Coca-Cola under fire for dropping Teddy Afro’s World Cup Anthem

By staff writer – 4 June 2014

safe_image(EMF) A large number of Diaspora community is urging East African nations to stop drinking Coca-Cola, in protest for Coca-Cola’s outrageous action to drop Teddy Afro’s World Cup Anthem.

Negative campaigning is on the rise as social media pages are flooded with a highly negative campaigns against Coca cola products following the leaked information by Mr. Misikir Mulugeta, Coca-Cola Brand Manager for Ethiopia, who downplayed the pop star Tewodros Kassahun.

The pop star has over 6 Facebook pages, with nearly a million fans and over 3000 Twitter followers.

Social media comments are generally supportive to the boycott campaign. One picture comment on Facebook read, “Zero Ethics!, Zero Justice!, Zero Health! … Don’t Drink Coca-Cola.”

The image is being shared by tens of thousands of fans.

coca-cola-boycotA significant number of Teddy Afro’s fans on twitter are also raising ethical and health issues related to Coca-Cola, arguing that the products are causing health and environmental damages.

“These campaigns and allegations would certainly affect Coca-Cola largely with its sales in the Horn of Africa, unless Coca-Cola reconsiders the decision”, says one of the fans who is moderating a Facebook page.

According to the information posted on Teddy Afro’s website, Mr. Misikir Mulugeta, Coca Cola Regional Manager made a dramatic twist and dared to question Teddy Afro’s reputations. Many are considering it as a politically motivated action. Mr. Misikir Mulugeta assumes the ‘Coca-Cola Brand Manager’ position by a recommendation from the ruling party.

Ethiopians had the privilege of supporting Coca-Cola’s decision for selecting Teddy Afro for the 2014 FIFA World Cup to be held in Brazil.

Teddy Afro is not only one of the best vocalist in Ethiopia, he is also becoming an emerging global star in the Horn of Africa. He sings for love and inspirations.

Teddy’s fans believe that Coca-Cola has made a big mistake by making a very wrong decision, which may result in severe consequences on its sales in potentially big market.

You better go and read on health risks of Coca-Cola from Google health. Read on adverse effects of Coca on health which doctors are discouraging cola drinks such as Lose of bone density, increased Diabetic risk(high blood sugar ),migrain headache precipitation, addiction and dependence….a lot are mentioned. I mean it not on the line of boycotting for its ugly and immoral deed of the company but feeling responsibility to my region(East Africans)health and generation. In developed countries, bottled cola drinks are labeled on their content and health risks but for Africa market, not yet. Why? Downplay not to drink Coca -Cola regarding your health to live long healthy.

There is no health in Coca-Cola beverages regarding human rights, the environment or your health! Coca-Cola remains under fire for producing unhealthy products that are fueling the obesity and diabetes epidemic throughout the world because of the high sugar and caloric content.

Coca-Cola has made a big mistake in collaborating with Woyanie and cancelling its contract with our beloved singer, Tedy Afro. I call upon every Ethiopian and friends of Ethiopian to boycott Coca-Cola’s products. I had a box of Coca-Cola at home but threw away since I heard the decisions of Coca-Cola and I will never and ever drink Coca-Cola again unless it reverses its decision.

It is not coca cola who did this .this is done by Tigre/Weyanes who hate teddy Afro and his strong united voice .weyane is killing Ethiopia music for the the last 23 years .the only singer we have now is teddy Afro who is the global star.they can not kill him because millions are behind him the only thing they can do to cancel his show back home where they control every thing and now to make their final effort to drop his show from this international stage where he can sing about love unity and raise our flag which they hate most.that is all.

You have never said a word about Coca Cola’s health and environmental impacts until it dropped Teddy Afro’s World Cup anthem. Did the health impact begin after that? How about this: if Coca Cola reconsiders its decision, will the product be healthy and environmentally friendly back again?

I DO NOT BLAME COCA COLA, I BLAME TEDDY AFRO, HE SHOULD SEPERATE HIS PERSONAL POLITICS FROM POLITICS.

What do you expect Coca Cola to do when Teddy Afro insulted Oromo communities while he was touring here in America couples of years ago, and hanging out with divisive nefetegna controversial individuals such as Tamagne Beyene ?
I personallty I do not like any human being losing out on opportunities, but coca cola is also a business thus got to keep out of controversial political figures.

BIG COMPANIES DO NOT LIKE CONTRAVERSIAL FIGURES.

Like many international big companies, Coka Kola company also known to avoid drag user athletes and drunkard controversial artists, specially when the artist is disapproved and hated by the majority (Oromos) in Teddy’s case. Teddy also is disapproved by MADD members, since he killed innocent poor man while driving drunk.
