The distressed and defeated TPLF troops have illegally and arbitrary arrested dozens of innocent Afar civilians for alleged support of ARDUF, and seven Afar civilians of the arrested have been killed at the Ab- Ala Police Station located in Ab-Ala District of zone two, and 29 houses were burned down deliberately by TPLF troops to “retaliate” on the civilians.

Given the above situation the ARDUF (UGUUGUMO) has declared its determination to continue its armed rightful struggle until we gratify the legitimate rights and aspiration of the Afar people to self-determination, including their right to determine freely and independently their local political status, to pursue their local economic, social and cultural development, and to have full and complete sovereignty over and their natural wealth and resources.
