Clean sweep for Ethiopia at marathon, half marathon

HOUSTON (KTRK) — It was wet and cold and storms threatened, but didn’t stop today’s Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon. In the end, it was another clean sweep for the Ethiopians.

Bazu Worku of Ethiopia was the overall men’s winner with an unofficial time of 2:10:17. The women’s winner was Merima Mohammad, also of Ethiopia, who crossed in 2:23:37.

Feyisa Lilesa of Ethiopia won the men’s half marathon with a time of 1:01:54. On the women’s side, it was Mamitu Daska of Ethiopia with a time of 1:09:53.

The top American finishers in the full marathon were Andrew Carlson of Minnesota with a time of 2:17:16 and Tera Moody of Colorado on the women’s side with a time of 2:39:10.

In the half, the top American finisher was Shadrack Biwott of Oregon with a time of 1:02:23 and the top American woman was Lisa Uhl of Iowa who completed the run in 1:13:26.
